My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Just returned from a weeks holiday at the D'Or hotel in Cala D'Or and if you are looking for a small, spotlessly clean hotel with cheerful, friendly staff then I can highly recommend the D'Or

The rooms are brightly decorated and simply furnished. They are not over large but there is plenty of storage space and very comfortable beds. The bathroom has a ¾ sized bath with excellent, powerful shower over it and there was always plenty of hot water. There is also lots of space for toiletries on the marble counter with inset sink. The rooms are kept sparkling clean by the friendly cleaner and towels are changed every day with bedding changed every other day. Each room also has a good sized furnished balcony or patio plus the safe in the wardrobe which costs 16 euros for a week. There is also air con for hire which we didn't need in October.

Breakfast was a buffet of a choice of cereals, fruit juices, ham, cheese, yoghurt and fresh fruit. The English breakfast is cooked to order and you can make as much toast as you want with jam and marmalade provided. The coffee is also freshly made for you. We had our breakfast in the bar or outside in the pool area as the hotel was half empty so I can't comment on the breakfast room as it was closed up.

The pool and sunbathing area is also kept very clean with well trimmed hedges and greenery everywhere. There were plenty of sun beds provided free of charge with deep padded mattresses making them comfortable to spend the day on. Something you don't get in many four star hotels.

The staff are friendly, helpful and cheerful and, apart from the cleaner, they are English speaking. Anything you want from a room change to info about the buses they are happy to help. If you are looking for a change from the huge hotel complexes that dominate most of Majorca's resorts then I would book the D'Or. One word of warning though is to request a room away from the Square which is a small complex of open air bars in a side street right by the hotel. The music is very loud and goes on until 4am, even if they are empty!!!

The resort of Cala D'Or is a modern purpose built area covering 3 or 4 coves which divide it into 3 distinct areas each with their own restaurants and shops. Cala D'Or itself is the largest and most central area with a large pedestrianised area of shops, bars and restaurants. It is quite steep and hilly with steps down to the coves so not very access friendly but the commercial centre is fairly flat and accessable.

The resort in October was fairly quiet with a clientele of mostly older adults and is very popular with Germans. We didnt travel with children but nor see very much to keep them entertained outside the big all inclusive hotels which probably provide facilities for them. It is not a resort that will appeal to the young clubbing crowd either as the only bars that seemed to stay open after midnight were the ones in the Square that I mentioned above. Most of the cafe style bars were winding down around 11ish because the reort wasnt at all busy.

We tried several restaurants and didnt have a bad meal although I wouldnt go to the C'an Trompe again as our main course arrived half way through our starter which was whipped away from us and placed at the side of the table. The food was good but we were in and out in half an hour. I can recommend the Chinese restaurant The Shangrala, so good we went back twice, and the Regina for good grills and friendly service. The Plaza Cafe was excellent for lunches and an evening drink and they also did the best Sangria.

I can recommend getting the local bus to Felanitx??? for the Sunday market and the road train to Porto Petro and Cala Mondrago.

Cala D'Or is a quiet resort in October with enough people about to give it a buzz and keep all the facilities open with only one or two restaurants/bars closing early for the Winter. A great destination if you are looking for a quiet holiday in the sun to set you up for the long winter.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Just returned from an 11 night holiday at hotel d'or, in cala d'or, this hotel is in the small and friendly brochure and thats exactly what it is, it has everything you need from a hotel. It has 4 blocks of rooms all centered around the pool on 2 levels, we had room 402 with a terrace, which was fine although you could here the spanish singers from the fiesta in the square, which is right outside the hotel down the side street, but it was fine it all added to the atmosphere.

The rooms we quite big for a small & friendly with lots of storage space and a big bathroom.they have the best air con ever and it stays on when you are out of the room. You can hire a fridge ect at reception and it is delivered to your room ours was 65euros for 10 days but we really couldn't do without it so take a bit extra to get one, you can also hire baby eqt from him and lots more.

The breakfast was very good between 8 - 10 am , bacon sausage hash browns, mushrooms,  eggs fried scrambled or boiled, fruit, cerial, toast ,do-nuts, coissants biscuits cakes, juice tea coffee, excellent.
The maids were very friendly and kept the rooms very clean, they changed the towels 6 days a week.
The hotel has a very good snack bar open from 10am to 12 am, there is also a tv room with a pool table.
You do have to get a sunbed by 10 am or you've no chance, also the 3 coves(beaches ) get very crowded in august.

The resort is great at night, all the restaurants have pavement tables with candles on the tables, there are twinkling lights in the trees, spanish music, spanish waiters, gorgeous atmosphere if you like going for romantic meals. But dont be fooled by how empty it is in the day , all the restaurants are full at night , no trouble getting a table though.
if you are into clubbing there are a couple on the square open till about 6 am, also lots of music bars, cocktail bars, lots of steak houses too, our favourites were don leone, also liked, cheers, the upstairs bar, ferkin bar.

we also had the fiesta in the square for 5 days , it was excellent, lots of market stalls , live bands, dancing, and about 5 bouncy castles, fair rides and trampolines for the kids. ( dont know how often this comes to cala d'or though. ) it finished with the best firework display i've ever seen.

The marina is left out of the hotel then right, or you can take the mini train for 3 euros return.
This resort is definitely for families and couples that want somewhere not dead but not a "clubbers " resort, no stag do's no gangs, it has a spanish feel to it not english , no pr's dragging you in (bliss) .

We didn't get a welcome meeting and the rep only visits 3 times a week for about an hour , but we didn't miss him !
all in all a brilliant holiday/resort/hotel will definitely be returning soon.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Booked the D'or Hotel the day before we left Ireland.  Didnt get to see any reviews before so did not know what to expect.

We arrived at the hotel at 12 midnight and the first thing we noticed when we got to our room was the smell of must.  It had the feel of a room which hadnt bee aired in a while.  This smell disappeared after a day or so.  It was to the side of the complex, and was in need of renovation.  Other rooms seemed to be more modern, so maybe they are planning to imporve the others.  Air conditioning which was great, as the weather was scorching.  Very close to restaurants, beach (Cala D'or) but pool very small.  Would suit children for this reason as they wouldnt have room to play about without splashing anyone else using the pool at the time.  Breakfast was fine.  They could do with renovating this area also as it was a bit dark and had not windows.

Rooms cleaned each day with fresh towels.  Cleaner very friendly.  Phone in lobbly very reasonable.  Nice resort but if you like nice beaches not really the place to go.  Beaches packed each day, with every available space taken up.  Restaurant service very poor overall. All touting for business but didnt have the service to back it up.  One particular restaurant we had to request our drinks about 3 times before they eventually arrived, well most of them did.

Wouldnt be rushing back but had a relaxing break all the same.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Returned yesterday from a thoroughly enjoyable week at the Hotel D'Or in Cala D'Or, Mallorca.

I found the hotel in the Thompson Small & Friendly brochure and it appealed to us. It's not really geared for children as there's nothing for them to do. This suited us down to the ground as we wanted a quiet break away with no screeching kids dive bombing into the pool etc.

I didn't book through Thompson as I found I could save about £100 per person by booking a flight with Easy Jet from Stansted and then contacting the hotel to book directly. The hotel booking was all made by e-mail, I didn't even have to phone them. A taxi transfer from the airport cost us 55 euros, the transfer back cost the same, Juan the manager arranged this for us on our day of departure.

I would describe the hotel as basic but comfortable. No phones or TVs in the rooms, but who needs them when you're on holiday in the sunshine?! It is generally very clean and tidy. The breakfast is more than acceptable, fried eggs, bacon, sausage and occasionally hash browns and tomatoes. Also provided are meats and cheeses, fresh fruit, cakes, donuts and the best croissants and coffee I have ever tasted.

The swimming pool is not huge but just what you need to cool down in after some intensive sunbathing. They could perhaps do with providing a few more sunbeds as these were pretty much 'reserved' (ie, someone had thrown a towel on and that's it - the sunbed is their property for the day, even if they leave the hotel!!) by about 10am.

The hotel bar and communal area is very relaxed and pleasant. Snacks such as cheeseburgers, hotdogs, baguettes and fries are provided at reasonable prices. They also have a 'happy hour' between 4pm and 5pm where any drink (from soft drinks to jugs of sangria)is buy one get one free. Therefore 2 litres of Sangria for about 7 euros! Can't go wrong. They also have Sky TV so we didn't have to miss England winning the Ashes.

The staff at the hotel are excellent, especially Juan the manager who was exceptionally polite, friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.

Cala D'or itself is a lovely resort. We weren't really after the nightlife of Magaluf neither did we want it to be dead. Cala D'or was therefore perfect for us. There are music bars if you want them and a couple of clubs.

We spent most of our evenings sampling the many restuarants on offer. We tried a couple of places in the pedestrianised centre, including a dutch place (can't remember the name) where we had unlimited ribs and chips for 9.95 euroes. The other place we tried was some kind of mexican place where the food was rubbish. However, this was the only bad meal we had. As we aren't really fans of going abroad and eating nothing but English food the whole time, we avoided places like 'Cheers' and 'The Dumpling', although these seemed very popular with other holiday makers.

We had some fantastic meals by exploring the restaurants away from the centre of town and in the beautiful Marina. We found a very nice Itallian restaurant called Capriccio Italiano where we ate on two occasions. They are away from the centre of town so very peaceful. Their Calzone is wonderful. However, if you want an extra special dining experience, go to the Marina. The resturants are wonderful, quite formal but don't cost much more than the places in the town centre. The quality of food is excellent, as is the service. We would thoroughly recommend Acuarius and also Blanco Y Negro. There is a lovely atmosphere at the Marina's restaurants in the evening, if you're going to Cala D'or, you really must go there.

So to sum up, we would definitely recommend Cala D'or and we would also recommend the Hotel D'Or if you are not looking for a luxury hotel and you are happy with a simple, comfortable and clean base for your holiday. The resort in September was relatively busy - I'm not sure it would be as nice in months like July and August. The beaches are beautiful and the weather was scorching.

Mallorca surprised us - we had no idea how beautiful it is. If you go, hire a car and drive round the island, especially the mountain region - it is stunning.

And book with Easy Jet and get accomodation directly. It's very simple and straightforward and you'll save yourselves a fortune. The only thing you don't get is a rep and in my experience they're not really much use anyway!

We were not sure what to expect as we had not read any review's on the hotel but we were not in the least dissapointed.

The hotel is small, imaculately clean and the staff were so helpful and friendly. It is only a few yards from all the restaurants and bars but there is no noise, it is so peaceful. We made loads of friends (it is that kind of hotel, everyone gets to know each other) The only down side was that there were not enough sun beds,if you weren't up and about early enough you couldn't get one and you had to go to the beach.

We have already recommended this hotel to friends and we shall certainly return in the near future although we will book direct with the hotel as the taxi to and from the airport is not too expensive 54 euroes each way.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We were a bit concerned after booking this holiday to find no reviews anywhere on the internet but when we arrived we found our fears totally unfounded.

Being a childless couple we wanted relative peace and quiet and that is exactly what we got.  The hotel features in the small and friendly brochure and the brochure description is spot on.  The rooms are clean and the maid came in 6 days out of 7 but you are warned she has a day off, rooms are also quite basic but like that the safe is in the room.

The staff were superb throught our stay, nothing is too much trouble and any problems we has were sorted out within half hour.  Entertainment at the hotle is 1 night a week with the same band returning who like the beatles!
The hotel is in an ideal location just out of the centre but about 2 minute walk, noise doesn't carry, the only noise we had was the traffic on the road outside, but you get that everywhere.

Breakfast was good too, alot of choice with a couple of changes throughout the week, but always hot and being refreshed by the staff.

Shop is directly opposite the hotel, anything you want to hire comes from an outside company (fridge ?45 week!) this is very expensive.  Public transport is few and far between, tour buses are laid on but only on market days or to go to see the caves in POrto Cristo, get to Palma on the local bus ?25 return - bargain!

We found many excellent restaurants during our stay, but can recommend Basil at The Dumpling (sangria is potent) and Mark's bar, both had excellent service, good portions and very good value for money.

We are looking to return next year and would definately come back here.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We arrived in Palma 01.05.05 and had prebooked a taxi to the Hotel D'Or which is a good job because it seemed to be a little difficult to find as it is situated on the outskirts of Cala D'Or.

Upon our arrival we were greeted by the manager Juan and were told we were the first guests of the season. It gave us a good chance to explore the hotel facilities as there was no one else there for the first 3 days. The staff there are very friendly and all speak excellent english. Trips can be arranged at the reception and pick up is usally from the hotel or very nearby.

The hotel itself is 2 storey and quite small and all rooms center around the swimming pool. There are some rooms which are on the second floor but are at the side of the hotel. I would not recommend these if you want a qiute nights sleep as there are a couple of loud late bars in the next street that play music till well into the early hours. The rooms themselves are clean and functional but very basic. there is no mini bar or TV but there is a TV room and pool table that is availible 24hrs a day with a large wide screen TV. The breakfast is english / continental but the english breakfast consists of eggs, bacon and beans and there is toast availible. It's not the most luxurious hotel but the warmth and friendliness of the staff make up for this and we were treated exceptionally well. The maid came in every day without fail to make the beds.We had an extra camp bed in the room as there were myself and both my daughters ( guess who ended up with the camp bed!)This wasn't particularly comfortable and probably not recommended if you have a bad back. There is also no telephone in the rooms but there are several phone boxes which take phonecards quite close.

The Hotel features both on Expedia and Thompsons and it states that it is 500 meters from the beach. This is not the case and I think the reviewers have mistaken this hotel for the Hotel Cala D'Or which is a completely different hotel and IS about 500 mtrs away from the beach. To get to the beach is about a 10 minute walk but is fairly straightforward.

There are several resuarants and bars located very close to the hotel and it is also on 2 minutes from the main shopping precinct. As far as restaurants go I would certanly recommend The Diner Which can be found about 1/4 mile away (directions can be found along with a very useful map in the mini magazine that is freely availible in shops, bars etc) Jackie and Andrew will give you a very warm welcome and specialise in traditional english food. Their sunday dinners come highly recommended and they also serve Tetleys Tea!!!.They are very close to a bar called The Hollywood. This is the place to go to catch up on any english sport/soaps etc that you are pining for. The is a very good Indian restaurant opposite the hotel called India but be warned it is a little on the expensive side but meals are excellent. A cheaper alternative the the restaurant Marfil where the choice is wide and prices very reasonable.

This hotel has just come off the Thompson only list and that is why there have been no other reviews yet but it is a very good hotel and I would definitly recommend it to others but be warned it is a very basic hotel and might not suit everybodys taste. It is prehaps more suited for older people as apart from the pool and the pool talble the is little to keep the kids interested. As we got there as the start of the season I am unable to say what the entertainment is like in the bar of an evening as there wazs noneavailible at the time and we had to go out every evening to find our own amusement. \this was easy as the hotel is with walking distance of some great bars. Well worth a look at is Dougans (excellent cocktails and later on if your're lucky the bar staff try their hand at fire eating and juggling lit bottles) and Yates is great for the younger people. There is always something going on be it a barbeque or kareoke nearby.

All in all a thumbs up!

Just Returned from a beautiful holiday in Cala Dor. weather has been superb with tempetature well into the 90s.

First the Es Bolero Apartments which is situated within Cala Egos which is only 5 minutes by taxi into the centre of Cala Dor and costs 5 euros. The aparments are within the Marthas complex which is big and full of Dutch and Germans, and they are well catered for. They do have several pools, and we choose to stay at the smaller one which was quiet and more relaxed. The complex offers all the facilities but we found it too big. The apartment was basic with no toaster, grill which you could hire. The television had one channel, but you coould hire a remote which i found a bit cheeky. We had no change of bed linen for 10 days.

Overall if you want a basic apartment and use as a base then fine, otherwise look elsewhere.

Cala Dor is beautiful with lots of beaches excellent variety of resturants and shops and the marina is worth a visit.
We will be going back to Cala Dor next year but to another complex. Prices are about the same as here in terms of beer and food, but the lifestyle is wll worth the price.

Get one thing clear about this complex, the UK tour operators are well down the pecking order when it comes to getting the prime apartment blocks. This is the 3rd time i have been here and on every occasion i have had to fight for a room in a decent block. When you complain to the rep she produces a photo copy of the brochure page that outlines that you may be put in a block across the road. 95% of UK travellers are put over the road. When you get there, wait outside the the best blocks and you will find they are swedish. This is by design. It means you will have a lot of walking to the beach and the complex entertainment. Other than that it is a good complex.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Hotel - Unfortunately, we were unlucky enough to be allocated the annexe to the Main Esmeralda Garden hotel block - they are a nightmare.  They are much smaller, noisy and located above a row of shops.

We asked the Reps if we could change to the main hotel block, but they said there was nothing they could do.  Basically, they were completely useless and a complete waste of time.

Thankfully, after a few miserable days, the directly employed hotel staff managed to relocate us to the main block with everyone else.

Be aware, unless you specific exactly which part of the cala / azul / park / esmeralda / garden, etc, etc, complex, you want to stay in, it will be down to luck whether you get a good location.  Tour Operators should get their act together and clarify this is their brochures - it's very misleading.

Also, most of the hotels in the complex are actually 3 star, not 4 star as advertised in all the brochures.  The main blocks, are clean, spacious and all the directly employed hotel staff are helpful and polite.

Resort - We didn't think the resort was geared up to adequately cater for families with toddlers (Menorca is much better), although the resort is brilliant for families with kids aged 7 plus.  If you do have a toddler, be prepared to take out a 2nd mortgage on the little rides - they cost 1 euro a time and are splattered everywhere!!

Food - There are lots of good quality restaurants to choose from in town - you can't go wrong.  If you want excellent food, go to the marina.

Entertainment - The only decent place with evening entertainment in Cala D'or is 'Tropical Gardens'.  Toddlers are also catered for as there is a mini disco.  Staff were great.  Drinks were slightly more expensive than elsewhere, but worth it.  Hotel organised shows were ok, but poor in comparison to Tropical Gardens.

Beaches - Nice, but very small.  You need to rise early to get a good spot during high season.

We stayed at these apartments in September 05.  It was lovely....the first thing my daughter said to me was "Mum....its clean!!" Which is was.  Because we went in school term, it was empty.  Our 4 children were the only ones in the pool, which they loved.  Had no problems getting sunbeds, could lay where we wanted to.  There were a few older german couples there, who probably thought they was going to have a nice peaceful time, but how wrong were they when we got there!  The kids werent too nosey, just had a lot of inflatables in the pool.

The area around the apartments is fantastic for children, what with the go-karts and the bouncy castle which was a Bart Simpson head!  Even the adults went on the go-karts....and only ?1 a go, which isnt that bad.  Lots of resturants and bars aswell and also the Karaoke bar just across from the apartments, which did go off at midnight, sometime earlier if the bar wasnt busy. We sometimes went to sleep singing the songs which some people were murdering!

Only went to the beach once, but it rained on us!!!  Although im not a beach person...we did enjoy it and it was busy, not many sunbeds though, so sat on the sand but it was easier being near the sea with the kids running in and out all the time.

Would most definitly go back there again and I know for a fact the kids loved it!

Took our holiday at the Esmerelda Gardens mid August, arrived there and had to wait 3 hours before our room was ready: the room we were allocated was the best in the complex, overlooking the beach and the pool.  Stunning.

We stayed half board and had no complaints whatsoever about the food, only downsied was that you weren't allocated the same table each meal time and at certain busier times when you went down for youer evening meal you were running round looking for a table for your family.

The entertainment in the complex was well organised and catered for the children also.

The staff in the complex were helpful and the maids were lovely.

At the poolside there were signs which said no reserving sunbeds with towels but on-one took any notice and by 7.30 am half the beds were taken up with towels (people were going to the pool early morning, placing their towels on beds and sitting on them for a couple of minutes trying to justify putting them down so early, and then going off for breakfast and returning to their sunbeds at about 11 am!)

After reading other reviews we made sure we requested an apartment in the 'MAIN BLOCK' at the Esmeralda Gardens. When booking we were given a choice between -'main block' or 'Annexe'. Low and behold we were put into the 'DREADED ANNEXE'Well, previous reviews were absolutely right! The Annexe apartments were VERY small - on top of shops - opposite a very noisy Kareoke bar.Dreadful!

We went straight to the receptionist complained, and asked to be moved into the main block. We were told we could move into the main block 12o'clock the next day. When we spoke to the 'Portland Direct'  rep about our complaint - she just didn't want to know!

Anyway, when we moved we could not believe how much bigger and better the apartments were, and overlooking the pool. From then on we had a fantastic holiday!

We went Half-board basis - the food was fantastic! So much to choose from! 5* QUALITY!We would recommend this resort to anyone. BUT PLEASE BEWARE! DON'T BE FOBBED OFF WITH AN APARTMENT IN THE 'ANNEXE' BLOCK, BECAUSE YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED.
Good Luck!

Arrived at Esmeralda Gardens only to be shipped out to another apartment block for one night as it was overbooked. This happened to lots of people ( 15 rooms booked on day we arrived with only 3 available !! ) Was told that each person would receive 150 Euros as compensation and in fairness to Portland they were true to their word and paid in cash two days later.(although other tour operators we understand were not so generous !!)

Once into Esmeralda Garden apartments we found clean but fairly basic apartments (not really 4* as Portland graded them) but never the less ok. Did also have trouble as we were to be put in the 'Annexe ' which we did not book (reps didnt realise that when booking thru Portland you had the choice between main block and annexe. but after heated argument we finally managed to get rooms in main block. Annexe rooms are across street overlooking karaoke bar and despite what you may be told are not as good as in main block.

One of the reasons we chose these apartments was because they were advertised as air conditioned, be warned they are but only between 8am and 10am then from 6pm til 8pm. Aparrently because it is so expensive to run the manager decided these times. so was very hot at night when you really needed it!! so make sure you demand at least one fan in your room if available !

Pool area was a little on the small side but big enough although you need to get out early to get sunbeds. Snack bar was fine for drinks but food was in a word 'crap' and expensive.

Immediate area around the complex was ok with lots of english run bars and restaurants as well as arcades and childrens rides with 2 very good supermarkets stocking a very good range, but if you want a little more upmarket you need to head towards the main centre where you will find a good choice of reataurants and bars or the marina area also with several very good restaurants, and to be honest these were no dearer to eat at although the quality of food and service was better.

Overall if you have no trouble getting room in main block preferabally overlooking pool with a fan in you should have no complaints about complex or resort itself if you are prepared to walk for 15 to 20 minutes.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

A very nice and clean apartment block, our room overlooked a cafe and Kareoke bar, so plently of live music until 12.00 at night. You could sit in your hotel balcony and enjoy all the street life. Very good!!!
The bedroom was nice with air con and as it was at the back of the apartment you could easily go to sleep without hearinbg the street noise.
Very clean too.

Only problem beware the Frigo branded Ice Cream/Hot food bar at the Hotel pool.
I arrived on the Sunday night at 22.00 or so and had sdome beans that we had brought with us.
About lunch time on the first day, I was hungry and asked the vendor at the hotel pool for a hot dog. He looked about in an old looking fridge and told me there were no hot dogs but he could do me a cheese burger. OK i said. I was a little taken aback when he just WARMED  this in a sandwich grille. No hot plate here. I am an Environmental Health Officer and should know better.
That evening more beans and about 4 tins of lager.
I woke up the next morning feeling sick and with diarrhoea, blamed it on the beer but was not the case.
As the week wne t on a got sicker and sicker, cold sweats, running diarrhoea the lot. Lost a stone in weight. On coming home and arriving at my home airport I felt very unwell. Ender up in hospital for a week with a ling infection. Typing this one dat after getting discharged.

Was a little bit worried after reading some of the reviews but needn't have been. Was allocated an apartment in the esmerelda park and given one in N block overlooking the beach and sea and right next to the pool, if we had been able to pick it ourselves we couldnt have done better. Pool got busy but there was plenty of sunbeds for everyone. Apartment was clean and big enough (four adults). Two bed setees in the lounge were comftable enough. First time in cala dor and was really impressed. Lots of nice restaurants and quite reasonable.

Would recomend and go again.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We have been back about one month now and the Esmeralda Park is very nice and the Animacion Staff were truly excellent. The complex is great for all ages with plenty of day activities and night time entertainment.

A word of caution if you plan to go between July - August if you get a late flight to arrive at the resort after 16:00 you have a high probability of being double-booked. This happens to too many people for it to be an accidental occurrence. It is possibly by design to achieve 100% utilisation of the rooms. So get an early flight!
We went with First Choice and were offered 150 Euros compo to spend in the Esmeralda Park only, so it really cost the Hotel about 25 euros (Thompson Guests were offered 160 pounds) and we ended up in the Corfu Marina "All Inclusive" for two nights which was actually very nice, but not what we were expecting then there was all the hassle of unpacking and packing up and so on.

The resort is larger than we expected, with plenty of good restaurants, but we only had four days of our holiday due to the double-booking fiasco. The rest of the Holiday was very good and we would go back to the resort again and back to the Esmeralda Park but not in July/August unless we could get an early flight.

This was our third visit to these apartments and had previously booked a package deal however we decided for this holiday to book direct via Inturotel on the Internet. This was so easy we paid a deposit of about £75.00 for a week's stay in mid May the rest of the cost of the apartment we paid when we arrived.Which was approx £350.00.This we booked with a flight withn Excel airways saved us about £350.00 on a package deal. The Reception was surprised that we wanted to pay when we arrived as you can pay either during or at the end of your holiday.

As we had been before we asked for block H as this is near to the car park ,supermarket and smaller less busy pool. There are not many rooms with pool/sea view you have to be very lucky to get one of these rooms, some have side sea views, views of Cala Azul complex. As we have two small children block H is ideal as it's not too far from the car park to the apartment after a beach visit.
We cannot fault the cleanliness of these apartments as from dawn till dusk staff worked on the gardens, pool etc.Nightime and day time entertainment is very good however we love the centre of Cala D'or so much that we decided not to stick around.

Cala D'or centre has what everyone wants, family english bars/restaurants,or foreign cuisine eg Spanish,Italian, tex mex etc. There is also the Marina which is approx 10 mins walk from the centre of Cala D'or but is well worth a visit.Lots of very nice restaurant's however a little more pricey.
Good places to visit are Western park water Park).

All in all a lovely family resort love it so much wwe will be going back.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

My family and I have just returned from a week at the Esmerelda Park complex in Cala D'Or.

Good, clean accomodation but could perhaps be a little more spacious. Our 2 children shared one of the sofa beds in what is the living/dining area which meant one of the sofa beds had bedding on pretty much all the time. The wardrobe space could be greater too as distinct lack of cupboard/ drawer space.
Kitchen area clean and fridge clean.

Pool area very clean and very safe for toddlers.

Staff friendly and helpful.

Ate once in the evening at the hotel. Buffet style with a large variety of things to eat with children eating free.

We went in the October half term and to be honest, I would not like to go in high season as I suspect the complex gets extremely busy and it is probably difficult to get a space by the pool.

Very, very popular with Germans which is reflected in fact that the entertainment in the evenings was initially in German and then in English. That the resort has so many Germans is no bad thing as it does make for a very well organised complex.

We went on an excursion to Felanitx which included the San Salvador monastery. Market at Felanitx full of tat but the monastery well worth visiting.

Bus to Palma goes from the end of the road and is 25 euro return for 2 adults - far cheaper than any planned excursion.

Supermarkets are pricey but nearest hypermarket some way away.

The main road near the complex is very much geared up to tourist market and features a lot of, to be honest, utter rubbish. Restaurants nearby are very much pizza/burger etc as opposed to traditional spanish food.

Overall, I would recommend this complex to families looking for a break during the half term holidays. Weather excellent save for end of our holiday.

I have just returned from my 5th Holiday at the Esmeralda Park. The complex is 1st class and the staff are efficient, friendly and continue to maintain the high standards enjoyed on my first holiday. The complex is the cleanest I have experienced and the surroundings are the best you could wish for.

Places to eat:
El Patio - try the Fillet steak, it's better than most restaurants I have experienced in the UK.
Polinesian Bar - The prices are excellent, and the service is exceptional. I have not had a bad meal there in 5 years.
Arches - A very good Sunday Roast.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Cala D'Or is a beautiful,'low rise' resort with lovely beaches in little coves, ideal for families with children and couples although not much for the young 'Club' scene. The Es Ravells apartments are in an excellent location, over looking beautiful gardens, free form pool and only minutes from the sea and resort 'centre'. (Near the Hotel Sol D'Or) Our 1 brm apartment was on the top floor with a big sunny balcony and very clean and adequately equipped for our family of 3. (Apartments in 3 separate but adjacent buildings- Block 5 probably quietest, then 6 and 7)

During our stay in 1st week of June, the pool and sunbathing area was wonderfully quiet during the day even 'tho it's open to non-residents (pool, bar & entertainments are called 'Tropical Gardens') . All staff were very friendly and efficient. Good value snacks and kids meals by the pool in the 'Tropical Gardens'. Free kids activities every day and evening. Expect noise from the musical entertainment until midnight but we found it good fun and not unpleasant or painful!!

Eating out: Restaurant 'Different' in pedestrian bit very nice, Dutch/Asian restaurant next to 'The Dumpling Inn' (sorry can't remember name)also very nice for something spicy - Thai,Indian,Chinese/Dutch-Indonesian dishes (meat very good). Very high quality Italian/Mediterranean food in 'Mamma Mia' restuarant -resort centre (next to a big 'Ribs/Steakhouse' place one side and bakery the other)- lovely pasta sauces, the grilled sea bass with garlic and the calves liver especially good and will do kids size pizza if asked. The Mallorquin restaurant diagonally opposite the Mamma Mia is also very fine cuisine and a lovely elegant restaurant serving regional specialities and excellent, family friendly service.

We were'nt sure what to expect as we had never been before, but were suprised that the resort was so nice. The beach was only 5 mins walk away & was very clean, but a little small which meant it was very busy on hot days. the town its self was only about 5 to 10 mins walk away from Es ravell and we couldn't believe how many restaurants there were in the centre, although the touts trying to get you into their restaurants were anoying, but they were ok if you said no thanks. The amount of bars was dissapointing, no where near as many as I would have thought and none as far as i could see had any kind of childrens entertainment apart from Tropical Gardens which was on our door step.

The kids entertainers at TG were great ( Gareth & Ellie )with kids games & clubs during the day, also quizzes & water polo for the adults, and then adult games at night. the tribute bands were great as well, Abba, 4 Tops, Temptations, Madonna & Blues Brothers.

A great holiday was had by all, and judging by the size of some of the other apartments we passed walking around, I'm glad we chose Es Ravell as a lot of the others didn't have a pool.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

The apartments Es Ravell Do'r are a nice basic place to stay. We had a studio in block 6 which was quite small, but there was room in the cupboard to put away all our things and it was an o.k size for two people who were just using it as a base. Only thing I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned is that there isn't any beds, only sofas which you put sheets on?? They were comfortable enough though for our two week stay. The air conditioning was great and our room was always clean with fresh towels when needed.

The pool looks alright, I never went in it but I did sunbathe at the pool a few days and had no problem getting loungers at all different times. The entertainers often kept the kids that were by the pool amused with games etc which were popular. At night when we were getting ready you could hear all the music from the kids disco and entertainment acts. I never watched any of them, but they seemed to be very popular. The music is very loud and in our apartment we could hear everything. It wasn't bad though as for most of the night we were out, but you still heard the songs mentioned previously "Star Trekking" and "Mimic Man", there was also a Spanish song about Chihuahua dogs played a lot.

The resort is lovely, I was surprised at how big it was with all the different areas. We went out for dinner every night we were there, to different places and I don't think we had a bad meal once. There is a few cafes (as opposed to obvious reastaurants) in the pedestrianised centre which do really large ice-cream sundaes of every type which I often had after dinner somewhere else. It isn't a cheap resort, but it is worth it for the atmosphere. The beaches are great, quite picturesque and the marina is well worth a visit both during the day and at night.

It was my first time in Majorca and we had hired a car. We went to Soller and  Port De Soller is a good place to admire the views and enjoy another beach too. Palma is well worth a visit, I went twice and the shopping is great. Mango, Zara and lots of other Spanish shops we don't have in the UK. The Cathedral is stunning and the marina is worth a drive past with all the yachts.

If you are off to Cala D'or have fun!
I would definately go back again.

The es ravel dor are very basic apartements with absolutely nothing inside that warants them being sold as self catering. You can hire every you might need i.e. toasters, kettles from reception at a cost to you.Remember it is self catering so shouldnt these be included in the price.

We stayed in block 4 which is a bit out of the complex and  you have to walk past the bins and rubish to the pool or take a short cut down a little path that is filled with cat muck and where to our suprise one day they entertainers were having a shooting competion with an air rifle (watch your heads).the swimming pool was also very dirty (check the tiles on the side).

The evening entertainment however is excellent and the air con in the rooms is fantastic.

The resort centre is excellent for eating but dont go to any of the restaurants with the touts out side them they are awful.cala dor is excellent and you will not be stuck for things to do you do not need to cook in your apartement (thank god) because the choice is so vast calagran beach is the best but can get very buisy so get there early. Dont let this report put you off you will have a good holiday.

We have just returned from a weeks holiday in Cala D'or and cannot find anything to complain about.  Was a little worried after reading some reviews on this site, but our fears were soon put to rest.

We love the resort of Cala D'or and this is our third time back we have not stayed in these apartments before and even though they was on the small side who cares when you are on holiday, we only slept and showered there.

The entertainment in the Tropical Gardens were fantastic with different bands playing every night, the entertainers (Gareth and Elle) were wonderful with the children and my little one looked forward to going to the mini disco every night.

OK the prices for drinks are a little steep but that happens anywhere.  Weather was fantastic for May and we had a wonderful time.

We would definatley return to these apartments without question.

Was a bit worried about resort after reading other comments but all was good.

Tropical Gardens is good for entertainment and the shows are very funny.

Drinks are expensive although i think they may have gone up as we went out of season and the resort was not jam packed.

Dario and the bar staff where great fun and offered a great service.

They joined in with the dancing at the end of each night after the shows which was a good laugh.

Hollywood bar was excellent and ended up there most nights as Tropical Gardens closed at 12.

Eddie the looky looky man was fab and was treated like royalty in hollywood bar, he gives some great deals so just keep bartering with him!!

The best place to eat was Cheers, the portion sizes are massive and the food very very tasty, even our very fussy mancunian friend we met whilst on holiday thought it was great.

Good holiday all round, shame about the weather as it rained for 5 days but the staff all kept us entertained.

We have just returnet home from Cala Dor today.  It was a really good holiday.  We stayed in the Es Ravell D Or apartments.  We had a apartment with a view of the pool/entertainment area.  This suited us fine.
Tropical gardens were great both during the day and in the evening.  'Shaggy' the children/adult entertainer was a good laugh and very good with the kids.  Lots to do both throught the day and during the evening.  Shows like 'the four tops' and 'grease' were really good.

There were lots of good places to eat in the centre of Cala D or, its just making up your mind which ones to choose from.  Casablanca was very good.In fact most of the places to eat were good!Reasonable prices too.
The weather was mixed throughout the week but this has to be expected since we went in oct.  Still came back with a good tan though!

Overall we both agree we would come back to CalaD Or again and would definatly stay in the Es Ravell Dor

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We are writing this only 24 hours after returning from the Es Ravells Dor.

After reading all the other reviews we were very worried about what sort of apartments we had booked. People said it was noisy un-clean too small etc. We arrived on 13th September 2005 outside a white washed apartment block which to us looked beautiful. We went to reception for our key and were greated by a Welsh receptionist named Gaye. She was so friendly and the reception area was clean and tidy with books information sheets post cards etc. When we booked we had asked for a high floor and pool view, when we got our room key we were told it was the very bottom floor. We both panicked as we wanted a nice view.

As we went into the room it was a nice size, small kitchenette dining table two sofa beds a lovely sized bathroom very clean and plenty of wardrobe space for the both of us. As went to the patio doors we saw a very large terrace area with table and chairs and to our suprise the view was fantasic we could see the pool and all of tropical gardens (a bar in front of our hotel. We were very pleased.

The pool area was beautiful and sunbeds were never hard to get hold of no matter what time of the day you went down to the pool. Tropical gardens was a little on the expensive side e5.50 for 2 small beers. We didn't go down after that instead we watched all the shows from our terrace and had pizza and a few beers.

The shows were fantastic every night at 10. There was Robbie William, Madonna, 4 - tops, Renaissance, The Greese Show (brilliant)etc. At the end of the Toni and Dario did star treking the spanish way (hillarious) and the mimi man ( good to join in with). Overall the holiday was so fantastic we enjoyed it so much. On other review they said that block 6 was the loudest we din't find the noise a problem. We shut the patio doors and got to sleep easily.

Cala Dor itself is absolutly beautiful there are plenty of resteraunts and bars all for resonabile prices. We really enjoyed a litte bar called Toby Jug the meals were lovely and really cheap the owner was so friendly and remebered us when we went again. Just one thing not to have at Toby Jug is the sunday dinner, it was horrible just leave it up to us English to make Sunday Dinners because the spannish aren't very good. Another bar is Cheers meals were beautiful there too. P.Chaves do a beautiful breakfast for only e4.50, the plate was the size of a large frying pan.

The Cala Gran beach was beutiful it wasn't crowded and there was always a space, there were also little cars up each side where you could have dinner or a drink. The was clear and you coul swim out for miles. Also you can get on a glass bottom boat from here called the Starfish it costs e16 for a 2 hour trip lovely trip all the way to porto colom and back calling in at all the small coves. Overall the holiday was famtastic but we made it even better by going to

The Pirates Adventure on the last night 19 September 2005. This is not to be missed absolutly fantastic we cannot not even try to describe it but all we can say it do not miss out. It was quite expensive at e57 but this was with meals included and free drinks all night. We paid e12 extra to get quarted deck seats wgich were the best seats in the house and we also got a free bottle of champagne between us.

Cala Dor and the apartments Es Ravell Dor make a fantastic holiday we didn't want to come back at all and wished we had gone for 2 weeks.

We went on holiday last summer to es ravells recently refurbished , apartements fantastic!!!!!!Pool area fantastic . Ok the drinks in evening go up in price but its the only guaranteed free evening shows from dusk till dawn. Our kids were entertained by the lovely kids entertainer during the day and they have a mini disco and parrot shows in the week, the guy entertainer is a bit of a fool and loves himself.

The bar staff were genuinly freindly!!!! And up for a laugh and football crazy also great wth kids . I felt at ease relaxed and safe there , one ploicy the tropical gardens has is no lucky lucky men there, guys who sell u rubbish etc which is great. We vebtured out althou we ate breakfast there evry day, fabulous breakfast great snacks and big steaks in the evening , kids menu good value and u can enjoy ur meal whilst they are at the mini disco !!!!!!!!!
In the town we can suggest places not to go!!!! Wet ur whistle ,  british bar more suited to magaluf than a family resort ,, the diner overpriced and we had a horrible experience there where we appeared to have walked in on a family row, we were told to go there but found out it had bin taken over recently, food bad, and bit grubby, cheers oh my god never go there if food comes out that quik after ordering it , roast chicken 2mins ,!!!!!!! It has already bin sat there was horrible.
Try grill world just near cheers lovely currys steaks ribs pancakes free internet fab!!!!
Or eat by the pool at tropical gardens the chef made r stay as memorable as the holiday itself, oli ask 4 him if u go there

I was a bit apprehensive about Es Ravell D'or when I booked it as some people hadn't said the best of comments about it but I was pleasantly surprised when I got there.  The apartment was quite big and it had a new bathroom and kitchen.  Not a lot you can do in the kitchen though as there is only 2 hobs to work with!  But who wants to cook on holiday anyway!

The pool is nice and the entertainment is good during the day.  Tropical gardens is very expensive though (a bottle of water is 3 times the price of one from the local shop).  In the evening you're looking at about 9 euros for 2 alocholic drinks!  The entertainment (tribute acts) are good and suppose that's why people pay the prices.

HOWEVER one thing I must say that disappointed me about tropical gardens was the entertainer.  He found it neccessary to flirt with all of the women infront of their boyfriends/husbands, during the day and evenings.  He did it with me quite often and I found it very embarrassing and to a point where I would try to avoid him when I could, especially if I was on my own.  If it were just that then I wouldn't of mentioned it on this website but that fact that when I was minding my own business walking to the pool toilet one afternoon he found it neccessary to grope my Bum when I was just wearing my bikini.  I was so angry that he felt he could do this to me and would've told my boyfriend who wouldn't of taken the news well so I decided to say nothing!  I didn't want it to ruin the holiday.  Apparantly he had written complaints previously about what he's like but he's just ignored them and says he's 'having a laugh!'  However I didn't find it ammusing!  So girls, do watch out!

I am writing this review approximately 24 hrs since i returned and i must say that neither of us wanted to come home. this is the second stay in these appartments and we think they are of very good standard. The studios are a good size in my opinion and they have just had brand new bathrooms and kitchenettes fitted and excellent effective air conditioning operates to how high or low you want it.Kitchen areas aren't really suitable for cooking big meals, but breakfasts and snacks can easily be prpeared with clean cutlery etc

During the day the resort of cala d'or has beuatiful beaches all in coves. cala gran is the most crowded however whereas the cala d'or beach is less cramped as it is in an area that if you don't go out exploring your're not very likely to find it as it is down some little streets.
plenty of restaurants and bars with most popular ones with holidaymakers being hollywoods bar, marfils- with the gorgeous jimmy (english waiter) serving you, and cheers and merivent!!!

tropical gardens is a scream!! down some steps from hotel it is really entertaining especially at night with shaggy (shane)the entertainer and laura the kids entertainer. dario and tony make the night really enjoyable, with tony dressing up in wigs and masks etc and with dario changing into different football shirts all night and wizzing beer matts like frizbies. Jose is lovely too, he offers a quick service and has a laugh with you. hes so sweet!!! and also joins in with star trekking and mimic man sometimes. jose the top waiter for fast relaible service with a smile + hes gorge!!. althought drinks are more expensive than anywhere else it is well worth a visiting as you are on you holsidays after all!!

however we did have to be out of the room for 11 in the morning and did not get picked up intil 1 in the morning. so i would recommend looking up a late check out option etc.

excellent resort, very good accommodation! and facilties.

ALl the waiters were fab dario, toni and all the rest we all made realy good friends with them they were so easy to get along with.  The two entertainers Shaggy n Laura were brilliant.  Laura was soo sweet and was absoltuly excellent with the kids, Shaggy just mixed with evryone and we had such a laugh with him evryone loved him.  We went with our parents and they thought he was a laugh aswel, he just got along withe everyone of every age! and even though he does flirt nearly evry other entertainer does and its jst harmless fun!! we absolutly loved him!  especially the 'balcony time' where he managed to tell the exact same joke evry night but we all stil luved it!

Although me and my friend didnt stay for the shows we heard they were brilliant!  if anyone is looking for clubs to go to we stayed at the mad cow most nights we loved everyone in there they played brilliant music, the funky monkey is good aswel bt we didnt realy enjoy it that much and sound republic is a nightclub which we went in only once as the drinks were very expensive.  The mad cow had offers on drinks every night which was brilliant and all the staff were very friendly.

The food in Cala Dor is also brilliant and there are alot of shops aswell.  There is something for everyone in Cala Dor.  I would defintly go back here everyone in the party thought it was brilliant and the staff there became more like friends!!! the Es Ravelle is defintly the best hotel ive ever stayed in and we never heard any noise at a night time as commented on in a few of the other reviews! when u come back from this holiday you will defintly miss evrything about it! especially the staff!!! we all do!

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We went to Cala D'Or on a late deal for four days in June 2005. We had a fantastic time. The Es Ravel D'Or Appartments were very clean and tidy and they supplied you with almost everything you needed.

We ate out all the time because Tropical Gardens is very expensive. The tropical gardens pool is great - really clean area, plenty of sunbeds and brollies throughout the day (you dont have to get up really early and put a towel down). The waiters are all really friendly. We were really lucky to have great weather every day, so we tended to stay around the pool or on the Cala Gran beach.

The shops are good - plenty of clothes shops to look round when it gets really hot in the afternoon.

The restaurants in the centre are great - we went to a gorgeous italian (the Venezia?), a great mix grill/american diner type place (huge portions) and also to a lovely chinese restaurant in the centre (the chinese near the appartments didnt look to good!).

There are some great bars - in particular Linekers where i spent my birthday night out (hi to christian the barman) and the Mad Cow Bar (hi to stuart and jose our other fave bar staff!).

We were disappointed that there werent any clubs open in June although most the bars are open until the early hours and they play great music.

The Es Ravel D'Or entertainment in the daytime was amusing - you cant help but laugh at some of shaggy's lame jokes! We thoroughly enjoyed listening to him sing whilst having drinks on the balcolny before we went out for the night. Karen's favourite was 'Amazed by You'.

Four days wasnt long enough. We would definately go back but it would have been better in July or August when the bars would be busier and the club open.

The apartments were a bit on small side if there were more of you but for the 2 of us ample. Been refurbished and included free air-coditioning which was great. The bar was a little expensive but great entertainment made up for it, and all music stopped at midnight which is good for families. will most definitly be going back.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Was a bit dubious about what we were going to get after reading some of the reviews.
Apartment spotless, cooking facilities basic, but who goes on holiday to cook??
We had air conditioning which is not what we expected as all other reviews complain they had to hire fans.
Shaggy and Laura were fantastic entertainers..the GREASE night is not to be missed.
Bar staff very friendly and even the chef brought us our beakfast out to table nearly every morning as after the first day he was curious to know who on earth had put an order in for "crunchy" toast as toast in Majorca bearly goes into the toaster for more than ten seconds!!
Plenty of sunbeds around the pool,  never had to get up early to put a towel down.

Entertainment each night was great, even the bar staff had their regular spot every night.
We were in block 6, which is the block that we had read was noisy and the worst block....RUBBISH.... we had a great pool view which meant we could sit on the balcony every night after the baby had gone to bed, close to balcony doors so she wasn't disturbed and dance away with the entertainment...
Pirates night is an absolute must,, quite expensive but worth every penny, just dont rely on a Thomas Cook rep to book you in though...ours took our money quick enough but failed to book a table for us!!

in all a great holiday,  go and see for yourselves...

I was a bit concerned after reading the reviews on Es Ravell d'or bot need not have been. The apartment was clean, and although basic, was comfortable. The hotplates were slow to heat up but did work efficiently so you could prepare a meal without too much trouble. The pool area is much as described by other reviewers.Tropical gardens is very expensive ,4.5 euro for a pint of John Smith's bitter! There are Room safes for hire at 14.5 euro Per week.

Entertainment is pretty good in the evening but there is plenty going on in the resort. If you want a brilliant night out go to the Carabel Bar in Cala Ferrera.Happy hour is 2 for one, i.e.2 pints and 2 gin and tonic for 6.2 euro! On the way to Cala Fererra you will pass a restaurant called the Marivent.  It Offers first class food and dink at very reasonable prices.Well worth a visit. Finally back to the entertainment. Shane is absolutely fantastic with the children. He keeps them occupied for an hour or two during tne day and a kids disco before the show starts.

We have been to the resort before and will definitely return.P.S. Don't change your travllers cheques in reception tney take 5% commission

What a terrific family holiday! Been back 2 weeks and booked again to go next year.

The apts were only small and basic but adequate as a base. The only downfall was no air conditioning which was definately needed. We were in block 6 nearest to the pool which was excellent for the kids to have some freedom. Tropical Garden made our holiday and yes the drinks were on the expensive side but with great entertainment and to be served by the gorgeous dario was well worth it.

The pool was great and sunbeds were always available and Ian and Evonne made great pool entertainment during the day and then kids were kept busy with colouring competitions etc. The best place we found to eat was Walshies just up the road from the supermarket very friendly staff and the food was delicious. Went to a restaurant called Supertramps which, whilst they served up lovely food, they were not impressed with us bringing children which made us feel very uncomfortable.

The kids loved Mallorcaland (just over the road from Walshies) which kept them entertained.  Hollywood bar was great for the kids to get out of the sun for a couple of hours to watch a video.

Well worth every penny.  Cant wait to return.....

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We visited Cala'D'Or before, though a different hotel.  We wouldn't go to this hotel again.

Asked for a quiet block but we were put in block 6 by the music (very loud) We were moved to block 4 in a few days. Grant - the rep was very helpful, and the receptionist were very good too. The brochure states that block 4 is quiet but you can still hear the music a lot and have to shut the patio doors.  Also it's not very scenic, the paths are very narrow and near lots of rubbish bins.  Behind block 4 were spanish flats, so once the music eventually stopped, you got moped's going past and a dog that barked all night, so we didn't get any sleep.

The room was basic, but didn't think we should have to hire a kettle, or fans, etc.
The hobs are very difficult to work, as they all show the wrong dials, so you have to wait half an hour for your kettle to boil. The electrics are very dodgy as they keep fusing so have to go to reception to get them sorted.  The receptionist were very helpful though.

The resort of Cala D'Or is lovely, with a good mix of shops and loads of restaurants, as we were self-catering we had loads of choice.
We especially liked Cheers and The Duke Of Devonshire.  Cheers do a really good breakfast, very good value, and their dinners are good too.
The Duke Of Devonshire was very good, they do a special dinner every day, and the staff there are really nice.
I would definately recommend these 2 places to eat.
We went to The Dumpling and had to wait ages for our meal and were virtually ignored by one young member of staff.

We would visit Cala D'Or again but we would definately not stay at Es Ravel D'Or.  My dad called it Hell's Bell's after Carry On Abroad.  Felt like we all needed another holiday on return.  This hotel is for youngsters only who don't do to bed till 2am.

After reading the reviews on the website i too was expecting the holiday not to my liking, but once i arrived at the apartments i was very pleased. Although the studio apartments are for three people to share they are small, but overall very good and convenient for what we needed on our holiday.

I know these apartments are self catering, but if u do want a holiday where u can eat in i would suggest a larger apartment as the studios only have the basic equipment, which in our case was never used.
The hotel staff were excellent especially tina and Gaye on the reception desk very helpful when we needed them with any problems.

Both reps Matt and Grant were fantastic and also able to help with any problems.

Only thing i would say is that the drinks in tropical Gardens are expensive and if u want good value for money and good entertainment go to the hollywood bar where there is kareoke every night, and sunday spectacular which is just a live show. Also films during day i.e. shrek 2!!

The resort itself meets any age requirements, and would satisfy most peoples needs. where the apartments are situated i would say just a stones throw from main resort eating area. Best beach would be the Cala Ferrera beach as being girls on holiday we were able to get up at 11.00 and still be able to have 5 sunbeds and 2 umbrellas. The other beach is very busy.

Had a fantastic two weeks at these apartments and i would definately return in the near future.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We have just returned from a 2 week holiday to the Es Ravell D'Or apartments.

After reading the recent reports we were unsure what to expect from the accomodation. We travelled with friends and we all felt the accomodation was of a good standard and the facilies were very good.

The apartments were very clean (cleaned 3/4 times per week), the towels were changed regularly and the self accomodation equipment was very good (all new cutlery and plates, etc).

The apartments are spread over 4 blocks. We were in the furthest away (block 6) and this is allocated to young families as it's quieter. However it took less than 5 minutes walk to the pool. The only problem from this block is the view, as you don't look over the pool.

The swimming pool is very nice and cleaned daily. We never struggled for sun loungers and they were free of charge.

The hotel bar (Tropical Gardens) is one of the busiest in the area as there is a live performance every night (all of a good standard), however the drinks are very expensive.

The hotel is well located as there is a selection of bars & restaraunts all within 5 minutes from the hotel. We prefered the chinese (over the road from the hotel Sol / Spar supermarket) and the American BBQ restaraunt (at the back of the Hollywood Bar).

There is a kids playground nearby called Mallorcalandia, which was quite good.

The local beaches are very nice, however they get very busy at midday. We prefered Esmeralda Beach (which took 15 minutes to reach).

I was suprised how large the resort centre was, there is a fine selection of restaraunts and lots of bars (all suitable for a young family), however im not sure there is enough bars & nightclubs for a lads holiday !

We went to the Pirates excursion & Wild West Waterpark. They were both quite expensive & took over 1 hour to reach, however I would recommend both. They were excellent fun for everyone.

Overall it was a very pleasant holiday, the only negative points is the amount of money we spent (approx £1500.00 +) and the fact that Thomas Cook / Sunset failed to inform us that we are expected to pay the hotel for the cot hire (29 euros per week).

I complained to the rep (on several occasions about the additional charge, as I feel we should have been told before we arrived in the resort). They agreed that we should have been told in the UK at the time of booking and they finally paid for the first weeks charge.

This hotel was absolutely fantastic. The resources were great. There wasn't much for the children to do at night after 9pm orso becase the childrens clubs had finished but during the day they could go to the swimming pool, the beach, play pool, table tennis, and also other games.

There was a bar behind the apartment which was open to the public. It was called Tropical gardens. I t was brilliant. The bar staff were very friendly and spoke good englsh. There were lots of restaurants and a few bars and a couple of clubs. And there were so many shops it was unbeleivable!

I would definatley recommend this resort and hotel. I am going again next year without a doubt.

Resort Rating: Very Good

Accommodation Rating: Good

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Cala D'or is situated on the south east side of the island, about 50 mins by car or coach from the airport at Palma, Cala D'or is a small town, with many bars and resteraunts and shops. We thought that Cala D'or was a little on the expensive side for eating out compared to Magaluf, we found to be paying twice as much per person, however there are lots of good places to eat so have a look round, we found the Cheers bar reasonablely cheap.

The Es Ravell apartments are made up of 4 blocks, block 1 is above the noisy street bars, block 2 is were reception is situated, and has a good view of the hotels Tropical Garden, the best seats in the house if your watching the very good live entertainment are if your staying in this block.

The other 2 blocks are along the street, we stopped in the last block and found the rooms to be a lot quieter, the rooms are very spacious and accomodate 4 people with no problems, they are very clean and tidy, the kitchens are basic and so are the untencils, however the kitchen served its perpose well. the bedroom compromises of two single beds and a large built in cupboard and safe, the other two beds are in the main appartment, and I must admit they are quite comfortable beds as well, some rooms have the luxury of a double balcony accesible from the bedroom or the appartment room, they are cleaned 3 times a week, and the sheets are changed once a week, we did find that the balcony dividing walls were quite easy for someone to hop over, so DO lock your balcony doors and room when ever your going out! Another annoying thing was the balconys are only half walls, so noise and talking from other rooms is rather loud, so just be aware!

The Es Ravell has a live music area in the Tropical Garden at the rear, they put on a nightly show of some fairly good tribute groups, we saw Abba, Queen, The Temtations, and the BeeGees all were very good but do be aware that the bar prices are a rip off, you will pay 3 times as much for a drink than you would in a bar in the town, so either drink them slowly or sneak a bottle in under the table.

When we booked with Sunset we were asked to pay £20 per person for the coach transfares, that added up to £80, so we opted to hire a car from Palma airport, (book this before you travel about 6 weeks in advance if possible) and drive ourselves there, we got a good deal with Europa Car hire, they did us a family sized car for £140, plus we got to see the whole island and visit the water parks, the savings we made on not taking tour operators trips saved us a fortune.

Also driving in Majorca is excellent, I would recomend the car hire, we had to vacate our room at midday, so we packed up and drove to Magaluf for the day, popped into another hotel to change then spent the evening looking round Palma, we took the car back at midnight, and got the 3am plane home, this was superb as we did not have to hang arround Cala D'or all day waiting for the coach transfare as many other people had to do.

so to sum up the hotel and the resort, the resort is small but clean, a little dearer than other places, the hotel is clean, can be noisy up to midnight, and the walk to the beach is about 6 mins, our verdict Resort 7/10 Hotel 8/10, one last tip, get up early for a sunbed by the pool as by noon they are all spoken for.One last thing to mention, they play the same 2 songs all day long and at night, Star trekking and the Mimic Man, be warned aggghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We went from hotel to hotel in the coach whilst travelling from the airport and saw some lovely hotels. We were in high spirits as we had read these reviews, and saw details of the appartments in the brochure and for £1000 a week we expected a nice place.

We were absolutely devestated when we arrived at our Hotel, our room was a short walk down the road which was covered in food from the rubbish skips. The room was cramped and there was a fridge, two hobs which didn't work and thats it at far as the facilities went we had no chance of being able to self cater for a week we couldnt even make toast for breakfast. Everything else was to hire.

There was no air con and the rooms became unbearable and we had to put our names on a list and pay extra for a very small fan which we had to face at our son as he was extremely hot during the night. The pool area is nice and the bar clean and friendly. The evening entertainment is good but i suggest you go there after you've had enough to drink as the beer is very expensive. The Thomas Cook rep was hopeless as were the hotel staff. I saw two lads breaking in to an apartment, but when I reported it they didnt seem  at all interested.

The resort itself is very nice. The beaches are beautiful, clean and calm for the kids to swim. The town centre is full of restuarnts and bars for all the family. Not really for groups of youngsters to have a wild time. My advice would be to hire a car and visit the water parks and Marineland as the coach trips from the hotel worked out to be very expensive.

If you have booked one of the nice hotels in Cala dor then you will have great family holiday. If you have booked to stay at Es Ravell Do'r then spend as much time away from the hotel as possible and you will have a great time.

the rooms were big and cleaned often, but forget your bed linen we were there ten days and had same sheets on,i told a med hol adviser and she said they only change them on tuesday and saturday.wich made me think had someone slept in ours before we came!
food was not too bad salad was great!
kids were ok with both salads or pasta .
just be carful of scrambled eggs and pizza sometimes cold or not cooked enough.but everything else ok  and puddings were good too especialy custard eclares!!!
the snack bar was great the best weve had! all freshly cooked and open when restraunt was closed drinks fab coffee better there.

kids entertainment!??? boo ,we missed daytime not a word of english.and too many entertainers in one game they should be split up and do more games.
night time disco starts too late 8:30 then shows start at 9:30 or 10:00.
dont bother sitting at the front as people block your view standing infront of your tables.
sunbeds taken by 7am towels on!!

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

This holiday was booked with seperate flights and transfers.

We stayed all inclusive, and as per previous comments it was mostly Germans.  very few english.

The appartment we had was very good it was clean and in good repair and was cleaned regularly.  The only downfall was we were on the top floor of a 3 floor block.  So lugging a buggy up and down every day was a pain to say the least.  It had balconies to the front and rear of it with a clothes airer on one and a patio set on the other.

The food was edible but nothing to write home about!  Did get a bit boring and was quite repetetive.  The salad were very good with a good choice.  Not much choice for kids - pizza or chips basically.  The snack bar was open most of the day by the pool and you could have burgers, toasties, chips or baggettes with a choice of fillings but you probably needed a filling after eating them they were sometimes very hard.

The entertainment was poor.  The entertainment staff announced things like mini disco but they announced it in other languages first then you may catch a bit of broken english!  So we were disapointed as there wasn't anything for the kids to do.  My husband joined in a couple of games of darts and water polo but lots of cheating going on so not enjoyable.

There are 3 swimming pools which are ok and they are manned by 1 lifeguard.

Local beach lovely, but very busy and sea full of jellyfish! so didn't bother going on again afer spending one day on it.

Local area has plenty of shops, bars and restaurants if you want to get out of the complex.  Quite a distance from Cala d'or though.

To sum it up we did enjoy it but we wouldn't go back.

After only being able to see 1 review we were a bit wary about what to expect.
Although we stayed all inclusive we had a really spacious 2 bedroomed apartment with a massive balcony on both sides.
This was cleaned 5 days a week and towels/bedding changed regularly. Kitchen facilities were very basic but the only thing we used were the glasses - why cook ?
The complex was largely german and the entertainment was very amateur - good for a laugh though !
Our children are of an age where they entertain themselves so this didn't bother them but could've been hard work with younger children.

The pool is lovely - normal problems with towels though but we preferred the beach which was only 5 mins away.
The food got a bit too much after a while so ate out a few nights but prices are very reasonable.
These apartments are just outside Cala d'or but you can walk there around a fantastic marina - takes about 45 mins or you can get a taxi for 5 euros each way.

I wouldn't not go back as we definitely got our moneys worth but next time would find soemwhere closer to Cala D'or.
Overall I'd rate this as 7/10

3 star is fair for this resort, clean (rooms with air con) - and quite large (approx 1200 guests)-maintance could have been better. Very close to the beach, good pools all inclusive is very good value. Most of the holiday makers are German ( ok as long as the war is not mentioned) this made it difficult for our children to make friends; but they enjoyed themselves anyway. The food is good but selction is limited.

All in all i would make a return visit if money is an issue as it was this year (£329 pp including flights all inc)

We booked our flight/accommodation separately. These hotels are mainly timeshare apartments and we could not fault these as they were very spacious and clean.

We were very surprised to find that when we arrived we were told the hotel was 75% German, only later to find the entertainment, kids clubs etc. were all in German. We later realised that we were probably the only English family at this point, although later in the week we did manage to meet another family. This really did make a big impact of our holiday as the children didn't want to join the kids club (wouldn't have understood) so they needed more entertaining than expected.

We stayed here fully inclusive - be aware as I didn't feel the food was up to much. It was buffet style and there was a pool side bar which did snacks. My partner and the kids didn't seem to mind the breakfast, but we ended up eating out most evenings. The ice creams which were provided, were given in a small round tub - so not the ice creams/lolly's we were expecting.

The hotel is staffed by very friendly, helpful people. We stayed there on a half board basis and found the food very good. The evening meal was arranged in two sittings - one at 6.30 and the next at 8.00 which did away with the mad scramble of too many people in the dining room at once.
The pool is nice and clean - and the beach is very close by just down some steps. Not too ardous to reach at all!!

Unfortunately we were at the side of the hotel which received deliveries and had vans and the bin men turn up early in the morning. Try for a view overlooking the pool of the other side unless you are a heavy sleeper!

All in all very good - although as we went towards the end of the season (last week in August)it may be crowded on the beach and round the pool in mid season.

The apartments have basic decor, but are spacious and very clean. There is no television or microwave but there there is air condition.  There is a small pool and bar area. Theses apartments are good for people wanting value for money. It is near a small shop supermarket selling essentials. It takes about 5 min walk to the beach at cala ferrera, down a very steep hill and stairs.  The beach is beautiful small, there was a snack restaurant and a little shop on the beach with plenty of sunbeds and shades. Cala Ferrera has a small selection of bars, restaurants and shops but no night clubs. If you want a quite relaxing holiday this should suffice, if you want 18-30 style then you'll probably hate the area. Cala Esmerelda beach is a short walk away.

For more selection you can go to cala d'or which takes about 20 min to get there, cheap to get a taxi around 5 euros.  The beach at cala d'or beach is very picturess and peaceful. As it is small can get crowded in the summer. You can enjoyed a lovely chineses back massage on the beach. cala'dor has a huge selection of shops, bars and lovely restaurants.  it is a must to take a walk down at the harbour, the Retaurants are pricey here compaired to the centre of the town.

we had a lovely holiday and would go back again

This was a last minute deal arranged through John Semple Travel.. (Excellent service)

Accommodation - rated only 2 * but in my opinion should be more.  Rooms air conditioned, clean and adequate for a family of 4.

Clean pool area, small games room (in need of refurbishment) excellent pool bar serving drinks and snacks.

Close to all amenties and a few minutes walk from Ferrera Beach - ideal for the kids.

Very family orientated place in general.

Local bars, cafes etc., terrific for kids in particular CAFETERIA BON SOL family run establishment.  This couple made you feel at home and the prices were very reasonable too.. food was excellent and service... you could not fault...

Even after a fortnight we still found a variety of things to do and will go back in the future.

Booked over the phone £980 for 4 people. Got to Ferrera Blanca Apartments around 12 noon had to wait until 2pm for the apartment this is the Ferrera Blaca's policy because they let you keep the room till noon when you check out. Our apartment was very clean and well equipped, toaster, kettle, tv, microwave,(take your own tin opener the one provided would baffle Ray Mears). We were on the second floor near the main pool and bar with a balcony overlooking other apartments with a view of the Cala Ferrera beach. The main pool was very clean with lots of sun beds, the bar and bar snacks were not expensive and the bar staff very pleasant. Supermarket on site and a better supermarket across the road, entertainment provided every night (not my thing but people did enjoy it very good for kids) entertianment finished at midnight. 50 yards to nearest bar and a short walk to a good selection of shops bars and restaurants another 10 min stroll to Cala d'or centre.

I would be happy to stay at Ferrera Blanca Apartments again.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Arrived home today.  Weather was fantastic all week.  Air con didn't seem to work though so very hot in the night.

Bit shocked at apartments when we first arrived.  We had to walk with a pram, 3 suitcases and a grumpy 2 year old in the heat up to the 2nd storey - no lift - to our apt about 500 metres away.  Very dated and basic but ok if you're only using apartment as a base.  Cleaned about 3 times during the week.  Beds made twice and sheets changed once.  Towels were changed about 3 times during the week.  Cleaner did a quick once over with a brush and mopped the floors.  I noted that under the beds and sofa were left unswept and not mopped.

Get a security box if you're worried about security.  We didn't have any problems.

Apartments are actually in Cala Ferrera which is about a mile away from Cala D'Or.  You can walk there though because they kind of run into each other. Cala Ferrera is a decent size resort with plenty of restaurants and shops.  The beach is just over the road from the apts but you have to go down steps to get there.  Also you have to pay for the sunbeds and umbrellas which, had we gone there in the day, would have cost about £13 per day for 3 beds and an umbrella.

Ask for a room away from the square where the entertainment takes place unless you want to be kept awake until midnight every night.  We could hear it clearly from our apt even tho we were two blocks over.  There is a pool for each cluster of apts.  We had lovely view on top storey and balcony was in the sun all day.  Not great walking up and down stairs especially with the pram but great to relax in the sun when the baby was sleeping as the top storey apt gets sun whereas the ground floor and middle storey balcony were in shade.

Didn't really bother with entertainment.  Didn't look fantastic.  Kenyan boys were good though.

Duke of York was ok for breakfast and 3 dolphins.  Food better at the marina in Cala D'Or.  Other restaurants seemed more hit and miss.  Marina was long walk away but you can catch the train that goes from by supermarket by fountains and will take you to marina for 3 euros each.

Supermarket opposite apts well stocked and have all the necessities.  Not too expensive either.

We hired a car with Avis.  HiperCar seemed quite a bit cheaper though.  Just needed to book day before for a car seat so went with Avis instead.  Went to Soller on the tram.  Airtours do trip from Port Soller on a boat, then a tram to soller and a train from soller to palma. We went to soller by ourselves and just went on the tram.  Took long enough to get there - go the direct route, much safer and quicker believe me!

All in all a good family holiday.  Pools were great.  Plenty of sunbeds and lots of places to walk around.  If you just use apts for a base then you should be pleased.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

This is a great hotel, we booked at last minute and even though I looked at the holiday reviews, the hotel was fantastic. The complex has about 10 apartment blocks, some 3 block high and some 2 block high - the best blocks are 8, 9 or 10 as these are generally overlooking the beach. On the main apartment blocks, which are near to reception are great too though. There are 3 pools which you can choose from - the main one which is by the bar and entertainment stage is really busy and full of children, but there are another 2 pools which you can choose from and are a lot quieter, even one overlooking the beach. The only minor downside, is the fact that there isn't a great deal to go and explore if you like going out and about, as all the trips/buses mean you taking a whole day out of your holiday and in general just taking to you other beach areas. There are 4 different beach coves in the resort to choose from as it is. This is a great place to go and even better if you just want a week in the sun. Enjoy

We have just returned from the ferrera blanca apartments and had a brilliant time . our room was nice and big and were cleaned 3 times a week . beds were comfy  and sheets were clean and had a big balcony. We paid £347 for me and hubby for 1 week self catering so it was well worth it . A few ppl were complaining about there rooms but i think they may have been the fussy ones !! our room was not overlooking the pool but wasnt to bad and who stays in there room to look at the pool all day  anyway ?  the swimming pools were great . there were 3 where we were staying and across the road was the sister apertments with another swimming pool which everyone could use .
cant really comment on the hotel food and entertainment as we always went out and didnt eat anything except a burger one dinnertime and that was fine .
shops are reasonable and well stocked !
Beaches also cant comment on as stayed round the pool most of the time

The best place to eat for breakfast we thought was the three dolphins out of the hotel head up to the main street and its across the road at the top . There were set breakfasts which you couldnt change item for item but then we twigged on we could make up our own and it worked out just as cheap .
Andys bar was the best for prawn cocktails and steaks and i know when a steak is a good steak ! entertainment was good make sure you go to the paradise eden bar for a sing song and to be hypnotised it is a fab night and tell the karaoke man and sam that jojo said hi !!! we also went to a bar called hesicina bar or something like that its by the duke of devonshire and downstairs.  There is a free night in there to see the reps dance and do stuff which is ok . we did find it very intimidating when all the reps were dancing as we  were sat on the tables by the dancefloor and  you didnt know where to look but that may just of been us

one week at cala d or  is enough and we may go back in a few years its ok for a week to chill out and relax !

let me start out by saying what a fantastic place cala dor is in majorca ....
firstly when we arrived at our hotel we requested a cot for our 4 month old baby son the reason we chose the ferrera blanca was because it was supposed to be great for famillies anyway we got to our room soon as we opend the door you could smell a very strong damp smell as we got to the appartment very late we just wanted to get to bed anyhow the damp smel was there the whole holiday .

when we came to put our son in the cot that they had provided we lifted up the mattress to find that the cot was full of dead leaves and ants so obviously we couldnt use that also when we arrived at our room it was about 11pm and the music from the ferrera blanca was so loud we couldnt sleep even the glass in our windows was vibrating untill it was finnished at around 1 am not very good for all you famillies out there there were a lot of other things i could go into but as im sure by now you get my drift 1 other major thing the maids were very poor ...

like i say cala dor itself was fantastic just not the ferrera blanca

This was a holiday booked very late in the season and what a mistake !!

The Ferrera Blanca 1 bedroomed apartment was pleasant enough, basic but clean although the inland view from the balcony left a lot to be desired straight over the hotels skips.

Luckily we had only booked for a one week break (The October school break)...unfortunately this turned out to be a noisy week as directly behind our apartment was a building site where a man operated a piledriver from 8am until 7pm daily..When I complained to the hotel management about the noise they said they had no idea what the noise was and promised to investigate.

They had not come back to me by the next evening so I again went down to reception where the young receptionist told me that the work had been going on for the past 10 days and the local planning dept had given them permission to use the machinery until 7pm each evening.
I contacted my rep (whom I had never laid eyes on during our stay) via a UK telephone number as no-one was answering the local telephone.  The rep said they had no idea the work was being done !!(strange as their reps slept in the apartment over the road from ours).

Eventually we decided that as we were now 5 days into our stay and nothing had been done about our complaint we would try and make the best of it....Oh Dear the next day was even worse as we woke to find the town of Cala D'or deserted !! 90% of the shops pubs and clubs had closed down and put the shutters up...The next day all but 2 of the places to eat had closed and we were due to leave the hotel at 2pm to travel to Palma airport but after 10am our hotel too had closed down which meant that there was no food or drink obtainable from 10am until we reached the airport. We thought we were hard done to but 2 other families with small children travelling back to a London airport were not being picked up until 5.30pm.

Cala D'or itself is a really nice quiet place but I'm afraid our stay at the end of last season will be our one and only time there and it also was the last time I used My Travel (with whom I had 6 foreign holidays in the last 4 years).
My letter of complaint to My Travel simply drew a short response stating they were unaware of any building works prior to my departing the UK and that they have no control over premises closing at the end of the season....Well I have control over my wallet and it won't be opening My Travels way again!!

on our arrival to the ferra blanca apartments room was not cleaned told to come back in twenty minuites we went back after 45mins and was handed a key and was given a map of where we were stopping  when we got to room found room was not cleaned luckliy enough we put our cases in our parents room which had been cleaned in a fashion went out looked around the town as this was our second time of visiting in the last two years so we knew where to eat and drink but when we got there we were astounded at the prices as a burger and chips cost in between 5 and 6 pound each and a pint of san miugel was over 2 pound a pint thought i was back in england with the prices . also they are stuffing the english on the exchange rate at the time of going the enlish rate over here was 1.42 and a bit over there the highest was 1.40 and a bit and the lowest was 1.33 is it because we are not in the euro that they are stuffing us .

any way back to the hotel standard of cleaning is appalling rooms where never swept or moped clean sheets only once in one week had to empty bins our selves had to ask for clean towels on last day as for security there wasnt any and with a gentle kick you would be able to push door open could not lock door from inside at night just a flimsy lock you pushed across at night  so had to push sideboard across for exta security

if asked would i recommend this hotel to anyone i would advise them to steer clear of it and the resort of calador

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We paid £310 each to stay at these apartments for one week mid sept, so we were expecting clean modern and basic rooms for the price we paid. We did in fact have to change rooms 3 times before we got a half decent one. We also saw other people wanting to change rooms so we were not alone.

The rooms are awful they are very very old and in need of repair and updating. The rooms looked like something you would have found in spain in 1974, thats how bad they were. It does seem to be pot luck as to how good your room is as some (very few) seem to have been updated abit. I would not stay here again and I feel the only people they would suit are young families that want a cheap holiday if they are on a low buget. If you are used to 3,4 or 5 star hotels then this place is a real reality shock.

I went with my mum and sister and it was just a chance to spend some time with my family, we did not pay alot so were not expecting the works but it was not worth the £930 we paid. Last year I  stayed in a 4 star hotel in Gozo and next year im staying in a 5 star hotel in Kefalonia, so this place is far worse than I was expecting. I can only say that the beach is close and is small but nice, there are no nice bars near but a few nice resturants. Cala d or is awful it is like being in Blackpool with the worst kind of people. It is full of british pubs and we even found a english fish & chip shop (how sad). I have been to spain on cheap holidays before and have never felt so much like I was in a mini England. If you want a sunday dinner, sports bars, british pubs and larger louts then this is the holiday for you. If you want nice food, bars, and a relaxing time then head for the marina in Cala d or its more expensive but well worth it.

Sorry to be so blunt but I would not stay at these apartments again or go to Cala d or again.

Had a very good holiday - stayed for a week in early Septemember 2006.The apartments were not the biggest but were very clean , they were cleaned 3 times in the week. The air con was also excellent because we weren't expecting it.The food in the apartments was a bit dodgy - asked for a spanish omelette.Got one but instead of potato in it there were skinny chips.B/Q was also a bit ropey.Food in Cala d'Or was a bit hit and miss. Not bad if you're not too fussy.Places I would recommend are Tapas Y mas (a small tapas place in cala ferrera) - dates wrapped in bacon are outstanding. The other place to visit would be the marina ,5 euros in a taxi. Can't remember the name of the restaurant but i think most in that area are better than most in cala d'or.

Resort is a bit hilly so if you've agammy leg or a dodgy ticker i'd give the place a miss.Getting down to the beach with a 6th month old baby was a operation and we only attempted that the once.

We had a nice relaxing holiday. We just would have liked the resort to have a more spanish feel.

Just got back from a week at Ferrera Blanca Apartments in Cala d'Or.
Our apartment was basic but very clean. The air conditioning was working and very welcome, and we had our towels and bedding changed at least twice within the week.
Cala d'Or is a lovely resort with plenty to do for all ages. There are plenty of bars and restaurants. We would recomend the resort and apartments, with special mention to Papaya Polynesian bar right on the complex doorstep. The Duke of Devonshire is ok for meals but closes dead on 10:00 pm, so don't go in at 9:45 and expect anything but "sorry we're closing".

the apts were rubbish we had ants in the bedroom and also they were on the bed as well the beach was not very good had to go up and down steps all the time not very good in the hot weather

if you want to go anywhere you must hire a car otherwise you will be stuck and there is not a lot to do either. bars and restaraunts very dear. also went to one restaraunt sat down waited about 10 mins for somebody to bring a menu over and when they did we were left there waiting.the reps were rubbish if you went to see them not very good service at all. also heater on balcony blowing hot air in the middle of the day when it was already boiling hot outside.do not go on this hoilday if you dont like walking in very hot weather. also beware that there are a lot of germans over there as well. also watch out for the maids they will walk into your apts without knocking the door to see if you are there or if you have gone out.

all in all me and my husband would not recomend cala/dor or these apts.

On arrival at hotel found room to be clean and tidy. We had a room overlooking the main pool, which was a nice view but unfortunatly only got the sun in the morning.
We stayed for a week and the maid cleaned the room about 4 times and changed the towels etc about 3 times.
The cala ferrera beach was nice and down a fair few steps.
We went self-catering and went to resturants around the resort so didnt eat at the hotel resturant but it seemed to have a variety of foods available.
Saw the "entertainment" one night which was quite poor so went to a bar instead for the rest of the week.

We expected the hotel to be a small family run place but it was spread out over two sides of a road and we think it would be very busy in the peak season.
Whilst on holiday we rented a car for 2 days and went to the Caves of Drach which is well worth a view and also went to Palma.
If we had gone with the holiday company on their excursions to these places it would have cost over £100 for just the one trip!
Unfortunatly the rep told us the public buses werent very good which seemed untrue as there was plently of other tourists at the bus stops.

Overall we recommened to hire a car as the island is easy to get around, and is worth going on your own as you will most likely see more places.

After reading other reviews about apartments been burgled we were a bit worried about staying here ,but we needn't have worried, we had a great time here and would definately recommend the ferrera blanca to anyone thinking of going.

Our apartment was across the road from the main reception area and overlooked the beach and the pool was close by, apt just a nice size for 2 of us, was very clean and maid service was just about every day, the staff were friendly especially the entertainment team. Entertainment every night at the apartments which was fun, but if u prefered there were plenty of bars and restaurant close by especially on corner nr apartments the polynesian bar very friendly and funny, or 10mins walk into centre of cala d'Or, try linnekers and woody's both good entertainment. Plenty of trips if you want to get out and about, inca market and boat trip worth going on, and about 5 min taxi ride to the marina where there are some fabulous yachts to see, the only thing i can complain about is the weather, a bit cloudy and wet, but then it was quite late in the season, didn't let that spoil our holiday though, also not as expensive as i thought it would be,

would definately go back to the ferrera blance again, good for both adults and children, so go and enjoy, we did

We arrived at the apartments and booked in with the, (as we came to find out was the norm), friendly hotel staff. The other couple in our group were to arrive later that day, . We recieved the keys and had explained to us where the room was and that it was in one of the five annex complex`s. We checked it out and found quite a few concerns, We went back to reception, asked where the other couple in our party would be,that we were'nt happy with our location and about our concerns. We were told they would be unable to move us next to the couple in the main complex that day but would sort it out for us the next day and will sort  the other concerns straight away. They did exactly that, the hotel will do everything they can to help, as quickly as possible, E.G. The weather was very cold and rained almost none stop, so we asked for a heater in the room. within 5 minutes we had a heater in our room.

The resort has plenty going on with the usual bars, shops and restraunts. A special mention has to go out to PHILLIP,JOHN and 'THE CREW'in CARABEL'S fun pub. The owner, Phillip, is off his trolley and genuinely enjoyed trying to make everybodys time thier a good one until 3.00am every night.

The local Spar shop, (at the back of the hotel turn left about 70m up the bank),is run by a lady from Whitley bay near Newcastle and she was always helpful if we ever needed any advice on anything. Plus things were fairly cheap.

The beach is just about 100m walk from the hotel and is worth a look with its clear waters and clean sands. The cafe`s and bar's sell good quality, not too expensive food n drink.

The only complaints i had were that the rooms only got cleaned once and the beds had the same blankets on all week.

We went near the end of season so it was a little too quiet, but still worth every. penny. I would recommend this holiday to anyone, it can be as quiet or lively as you want it to be because of its location.

the hotel is actually in cala fererra but cala dor is a short distance away if going during the day you could walk it at night i recommend a taxi as there is no street light.

the resort is aimed at families and is very well catered for them, i felt it was far too quite for us ages 22 and 23, mainly because it ws end of season but the pubs were very family focused. one pub id highly recommend is carabel, happy hours between 8 and 10, anything you want 2 for 1 so 6 drinks came to 12 euros, other pubs are very expensive and there is very little promos going on, would recommend going in to cala dor where its all pedestrianised and more choice of good restaraunts. the arches is a brilliant english family run cafe/pub staff are VERY friends prices are greta and food excellent, would advise you to try the bacon chicken and garlic mayo baguette! also andys is a great place to eat too.

the hotel was extremly clean and no issues with theft while we were there, safety box is secured inside the wardrobe, rooms very clean and spacious and a huge balcony. rooms were cleaned maybe 4 times in the week we were there and bed linen around the same. staff are very friendly, bar staff and reception always there to help, we never saw much of the entertainment but what we did see we didnt think much of it, might be better during peak season.

Having read some of the reviews on this site I was a bit apprehensive about staying at these apartments. However, I needn't have worried. The apartment was small but very clean and tidy. Maid service was most days with plenty of clean towels and sheets.

A bit disappointed with the pool areas - very basic. The main pool was quite rowdy and the smaller pool near the beach was often quite smelly! Luckily the beach was on our doorstep so we spent a lot of time there. Cala Ferrera is a beautiful beach with clear shallow water. There is a beachside bar/restaurant run by the most friendly Spanish family and customers are treated like guests at a party. Some afternoons there was live music at this bar and the staff joined in the singing and dancing. Fabulous! Cala D'Or is a great resort although we stayed mostly in the Cala Ferrera area in the evenings. Plenty of good restaurants but we especially liked El Rancho steakhouse, Papparazi and Papaya. The cocktails in Papaya are fantastic and as this is run by the same family as the beach bar you are guaranteed a warm welcome. T

he food is delicious and service brilliant. Tony is the host with the most and the rest of the staff are brilliant. We went to the Marina one night which was worth a look but the restaurants were a bit less relaxing than in the resort. Have to recommend the night out to Pirates in Magalluf which is a tremendous show. The coach journey back to the resort was a bit of a nightmare as it took 2 hours and the rep never stopped talking but worth it to see the show.

This was our second trip to Cala D'Or and we enjoyed it just as much as the first visit

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

I have been visiting the beautiful resort of Cala D'or for 14 years, its appeal is quite simple, the locals are very friendly. Lots for the kids to do and lots for just couples, i have stayed all over cala d'or in many hotels, villas, but for the past 4 yrs have stayed at the Ferrera Blanca appartments. The Entertainment is first class and the staff bend over backwards to make your holiday memorable, and they accomplish this every time.

When you arrive ask for a sea view and if your lucky they will give you a room in the blocks opposite the main hotel, the views are absolutely amazing overlooking the beach and with a balcony you could play football on.

You are literally 30 seconds from the beach, and a stones throw from the main strip that has bars restaurants and a great amusement park for the kids.

To be honest i shouldn't be so honest as i want the prices of my holiday to Cala d'or to stay as they are but this resort is becoming very popular and i have seen it grow over the years along with the bill for visiting it.

If you have a holiday booked to this resort relax you'll love it.

Oh and if you get chance visit Hollywood Bar and say hello to Juan the owner and visit the website barhollywood  com.

Having read some of the horror stories on this site about these apartments I thought I'd contra those with some of our own excellent experiences.  The Accommodation was spotless, spacious and well appointed.  The reception staff were friendly and helpful.  The cleaning staff were friendly and efficient.  The entertainment staff, particularly for the 3-10 age bracket, were truly magnificent (my daughter's still ranting on about the pink clown!!).  The ONLY negative comment I can make is about the access to the beach and the amount of steps involved.  During our stay there was NO signs of any trouble whatsoever and we didn't meet anyone else that had any complaint.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

The apartments are clean, towels changed about 3 times a week.Good sized apartments for a family of four. The pools are lovely and clean and the entertainment staff for the hotel go all out to give you everything from water polo, pistol shooting, boules and football and while you can do that the kids can go into the kids club.

There is evening entertainment that starts with the kids disco, bingo and then a cabaret or artist, the show finishes at 12pm so there is no rowdy noise going on at night. The pool snack bar serves good food until 5pm which is reasonably priced. The alchohol is also one of the cheapest in the resort.

The apartments are in a good location for the beach and a central location for the bars and restaurants.Cala d 'or is only a 10 minute walk away. All in all this was a very enjoyable holiday we are just sorry we only went for a week. Don't worry too much about the robberies, we did before we went after reading the reviews on this site but we got a safey deposit box and kept everything in there and doubled the front and patio doors and were okay.

Go and enjoy yourselves we did and would definately go back again.

Well i have just got back and decided to write about my holiday.

Well the resort was fabulous and cala Dor is beautiful the beach and everything is spectacular. I loved the nightlife and reccomend going to Yates bar but i have to say i was dissapointed with the reps. I advise that if you go to Ferrera blanca, find your own way around resort and do not ask them for anything as there knowledge is abominable.

I had a fantastic time however and couldnt fault the hotel really just that it needed a good clean and the security on the hotel was not up to standard. I had a fantastic holiday in Cala dor but will not be using the Reps Service again with Airtours. !! but i reccomend the hotel for a basic cheap holiday.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Just returned from Cala Ferrera apartments after booking a late cheap deal on the web and had a few concerns regarding the break-ins detailed in some reviews on this site. I raised the burglary issue with the rep on the 1st day and she advised it isnt a problem any more although the patio doors do look rather flimsy so i can't see what had added to the security ,so i rented a safe deposit and didn't leave stuff lying around in the apartment just in case and it proved ok.

The apartments were basic but adequate and well cleaned and a good location. I arrived for the 1st week of the season and the place was very quiet although close to the end of the week it looked like the chav plane had landed bringing with it a bling and imitation burberry clad tattooed army playing loud music at all hours and bad language although the hotel did speak to the individuals. There are a good couple of bars close by for watching football and happy hours and it is only 5 minutes to the beach and 10 minutes to the centre of cala dor.

Overall the staff were helpful and it is a decent hotel and proved good value.

This was our first time abroad and having read reports about these appartments I was regretting booking there, however it was totally different. The appartments were basic but clean the complex was lovely, the rooms were cleaned nearly every day. The Staff were brillent very good with the kids and nothing was to much trouble.Entertainment was brill,Food on the complex value for money and really nice.We went to Marine land that was so good the kids loved the sealions and dolphin show.

For eating out I really recommend The Duke of Devonshire fantasic staff good food and cheap beer being vegetarian they had alot of choice. We ate there nearly every day.I would try there sunday roast delicious.
I would recommend this complex and have so many happy memories and would definately go back there again. The Thomson staff were really helpful and the kids club brill gave the kids a couple of hours away from us and they got to meet friends.

Overall fantastic holiday!

Fantastic holiday, the apartments were clean and comfortable.

Three very good pools, close to beach with crystal clear water and sand. The hotel restaurant exceptional value - 2 adults and 2 children ate three course buffet meal with 2 cokes and bottle of house wine for £21. It's not worht eating in any of the english bars with value like this! We were there in Early October and had a wonderful time, however I do think that it may feel overcrowded in high season.

The staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful esoecially the excellent entertainment team, also there were some professional acts for evening entertainment that were realyy good.

Al in all we had the best holiday ever so far, don't be put off by the bad reviews on this site. We hired a sfety deposit box after reading here about robberies but can honestly say that there were no robberies that we heard of whilst we were there. A tip if you are going to book do it direct on the Thomson website for the best deal.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We booked a late holiday from Thomson S/C choice and were allocated this 1 bedroom apartment. For once the accommodation was better than advertised.

All apartments this year have been fitted with air con and other facilities included phone, TV, microwave, toaster etc. The apartment was small but fine as there were only 2 of us. As others have mentioned, it was kept clean and well serviced. We were in the quieter area near the beach which suited us as we came for a chillout week to catch some rays and that's exactly what we did.

There are loads of restaurants, supermarkets and shops close at hand and we found prices in general reasonable. We enjoyed eating at Andy's Bar, not far away, friendly but not pushy (some waiters at other places were a bit overattentive for 2 women on their own!)

The air con was an absolute treasure. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a undemanding, comfortable holiday. Note it was the beginning of September and schools had restarted. Before then I feel the complex would have been noisier and much more crowded.

The reps were friendly and available although we weren't interested in the excursions.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We have just got back from a lovely holiday.

I would recommend these appartments, they were not outstanding but were fine, clean and near to the resort centre.  The room had everything we needed but did smell a bit musty.  There are three pools, the main pool was too busy for us with lots of children and noise but we found a quieter pool, overlooking the beach which was lovely and not too busy.

The beach was nice, calm sea, quite small but with a couple of bars and places to eat around it.

The appartments are in walking distance of several bars and restaurants, we tended to stay close to home.  The main, busy resort of Cala D'or is about a 15 minute stroll and has everything you could need, including Burger King!  I thought it was a bit brash over all, lots of places to get your english breakfast and fish and chips though if you are in to that kind of thing.

We got a taxi (6 euros) a couple of nights to the Marina, I think you could walk it but it is quite a way.  The Marina is lovely, lots of really nice, exclusive restaurants, much more peaceful than the main resort and great for people-watching.  I would recommend it for couples wanting a more intimate meal or for a special occasion.

I think the resort and appartments have everything you want.  If you like to be round a lively pool and have organised entertainment then it is here.  If you prefer somewhere quieter and peaceful then you can find it.

The only thing was that we found it a bit noisy when we were trying to sleep and I think you would be disturbed if you wanted an early night!

Must admit we were a bit worried after reading some of the reviews but we had a lovely holiday.

We were in a one bedroom apartment across the road from the main buiding. Apartment small but adequate for two and very clean and quiet.  Rooms cleaned 4 times in seven days and staff were very friendly.  We did have a few ants but a spray left under the sink did the job in one go, we didn't see any more after that.

Staff in reception were very helpful and friendly as were Thomson Reps who were on hand morning and evening.

We tried different restaurants in Ferrera and Cala D'Or and each one was better than the last - I think our favourite was the El Faro D'Or.  We drank in the Carabella on a few occasions also a good pub for entertainment (if you like bad kareoke)

On the whole we had a lovely holiday in a lovely resort and think there was something for everyone and we would definately go back.

We didn't hear of any break-ins while we were there but we hired the safe.  The apartment was air conditioned so we didn't need to leave doors or windows open so we felt quite safe.

Just returned from a 7 night break at the ferra Blanca apartments.

On arrival we were showed to our room by friendly staff, but on entering the room there was a nasty smell. It was stale water coming from a rusty old fridge which had seen beter days. Also the two electric rings were rusty and not very clean. Other faults in the apartment included broken tiles, paint falling off ceiling in the kitchen area and balcony area diry and covered with ants, dont no when the patio furniture was last cleaned.

I complained to the rep about the apartment he told me to ask about being moved at reception i asked once then again, the next day i was told the managers were in a meeting and rooms were limited. The receptionist said we could get a new fridge so i agreed to this and told her to send the cleaners in, beacause i was fed up with wasting my holiday and complaining. The cleaners come in and swept the floor (thats what i call a good cleaner.............not never see the new fridge)

We also found the pool area not very clean sun loungers were dirty terraces neede sweeping ie ciggerates butts on the floor etc. The cleaners came in one more during ur stay didnt clean bathroomor kitchen just swepped the floor again only brought clean cheets once during our.

Compared to other places i have  stayed at the hygeine left a lot to be desired. I spoke to other guests who agreed to me i wouldn't recomend the apartments or go back there i was very disapointed.

Appartments are basic but clean. Towels and sheets changed on a regular basis. Thomson reps are very helpul and friendly. Would like to thank the entertainment team very much for making this holiday so special. 10/10 guys. If you are there next year we will definately be back. Special thank you to Quincy (who the kids fell in love with) you are a very funny man. Resort itself is good, nice restauarants. Would recommend DUKE OF DEVONSHIRE,EL FARO D'OR and WALSHES. Did hear of attempted break in's so take care. Beach nice but very busy.

We are seriously considering going back next year. Excellent holiday.

We have just returned from 2 weeks in the above appartments. I read some previous reviews on this site and was initially very concerned especially as I had already paid for the holiday. However I can thouroughly recommend the Ferrerra Blanca Appts.

We had a 1 bedroom apartment which although quite small is well equipped and kept very clean by the house keeping staff they officially service the appts 3 times a week although we found our was being serviced more than that. All of the entertainment is around the pool area so if you plan to go to bed before midnight or have young children I would recomend requesting a quieter appt away from the pool. The entertainment is of a good standard and the team headed up by Dave, helped by Sergio, Cheryl, Christina all work very hard. The thompson reps were all very helpful and the kids club entertainers kept the young ones busy.

The bar on the corner of the appts is called the polynesian bar and is owned by a guy called Tony, very friendly good food and always a warm welcome. If you are hungry try The Arches an English run resturant 100yds from the appts the food is good quality and resonably priced.

We did not hear of the breaks-ins that were mentioned in recent reviews, I recommend a safety deposit box as piece of mind. Relax and enjoy

There was talk of break in so take care.

The resort itself is wonderful. Loads of bars and places to eat spoilt for choice.

The Beach was underneath us and was fantastic i did a jump of the rock and my god it was the scariest day of life but absoutley fantastic!!

The food here was very good had loads of bar/restaurants to choose from specially the Blue Dolphin nothing like a good old Pie and mash with peas and gravy is there!?

Overall this Holiday was fantastic and i would go back here again!!
Only downfall is the Staff were not very helpful bit miserable but maybe the dont likeus english i dont no whho does??? haha

Staff were friendly and helpful and generally the site was clean and well maintained. Entertainment was amateur and long winded for a basic holiday with no frills this is quite good but if you are looking for more comfort try elsewhere.

After a bit of confusion as to getting the key for the apartment(reception was closed, and a number was left for us to ring to get the key, took a few attemts to get through),we found the apartment fine.
Very spacious, but had a smell of damp in bedroom.
A big bonus was a washing machine.

The location was fantastic, the sea is literally your back garden.
My girls loved jumping off the higest rock into the sea.
The pool was tiny, with no sunbed's around the area.

We used the beach every day as its a bit cooler there and the sea is divine.
A lot of the apartments are privately owned and some live there permanent.
One was for sale and we asked how much,we were told 40000 euro's,Ithink this was due to location.
Cala ferrera is a great area.I actually preffered it to cala dor.
try El Fargo resteraunt,a lovely meal and quick service.
Also the indian near to mallorca land.
El rancho was overrated, the food was cold, took ages to come and the waiteresses were miserable.
The paparazzi was ok but took ages as did andy's bar.
For a cracking laugh,go to carabels bar.
Happy hour 8 till 10.whatever you order you will get one free.(even jugs of sangria).Fillipe .....before 10.he is just a bar man, after that he needs his head looking at.the girls who wait on are lovely and freindly, they genuinely like you.

I would book these apartments again and definately rate the area.

What a nice place to stay!!!

We have travelled all around Europe for many years and found that this was amongst the best. The pool may be a bit on the small side , but then again there aren't loads of people screaming and shouting all day and loads of small kids peeing in it.  Pool is overlooking a small rocky area that you can dive in from into quite deep ater and swim amongst the multitudes of different types of fish. You can also spend time fishing off these rocks and with a bit of skill/luck catch quite a few. If you swim (or walk) abot 150 metres to the left you end up on 1 beach, swim 200m straight across the small bay , you can get to another small beach and if you walk to the right for 2 minutes you come to another beach. There are a further 2 beaches closer to the town centre , which is about a 10 minute walk, through streets with a multitude of bars and restaurants and several children's areas with go-carts, bouncy castles and trampolines etc  .

The whole place is generally very low-rise (4 stories maximum (mostly 2 ) and is very clean and tidy. The town centre is very busy , but not at all boisterous and is generally pedestrianised with loads of restaurants, bars and shops - catering for all kinds of tastes. The only people this resort generally would not cater for are the beer swilling 18 - 25 year olds (although there are a few nightclubs and 1 small area that does!)

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

When we booked this holiday, we were uncertain of how the holiday would stack up as other reviews weren't exactly glowing.

However, we found both the apartment and the resort lovely and would recommend it to other families.

With a group of 4 children of mixed ages, we were worried that they would be bored, but they all had a great time. However, we were only there for a week, so maybe two weeks would be too much?

The apartment itself was a premier apartment (403, which means that it has air conditioning and ground floor access).

It was on two floors, with a double, a twin and a shower/bathroom on the first floor and a twin, shower/bathroom, kitchen and lounge on the ground floor, with access directly out on to a patio and then the cove. Very spacious.

Nicely decorated and modern, although each apartment seems to vary, from the others we saw whilst we were there.

The pool is smallish, ranging from 0.5m to 1.8m deep and about 10-15m long and about 5m wide. But was great and was not at all crowded even in high season. Only gripe was that it doesn't have sunbeds although we were lucky that our apartment had two, so we used them.

As aircon was only on the ground floor, we hired a couple of fans for upstairs. Really hot, so they made a massive difference. Only 9 euros each to hire and worth their weight in gold!

The apartment was spacious and had everything you would need, including a massive fridge and all the important things such as a corkscrew!!

Just about 10-15m from the pool is direct access in to the sea. Lovely clear water, with lots of fish, which makes snorkeling, drifting on a lilo etc a real pleasure.

The beach was sandy, but very crowded and a bit dirty, so we tended to stay around the pool and go in to the sea. From the beach you could hire pedalos, which had slides on them, which the kids loved and only 15 euro per hour.

The views from the apartment/pool were lovely, with yachts and motorboats etc mooring in the cove at night.

The resort of Cala Ferrera and Cala D'or were great with many restaurants and bars. In the week that we were there we never had a bad meal, although the prices did seem to vary considerably. The best we found were Andy's Restaurant, Mestral Restaurant, Papparazzi Restaurant, Hacienda Bar and Karaoke Bar (all in Cala Ferrera).

There seemed to be a number of trips/excursions that you could go on, although we only went on one which was a boat trip to a local fishing village and then a stopover in the sea for a swim. It was okay, but have been on more interesting boat trips.

Whilst we were there we drove out to Aqualand and Porto Cristo. The trip to Aqualand was good. Usual queues for some of the bigger rides, but others queue free. Hire a dinghy, which you will need for some rides and gives you priority on some rides. One tip, take your own lunch as prices high and quality low.

We had hired a car, which listeneing to others sounded a good idea, even though we hardly used it. However, it is only residents that can park in the car park, so you may have to find a space some way from the apartments.

Overall, a very successful holiday, well worth the money and were it not for the fact that we don't go back to resorts, we would go again!

Cala D'or is pleasant relaxed resort and the apartments were although a little dated, quiet and roomy.

We were a party of six, had three bedrooms, one double, one twin and one single. The couch in the lounge was a sofa bed and a further put up bed appeared on day one .  Apartment came with a washing machine which was unexpected but very handy and no TV.

Kitchen had a toaster oven hob and fridge freezer - adequate to cook a good meal with utensils etc.

No cockroaches - towel change, beds made and cleaning every 2 days. Reception very helpful - open ten til one each day.  The apartments are partly owned and partly rented so it's really pretty quiet and very pleasant.

The block we stayed in (no noise from any side) faced north east and got the morning sun but the pool got the sun until about four o clock.  The pool was relatively small but very clean and deep enough for a good swim.  No sunbeds provided - get a cheap lilo up the road.

The apartments are about ten yards from the sea, with short  2-5m cliffs to the water with two ladders from below the swimming pool area for access.

The water was clear and there were fish everywhere - get a snorkel and mask!

The water was warm and very clear. The beach is 2 minutes walk and forms the terminus of the cove so its quite narrow but quite long.

It was about  a two minute walk to the local bars and nearest supermarket.  Recommend the Arches (english run) for a good breakfast.  The town is about a ten minute walk away through a variety of shops and bars and childrens play areas.  The town is pleasant with some nice clothing shops and the usual array of perfumeries, tobacconists etc.  There is a Burger King in town - but no KFC - nearest seemed to be in Palma!

Various restaurants and bars will hassle you to try them - Barlovento was on balance about the best we tried.

The menus everywhere were very repetitive and not especially cheap wherever you go - not really impressed with the restaurant food but we were only there a week!

The most exclusive restaurant appeared to be Port Petit  which is down at the marina.

There are a large number of sellers offering CD's, Watches and sunglasses whcih appeared fake even coming up to the tables in restaurants  - beware.  They would re-approach even after being declined.

However, it is certainly a good family venue, there is also unobtrusive night life to be found The Cotton Club (nightclub) and Upstairs (bar) are recommended - if you want english music and night culture try Linekers bar.

Car hire  - would recommend Autos ROIG - very efficient collect you from your accomodation and return you when you return the car.

Driving in Mallorca is a pleasure - use the back roads - must see the mountains in the north west, from Pollenca to Soller in particular - awesome.

Really did rate Mallorca  - having seen Magaluf glad we went for the quieter east coast if you want to relax and chill out. Would definitely return to Cala D'or and Ferrera Park Apartments.

After reading the only review available for these apartments I was worried sick about taking my grandchildren there-sleepless nights, sleeping nights with nightmares about cockroach invasion, and thinking about cancelling the holiday.
The apartment we had,3rd floor, was clean and well maintained. Saw 2 cockroaches 1 dead and 1 very much alive....but so what? Abroad is all about different insect life!!!!

Don't be put off going here.We had a great time and I would use these apartments again. Speaking to other people in the complex ,everyone I met thought that the apartments were OK.
Brilliant resort, friendly people, great days out (Marineland and a boat trip) and a lot to do at night in the centre of Cala D'or.

This is the only holiday I have ever been on that I didn't want to come home from..we're going again...without the grandchildren!!!

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

If you like to be outnumbered by Germans this is the hotel for you, alarm bells rang when we entered the complex and the signs were in German first then English.

We had booked on a half board basis, dinner was very poor, the quality of the food is good, but the quantity is very limited not a lot too choose from, on the first night my kids had a bread roll and rice for their dinner, my wife is a vegetarian and she was not catered for either, things did not improve the folowing day we were treated to Kidneys in Red Wine Sauce and baked marrow, again no kids or vege options we complained to the Cosmos rep and hotel receptonist who transferred us onto self catering basis and we got a partial refund on our half board which was approx 460 Euros.

There are plenty of good quality restauarants Tonys / Beatrices all offer good food at good prices a visit to Cala D'Or marina for dinner is a must as there are lots of great restaurants overlooking the marina.
The accomadation is stated as 4 Star in the Cosmos brochure but should be 2/3 star our room was cleaned on our fifth day after we complained but was very hit or miss if it was cleaned on many occasions the maid had only taken the sign off the door and hung it on the other side without making the beds or cleaning the floor.

The swimming pool and sun terraces were cleaned everyday,if you want a sun-bed you have to up between 7.00-7.30 in the morning to reserve your plot ready for the sun beds to be unlocked at 8.00,yes it is true about the Germans by 8.05 all the sunbeds had gone.
The entertainment is very poor on our first night there was none, the daytime activities were very limited and were in German. We found a great English Bar the KO bar which catered for the kids and spent many great nights there.
The beaches here are fantastic well worth buying a facemask and snorkel,Cala Mondrago beach is well worth a visit you will not be dissapointed about 10 euros by cab.

Cala D'Or is a great resort I would reccomend you go there but not to these appartments

This is the 3rd time that we have stayed at these apartments and wont be the last!.

The staff are very helpful particulrly the day time receptionists Anne,Tony and Gertrude where nothing is to much trouble.Although featured in the COSMOS brochure it is considerably cheaper to book direct.

The accomodation was clean and spacious . Though on this occasion due to an overboking issue we were offered the opportunity to move from our 2 bedroomed apartment to a large 1 bedroomed apartment in return for 300 euros and an up grade from self catering to ALL-INCLUSIVE which for a family of 5 saved me a fortune though i did have to bribe my teenage daughter that we could cope!!.but be warned there are a lot of germans in the hotel and they are all on the all- inclusive option, the food was fine even the kids found something to eat on most days,

entertainment for both adults and children during the day is okay and you get out of it what you put in!!.We also ate out at Tonys bar and he must have a great memory as he welcomed us like long lost friends and the food is still excellent value for money. Most nights were spent in Bogarts music bar where Paco and Jose yet again entertained all of us and anyone who hasn't seen the "mimic man" performed is really missing something.we also went to Alcudia(beautiful beaches but busy) and Western water park in magaluf which was excellent even got 2 free tickets for this from the receptionist at LA MIRADA we had another great holiday though be warned that the BRITS are worst than the germans when it comes to reserving sunbeds at god knows what time!!.

hope to be returning soon!!

Have just returned from 10 days in Cala Egos. Although lots of people say walk into Cala d'Or is only 30 minutes we must be slow coaches as in the heat of 34C we only got as far as the end of the marina.Well worth the trip though, the marina is beautiful, and while you're there go on the Sea Riders speed boat, great fun 'specially if the sea is choppy!

Cala Egos is on the quiet side, not that many restaurants compared with Cala d'Or. The boys enjoyed wandering around on their own of an evening and seemed to end up in Yates bar most the time. Taxi into Cala d'Or is only 5 - 7 euros, well worth going as there is much more to do and see there. Went in so often we made friends with the taxi driver (Paquillo) and he ended up buying us a bottle of wine. If there are more than 4 of you dont wait at the taxi rank in Cala d'Or for a big taxi as it will take ages, they have to go out in order of which driver gets there first, so even if you are standing next to the 6 seater you will have to wait till its his turn. Get the phone number instead and phone from local phone box to be collected from a bar or hotel. Taxi office speak English okay.

La Mirada Apts were okay, not the best we have stopped in, floor wasnt clean on arrival, lots of utensils missing, but staff did try to rectify complaints quickly. Entertainment was usual, flamenco, karaoke etc. Water polo every afternoon at 4.30 bit of a pain as pool was taken over and it was so hot you needed to go in so had to go in baby pool. Also got a bit 'dangerous' sitting too near goals as balls tended to come hurtling over quite often! Lots of germans stop here but even so we had no trouble getting sunbeds at 9.00 - 9.30 each day.

On the whole I think this area is okay for families with younger children, those with teenagers are better off in Cala d'Or itself, there is just so much more there. Go to Hollywoods karaoke for a good laugh, and Copa d'Or Tapas bar for the best chocolate cake, mexican restaurant with big sombreros outside for the best fajitas, and if the taxi driver taking you there just keeps saying 'very hot' ask him if his name is Paquillo and say hello from us!

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

This was our second visit to the La Mirada appartments hotel complex. We last visited in 2002 and have noticed a few changes to the hotel.Firstly, the hotel now tries to sign up british holidaymakers onto their fullboard options  as all the german clients eat in.I would personally advise against this as their numerous eating restaurants within walking distance giving a better variety of food.

The hotel rooms are cleaned every day and the staff are pleasant and friendly.
The hotel has two pools both cleaned every night.Best time to swim, in a german free pool, is around lunchtime, when without fail all the full board guests queue for lunch.

The hotel has put up notices saying sunbeds cannot be toweled before 9.00 am and generally this seems to work.

Last time we went to Majorca we went to Son Amar a brilliant show for anyone over eight years old. This time we went to the Pirates show which is made for the british visitors, the show is for all ages and well recommended.
The hotel is set only a few hundred yards from a selection of shops, bars and restaurants. This is a safe area to let sixteen years old girls have a little freedom without worrying about them. They enjoyed Sparkles bar and the Karoake.
All in all an enjoyable holiday at a top class hotel.

Our friends booked online and got a slightly better price for their room, but were on the ground floor at the back of the hotel.Talking to other clients this seems the norm, the tour operators get the better placed rooms within the hotel.
PS The weather was fantastic......

We travelled to these apartments having never been abroad before and with our two small children with us.  We found the apartment lovely and clean and very spacious. We upgraded to all inclusive on the third day which worked out very cheap for us.  The childrens entertainer was brilliant and both my children enjoyed the shows but on for them as we went at the begining of the season we were able to put both the children in the kids club, which we took full advantage of on the second week. The beach nearest was lovely and thier is a train which stops outside the apartments and takes you to the town centre which was lovelt for all as thiers great views on the way.

We went to the Pirates show a little worried about the youngest as it was on until late but it was excellent and hilghly reccommended.

Great holiday and we are planning on going back to the same apartments this year.

Good resort, fab restaurants with variety of choice.  Great beaches, friendly people, quiet nightlife.

Hotel absolutely appalling - don't go there! Supposed to be 2 star - not even hostel rating. Owners NOT friendly. What they don't tell you is if you book bed and breakfast, breakfast is taken at Club Hippico Appartments, up the road from Las Ceibas. you also have to book in at Club Hippico - they don't tell you this either! Not a good start to the holiday.  Arrived tuesday night 9pm, moved out next morning!

It was cheap, but not cheerful! Have received a refund on return - that's how bad it was!

Basic but clean rooms. Lovely communual roof terrace for pre going out drinks.
No eating facilities but use of everything at the Hipico.
In previous stays we ate breakfast in the small dining room on the ground floor, however this year we were asked to go to the Hipico. There were also children in the hotel alhough it was an adult venue.
The Ceibas pool is clean and peaceful.

The location is perfect and the dailies were happy chatty (in Spanish only!!) thorough and left the place spotless.
Next doors bar is great for a chat and drinks. In the evening and at night it felt a little unsafe as there was no staff presence and it seems to be a league of nations hostel rather than a holiday makers pad. This was the big difference to previous years.

The dedicated rep Hazel deserves everything she gets and more in life, she gives above and beyond the call of duty - is always a delight and nothing is ever too much trouble. She has the best sense of humour and is fantastic fun on trips out - don't miss Son Amar evening. It is expensive but you will agree afterwards that it is worth every penny.

We booked our apartment through the internet.  It was a three bedroom house with two bathrooms.  It had its own garden, and we were overlooking the pool.  Cala Egos has plenty to offer.  there is plenty to do and see.  We ate out most of the time and the places we ate at were very nice.

As a family, we especially liked Marvels where we had breakfast.  Steve and Carol own Marvels and Steve cooks a blinding breakfast.  There are playstion 2 for the children to play on, pool table, and they have colouring books etc for the children to use.  They are a very friendly couple who welcome families with children young and old. Marvels is a little bit off the beaten track, but if you are walking towards the Marina, or the beach you will find them on the corner.  They are next door to a popular Spanish Restaurant Rincon de Pepe.  If you are going to Cala Egos go and give them a visit you will not be disappointed.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Just got back from spending a week all inclusive at this hotel (marina corfu)and found the hotel to be clean...all staff were excellent right through from the maids to bar staff, your room was cleaned every day with new towels..
There are 2 hotels separated by a little cove beach (they charge for sunbeds on the beach bit)you can use either of the two hotels to eat or drink in...

We went on the holiday with our 2 children 15 and 9 and the accommodation was a tight squeeze.. our room had a view over the pool which was ok but they had stuck in 2 single beds and 2 camp beds into a room which really was suitable for a couple.. we did complain and asked for a family room but were told that they had nothing else!! so if you are a family I would make sure you include a family room when booking or you will be left falling over each other..
There are 2 pools one main and a slightly smaller one to the side of the hotel you will also have to get up pretty early in the morning if you want a sun bed and a bit of space to sit by the pool!! god and we say the germans are bad... by 7.30am most of the beds were gone

The food in the restaurant was varied and usually there should be something you will like..except for the kids who only ate burgers chips and chicken nuggets!!! well thats kids for you...The in house entertainment is really not for me bingo and a bit of uggy uggy uggy although on 2 of the nights there was a queen tribute band and a Beatles band both were very good..

This is most definately a family hotel and when we were there there were large family groups which made it a loud and noisy place to be especially in the restaurant

both cala egos/cala dor have a variety of shops and bars although a little bit more expensive than mainland spain..

all in all it was not a bad holiday the weather was great and the food and drink were good so what more could you ask for

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We have just returned from a week long holiday in the Marina Skorpios hotel and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hotel
Very impressed with the hotel in general. Very clean and the staff are all lovely and friendly. Our room had a fantastic sea view and was kept spotless by the hard working maids who cleaned every single day.

Food
Amazing! All fresh and really tasty. Variety is brilliant , different selection twice a day. Vege section very good. I can recommend the english style cod it is the tastiest fish I have ever had! The all inclusive thing is great as you can eat as much as you like! In addition to the restuarant there are two snack bars , one inside and one outside by the pool.

Beach
Very small but is only used for this hotel and the Marina Corfu (sister hotel) so although it can get crowded in peak times there is generally enough room. I would say get a sunbed early though as these can run out by mid morning.

Pool
We didnt actually use the pool as my son preferred the beach but it looked fine , pretty big and kept clean and tidy.

Entertainment
Pretty standard stuff. Dance acts, musical acts, singers, comedian and parrot show. The Beatles act was good , as was the comedian. Not bad but could have been a bit better in my opinion. The acts didnt go on til 10.20pm which made the rest of the evening a bit dull. (although they had bingo after 9 every night)

All in all , we had a fantastic time at this hotel and would definitely recommend it. The area is nice although small. It is a short taxi drive away from Cala D'or which is a lot bigger and offers more restuarants, shops etc.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Just spent a week at the Marina Skorpios Hotel in Cala D'or.

We had a room on the 2nd floor and had a sea view which we had requested. The room was very basic with a broken chair and dressing table. However, the beds were clean, even checked the mattress and it was fine. The bathroom was very nice. However, on opening the balcony door, the noise hit us. Unbelievable amount of children in and around the pool and on the beach which the hotel had immediate access to. Don't go there in the school holidays, its a complete nightmare. There were no sunbeds available unless you got up at around 6 am and the beds on the beach which cost 4 euros a day, were not released until 10 am so you had to queue up in order to get one.

The food was reasonable with a good selection to choose from. There was a rule that gentlemen had to wear long trousers in the restaurant in the evening but this was ignored and there were men there sitting in shorts and t-shirts and trainers etc. I felt over-dressed going in there. The bar area was terrible with a pool table in it which made it extremely noisy. The entertainment which was extremely amateur and carried out by the hotel entertainment staff and took place outside around the pool. Drinks were served in paper Pepsi cups so no sipping cocktails by the pool on this holiday!

This hotel is rated as a 3 Star Plus but it is definitely not. I would not recommend it and will certainly not be going back.

Good location, situated on beach, in Cala Egos, quieter end of Cala D'or.  Local amenties good, need car to drive to Cal D'or centre or marina (well worth a visit).

Nice clean hotel, friendly staff, food above average for 3 star (although did get a bit 'samey' after 11 days), lively hotel good if you're all inclusive and want to join in, we did get a bit frustrated with all the activites but did not spoil holiday overall.  Evening entertainment good, kids club run by hotel staff seemed good (my kids wouldn't go) but kids did not appear to be signed in onarrival or departure to activites.  Small beach but lovely view, ask for sea view, otherwise you'll get view of road and slight smell of drains at times! Beach got a bit crowded, as did all the local beaches, sea also invaded with jelly fish at one point, which meant pool became crowded.  Best place to eat out  'Tonys', EXCELLENT value for money and good service.

Would recommended and possibly return but worth considering 'all inclusive' as bar prices a little expensive (2 euros most drinks)and they do 'pack ups for days out!
TIP - book direct or shop around to save money!!

Well.....did all the research on this site.......!!Absolutely spot on what eveyone says about Skorpios. What a beautiful hotel.Arrived at 7.30PM,ran upstairs hoping for a sea view, and BOY,I wasn't let down. The view was breathtaking!!Being on the top floor with a seaview is thoroughly reccommended. We spent many hours on the balcony

The entire staff are all so friendly, very helpful it puts us Brits to shame!!You see cleaners around the hotel from dawn 'til dusk, and they are constantly handing out lollies etc to the kids. The entire hotel is kept spotless all day and every day.The barstaff also were very friendly & efficient, especially patient with all the kids getting their free ice creams, lollies and drinks(10am-10pm).I know we saved a fortune here, what a fantastic idea. The barman Alfredo was brilliant and knew all the kids names, and at night you were looked after by the waiters who all worked tirelessly.A big thanks to Miguel(from Portugal)who looked after us every night.

Never stayed half board in a hotel before,so we were suprised by the good quality of food on offer for breakfast, which you could have anything from a continental to a full English breakfast including cereal.Dinner had everything from veggy food to a carvery, salad bar and all sorts of different main courses including plenty of fish

The nights entertainment started off a bit ropey, but got a lot better as time went on.Must sees are the beatles tribute band, the magic show, the boys tribute band(called 4bidden),the american comedian and the soul tribute band. Avoid the parrot show at all costs. They were more interested in putting parrots on the kids shoulders to take photos and charge people 10euros.An absolute rip off!!!

The marina skorpios entertainment team were excellent with both kids and adults!!
Marco(Mr Bingo Bongo) and Caroline were brilliant and put great effort into keeping us entertained. The kids did everything from water sports, boules to killer pool...they loved it all.

The adults can try their hands at all sorts...from water sports in the pool to archery, shooting etc and even bingo for all to play

The kids club was very good. All the kids enjoyed it and were very well looked after.

Plenty of space  around the hotel for people to relax and unwind which includes two nice terraces and a big lounge in the hotel. The pool is lovely too, with a small one for the toddlers. One drawback....get up early for a decent sunbed and space by the pool!!Near to the pool their is a bar and  outside cafe/restaraunt.That's nice &clean too, which we found reasonably priced.(About 4euros for a large pizza)

The beach was lovely too.Small but intimate even though it was a public beach.Kept very clean by the staff.Only spent one day on the beach because we all became pool bums..

I would recommend the hotel Marina Skorpios to any body....will deffo be going back again. We all loved it and we were all upset having to leave and come home. Thanks to EVERYBODY at the Marina Skorpios for a brill holiday. Will be e mailing the hotel to say thanks too!!!!

We arrived back home yesterday afternoon and all I can say is that I've just been looking at prices for next year!

The Marina Skorpios is situated on a beautiful public beach (although the public don't seem to go there, just the hotel guests) which is shared with the Hotel Marina Corfu. The view from our hotel room was just stunning. Infact, the most beautiful view that I've ever had the pleasure of waking up to. The bedrooms are well presented, clean and spacious with a very nice ensuite bathroom. One thing that I would have to recommend though is that you ask for a sea view on the top floor. Those who didn't have a sea view unfortunately had the fairly dismal view of the street. Each room has a kettle, cups and I think they left some tea bags, but we'd taken our own. You will not be able to make a cup of tea from the tap water as it is pure salt, so walk up to Spar and buy a big bottle of water.
We stayed half board and the breakfast was especially good. Full English every morning with a chioce of fried, boiled or scrambled eggs, bacon that wasn't covered in fat. Pretty good in my book. There was also cerial, toast, bread and fruit. For the evening meal there was a roast every night, or your choice of fish, vegetarian choices, and usually a pasta dish of some sort.

The only thing that I would say that I didn't like about the hotel was the prices of drinks at the bar. ?7.50 for a jack daniels and coke is ridiculous, so we went out every night instead.
The hotel is very much aimed at families with children. This did not bother us in the slightest as the day time activities for the children did not take over the whole hotel. However, if you really do not want a hotel with children then this would not be for you.

A small downside - The drains outside the hotel absolutely stink. You can't smell it from the hotel, but it's very unpleasant to walk past. Also, do watch your footing on some of the pavements in Cala Egos as they're not entirely safe in parts.

We stayed in room 425 (highly recommended as we believe we had the best view in the whole hotel). The only drawback to this is that we were directly above the bar and entertainment, so it could get fairly noisey at night. If you're a party animal then you will want to venture out in to the town as entertainment downstairs finishes at about midnight. Cala Egos has several bars and restaurants, our favourite bar being Sparkles. A 5 minute walk from the hotel with the most friendly staff you will ever meet. They have a big screen with sports until the nightly karaoke begins from about 10-1am, then from 1-4 it is a night club. As I said, the staff are wonderful. Very friendly, and if you're good to them then they'll be good to you - free shots! However if a guy called Sebastian at Sparkles offers you a shot of Jagermeister and you DON'T like being put off alcohol for 3 days, I would graciously decline!

Restaurant wise, I would recommend a place called Beatriz (I think that's what it was called - it's opposite Bar K.O. and Bogarts). It's a little more expensive than the other restaurants in town, but the quality of the food and service only goes to give good reason for the price. A little taste of the high-life! Tony's bar is also good if you're not quite sure what you fancy as they have a bit of everything, and it is all freshly prepared and tasty.

Lastly, I would just say that everyone in Cala Egos/Cala D'or are just the most friendly people I have met in a long time. Here's hoping they'll all be there next year.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Overall view - Really lovely location and hotel is fantastic!!

We have just returned from our holiday having stayed at the Marina Skorpios.
We were really impressed by the hotel, very clean and very well presented. The staff were very friendly and helpful and would always greet you whenever they met you!

Rooms:
The rooms were clean, towels changed daily and bedding weekly. The air conditioning was good and easily controlled in your room. The only problem we found with the rooms was that there was no exhaust fan in the bathroom. Secondly, the water in Mallorca has a very high mineral content and tastes salty.  We advise you use bottled water (very cheap £1.00 for 5 ltr) for brushing your teeth.

Food:
Food was excellent and a really good choice. Breakfast included fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurts and a full English breakfast of a similar standard to what you may expect in Britain. Also included were fresh pastries, rolls, breads, choice of juices, cold milk, tea and coffee.
Dinner was buffet style - eat as much as you like! Dishes were being continually replenished, so you still had a good choice whether you were there first or not. Starters included a salad bar, seafood, pates, cold meats and fresh soups. The main course always included a carvery, along with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options and a children's menu. Puddings included cakes, pastries, usually a hot pudding, cheese board and fruit. Drinks were NOT included with dinner.
Drinks, ice cream / ice-lollies and crisps for children were free throughout the day, so the kids are well catered for!!

Evening Entertainment:
We were a little sceptical about what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised. Children's' disco, followed by family entertainment, e.g. magician, Beatles tribute band etc. The children really enjoyed taking part in the kids clubs, which were very well organised by First Choice, so parents could relax without having to worry.

There were a selection of excursions on offer, but obviously these are not cheap. Worth doing one!

Cala Egos is lovely with a variety of shops, restaurants and bars, if you do fancy eating out or just going for a stroll. Cala D'or is not that far and is only 5 mins in taxi costing only 5 euros. The Marina is worth a visit just to check out the luxury boats on display and maybe stop off for a drink. It is walking distance from Cala Egos via the short cuts.

Swimming Pool:
There were two pools. The smaller one was very shallow and perfect for toddlers. But the big one was full of children, so there was no room for a quiet swim, although good for water games with the family. Usual race occurred for sun beds, so you had to get up early to get one. But don't despair. try again by lunchtime, when some sun beds seem to free up!

Beach:
Similarly to the pool, people marked their spot early in the morning as long as you were not fussed about having an umbrella, you could find a spot on the beach. Most people took their own parasols (cheap to purchase locally). Also, inflatables were available to buy cheaply at local shops. We found that even if you had not brought any beach accessories, there were plenty of shops nearby to buy these. The beach/sand itself was quite clean, although it was spoilt by the liberal sprinkling of cigarette butts, which is quite a shame!

The sea was lovely, quite clean and warm, and shallow, so it was quite safe for the children. The views overlooking the cove were really pretty, especially from the terrace, just outside the bar area. A nice place to relax, enjoy a drink and read.

Overall, we were very pleased with our holiday and would definitely like to revisit the place and hotel one day. Rumour has it that First Choice are pulling out from this particular resort!

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We have just come back from the best holiday yet!! there is so much to do including excurstions to aqualand, caves of drac, marine land, pirates and many more. we only went to aqualand as the trips are quite expensive.Aqualand was the biggest water park in europe and definately is worth the money there is something for every one, even if you are a wimp!!

The hotel was very clean.you could see cleaners 24/7!  The cleaners were all very freindly and gave kids lolly pops! If you are under 13 you can have free crisps, drinks, ice lollys and mini tubs of ice cream. The bar men were very kind and freindly, however speak quite clearly because some of their englsh wasnt very clear for smaller kids..

We spent alot of time at a neighbouring harbour which was a 5 minuite walk and was not discovered by many other families so was a good place to relax in peace and quite and also good for swimmimg( for stronger swimmers-water very deep!) our beach did get quite crowded but was very pleasent and the water was very clean and warm but beware of jellyfish as i go stung myself!! o nooo! the staff are so lovely there was a man cleaning the steps and sweeping sand off and stops while u go past bless him! we didnt go in the pool that much,as you might aswell go in the sea because it was less crowded and warmer.

The weather was very hot, but not too sticky. It was very nice to go into the hotel after being in the sun as it had good air conditioning but bring some pjs as it does get cold at night believe it or not!

If u get too hot the best place to head to is the terrace overlooking the sea in the shade. we are def goin back !!! WICKED!!  We really didnt want to come back home so i advice you to stay 2 weeks if u want to get a tan and like exploring places and sitting on the beach!!! we definatly recommend it to everyone and have a really good time if you are going.

just got back from Hotel Marina Skorpios. brilliant!!
said to be a 3* hotel but more like 4/5*.went with first choice on an allocation on arrival in cala d'or;didn't quite expect this for a 3*hotel and for the price.Didnt end up quite in Cala d'or but minutes away from it in cala egos.(cost between 5 - 550 euros in taxi(costs more in night)
The hotel itself is situated next to a small, beautiful beach (between both the marina Skorpios&corfu).didn't go on the beach much, spent most of time by the pool.(make sure your up early for sunbed war though - this is my only complaint about the hotel).

One of the best things about this hotel was the cleanliness. maids work day and night there cleaning the sparkling floors.maid service daily: change towels daily, even change the bed&wash cups out(kettle&cups in room).
We went half board and the meals there were lovely, there is a wide variety of food available(buffet style)eg - breakfast inc:fried-breakfast, crossants, cereals, yogurts&fruit etc.
dinner-Carvery available(beef,chicken etc)&more(eg chips,salad&cakes).
The hotel staff are very friendly and very helpful.there is always someone available at reception 24hrs a day.

PLACES TO EAT IN - Zocalo(by the marina -pop into smugglers&jolly rodger for a drink),Aquamarina(centre of Cala d'or)

ENTERTAINMENT - Eden Paradise(good karoke -on the way to Cala Ferrera),Hollywood bar,Dougans&tropical gardens in Cala D'or centre.
HOTEL ENTERTAINMENT - pretty good went a few times saw brilliant boy band.

SO BOOK IT NOW!!YOU WILL REGRET IT OTHERWISE!!what you waiting for........BOOK IT!!!

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Just returned from a week at the Marina Skorpios.Weather really hot! Hotel fab, kept very clean. Beds made everyday & new towels left. Entertainment was quite good, plenty of entertainment for children & adults in the day. Lovely bay, the water was very cold! but spoilt by litter floating around. Pool was a good size, the only downside is having to queue for the sunbeds every morning. On the beach the sunbeds cost 4 euros.

Food was good, plenty of choice, but we chose to eat out most nights. cal d'or only 5 minutes in taxi(5 euros). Still  plenty of bars & eating places in Cala E'gos, just a bit quieter.
Pirate show is very good, but is a long way away (we got told 50 mins by the rep, more like 2 hours). Not good if your child is travel sick.  Ferrera market was ok, most of the same stalls, but some lovely shops. About 15-20mins on the bus.
Marina lovely , about 15 minutes walk, plenty of bars etc

All together a fab holiday, would stay in Cala Egos again.

This hotel is ideal, its super clean with maid service daily, new towels, bedding etc.

The food is good and varied.

The beach is lovely, absolutely beautiful cove and ideal for children.  The pool seems okay, a nice size but only went once as spent most time on the beach catching fish.

The kids club is great, entertainment for kids and all the family is excellent - acts on strage every night.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

This hotel is excellent.

It is very clean - you see cleaners cleaning everywhere at all times of the day.  The rooms are cleaned every day too.

The deputy manageress is around all the time, is very friendly, chattng to you at breakfast, greeting you for dinner and even joining in with the mini disco.

The food is of a very high standard. There is a very good selection for breakfast, fruit, pastries, cooked, cereal.

There is a big selection for dinner too, catering for everyone.

The free crisps, ice creams, ice lollies and drinks are excellent for the children and saved us a fortune!

The room are quite a good size as there were 4 of us, with our bed, our daughters and a cot for our other daughter and there was still enough room and plenty of storage space.

A real bonus is the fridge in the room at no extra cost - this was great for cooling a couple of bears and chocolate for the children!

There is a nice size pool and it was nice to see a life guard there every day, which is quite unusual abroad.

The hotel is right on the beach, but beware of the jelly fish, my daughter got a sting on her foot!

The only down side are the steps, you have to use them to get to the beach, the pool or the kids club (which is held in the sister hotel opposite).  It was a bit of a pain with the pram, but the location of the hotel looking down on the beach was gorgeous.

I emailed the hotel the week before asking for a sea view on a high floor and this request was met.  A word of warning if you are at the back, it is a bit smelly - drains I think!

If you have booked a holdiay here, I am sre you will not be disappointed - we will go back one day.

We stayed at the Skorpios Marina 5 years ago and felt that it was time to stay again,as it has an excellent location, stunning sceneary and a good standard of accomadation and always thought of it as the best hotel we"d stayed in.

We were not dissapointed this time around either although there are a few things to be pointed out.KIDS!!! they are everywhere, although this is a family hotel we expected there to be a few, so we booked when they would be in school but there were apparently 123 staying there at the same time as us,so be warned during half term!.

The staff are exteamly friendly, nothing is to much bother, and the hotel is kept clean and tidy. The food served in the restraunt can be a bit hit or miss as the food is not labelled and you dont always know if your eating beef, pork or fish (be warned) although its all tasty and of a good standard and always clean.

Eating out in Cala Egos is cheaper than Cala D"or and the Sparkles bar near the hotel offers good live acts as well as great cocktails.

I would urge you to visit this hotel this year as next year it will be going international,so it will be taken over by German and Spanish holiday makers, and will no longer be a british hotel, which will be a real shame as this is a truely wonderful hotel.

the hotel marina skorpios was excellent, everywhere was spotlessly clean, the staff were friendly, the food was fantastic with a carvery every night. The hotel was family orientated and children were well catered for being able to get their own ice creams and drinks! The hotel is right by a cove where there is a lovely sandy beach and the melon man comes twice a day with fresh fruit. The swimming pool was too small for the amount of guests at the hotel but we were quite happy sitting on the beach. The resort of calo egos is quiet and ideal for families you must go to the bamboo bar and sit and watch the world go by!

All in all an excellent hotel and resort we would certainly go back there.

What can i say a superb holiday.
the hotel was right on the beach which is  a cove and the water is very mild and very warm.
and right behind the beach is the swimming pool and poolside bar and restaruant.
providing cheap food although our kidsa didnt need this as they got free ice cream crisps and drinks all day.
in the evening there is  amini disco ever night for the kids, and the stage is right beside the playground , and then the adult entertainment comes on, but the kids can play right beside you whilst this is on and are always in view of you.
there are ample buses, but a taxi into main calador is no more than £5 return whch is about £1 more than a bus, superb place to visit full of shops rstaurnats arcades beaches.
the hotel itself is kept superbly clean by the staff and there are always welcomign and helpfull, if you have children under 10 this holiday is a must as they never have time to get borad.

We have just returned from a holiday in the Marina Skorpios Hotel in Cala Egos Nr Cala D'or. We had a lovely week, fab weather and would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a nice quiet week away overlooking a beautiful cove. Hotel standards were very high, cleanliness was first rate, choice of food was great and the staff were always pleasant and very helpful. It is a small resort but it maintains a very informal atmosphere where people seen to get to know each other quite easily, we made lots of friends both young and old. We went into Cala D'or a couple of times and that is a very pretty place to visit but overall for the week we were there we were quite happy on the beach and in the sea in the lovely cove just outside our hotel.

Have come home really relaxed and feel that we have had a lovely break before the onset of winter in England

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We have just returned from probably our best holiday ever - a real chill out week .

Fantastic and highly recommended to all families with youngish children.

We booked last minute just the week before in fact but had made sure we read all the reviews on this website first and we just hoped and prayed that the holiday lived up to its reputation and it did - and more.

Hotel - very clean (cleaners are seen virtually 24hrs a day), very cool, staff very friendly, towels changed daily, large variety of food every day - something to suit everybody, lovely cooked breakfast, fridge in the room is a life saver for all the water and beer thats needed!! The air conditioning was also vey welcome. The view from the room overlooking the sea was just gorgeous.

Hotel entertainment was ok - a different act every night - the kids loved it tho.
They loved the playground too

All inclusive (soft drinks, plates of crisps, ice lollies and tubs of ice cream) for the kids is an amazing idea - I thought that it maybe too tempting for the kids with all those free goodies on offer for 12 hours a day but they were so busy playing in the pool or sea that they didnt use it nearly as much as I thought they would - but it was definately a money saver none the less

Hotel location - right on the beach in its own little cove only shared with its sister hotel Marina Corfu - very safe for the children. It was a little crowded but what do you expect in the summer holidays eh! We used to sit just by the wall (on the top beach) between the pool and the beach so that we could keep an eye on the kids whether they were in the pool or the sea. The pool area was very crowded but when youve got the beach to sit on who needs to sit there eh!

2 minutes walk into Cala Egos for the local Spa - to get your water and beer for the room and the little gift shops and bars - Recommend Bogarts bar for the evenings - good entertainment and a fab games room down stairs for the kids - pool table football table etc - and a free tshirt for every 8 drinks you buy - we nearly needed a new case for ours!!!

It really was an absolutely excellent holiday and we met some lovely, lovely families - we were able to give the kids some freedom which they loved cos everywhere was so safe and we will most definately be going back  - if you have booked to go then enjoy and Im so sure you will. Wish I was coming too!!!

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

The hotel is lovely, you have a beach and pool just outside. The beach is smallish, but after seeing the largest beach on the resort in Cala d'or its a good side. The hotel is in Cala d'egos, which is a 10 min drive in taxi, train or bus to Cala d'or. I would suggest either taxi or bus, as if the party is more than two people this works out the cheapest.

The food is good at breakfast time, at tea time we found it slightly harder to find something we liked as we are not big meat in sauce eaters, however they do have about 4 dishes for veggies laid on. The rooms are good, fridge, air con and a TV. The TV is free and can be manually turned over and up in volume. The view wasnt to good from our room. We were on the entrace sode to the hotel and had a view of the back of another hotel. Watch out for jelly fish in the water and being able to get a sun bed. We went 2 weeks before the school holidays and it was sometimes inpossible to get a sunbed. I would NOT go through the school holidays as i think it would be very busy as the pool and beach are shared with the hotel next door.

The entertainment we saw was OK, although we spent many a night at Bar KO which had cocktails half price before 9pm.

Myself and daughter got to sample the local private hospital for 2 nights as we picked up a tummy bug which was going around the resort. If you do have to go to hospital for a stay and i hope you dont, take your own food, theirs is terrible, although the staff are friendly.
Went to see Pirates, would recommend upgrade to quater deck, the show was great, the dancers had the mens pulse racing, the pirates the womens and the kids will just love it. My parents went to the 'dance and entertainment' show they upgraded and said it was brill.

For the money we spent on this holiday i would say it was well worth it, but wouldnt go back again, as we all said we missed being able to stroll along the beach in the evening.

After booking our holiday we looked on the website and read other people's reviews and I have to say that they were all spot on.

The food was excellent althought at times the dinners could be a bit on the cold side but there was a microwave to heat it up, I am a very fussy eater and sometimes I ate from the kids buffet because there was nothing that I fancied in the adult bit, although there was lots to choose from. We went for a week and that was enough.

The hotel it's self is amazing, when booking ask for a sea view. The rooms are nice and spacious although there is not a double bed, its 2 single beds pushed together. The rooms are cleaned everyday and the whole hotel and pool area is spotless, the pool toliets are cleaned all the time and you are forever seeing cleaners around. The hotel staff are all very friendly and very helpful and speak very good english. The entertainment at the hotel was ok but nothing to write home about, we went in the middle of september so there was not many children there, but quite a few toddlers so there was plenty of sunbeds all day but I can imgaine it being rather hetic if you were to go when the kids are on school holidays.

To go out you are better of getting a taxi to cala d'or good for shopping and great a better selection of bars. Would highly recommed that you go on the starfish boat trip, we went on the 4 hour one and it was amazing and only 16 euro's. Take a trip to the marian and see all the wonderful huge expensive boats.

If you are thinking of booking to stay here then you will have no regrets, I would definatly go back here as it is great value for money.

If you are going have an excellent time.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

I particularly liked the Hotel Melia Cala d'Or because it combines intimate small size (only 49 rooms) with 4-star luxury. The hotel consists of three or four low-rise blocks, none of which is more than three stories high, set in beautiful gardens. It is a hotel well worth considering for anybody who dislikes the "concrete jungle" of high-rise multi-storey hotels so prevalent elsewhere in Spain.

I do not know how old the hotel is, but I would guess that it might be only two years or so. The garden has already started to mature, and is an extremely attractive feature of the hotel. There are beautiful Bourganvilea plants growing on a pergola along the length of each side of the swimming pool. These are already colourful, but I suspect that they will be even better next year when the Bourganvilea has grown further.

The builders of the hotel managed to preserve a number of pine trees in the garden, and these provide a mixture of sunshine and cool shade. The hotel has provided a number of small tables and comfortable upright chairs (as an alternative to the ubiquitous sunloungers) on the lawns; these are sufficiently light to be movable if you want to keep in the shade (or keep in the sunshine, according to your taste), as the sun moves in the sky.

Accommodation is on the basis of Bed and Breakfast. Although it is possible to dine at the hotel (approximately 28 euros =£20 per head), most people prefer to walk into Cala d'Or to find a restaurant. This is indeed a pleasant task, with a wide choice of restaurants available, only 5 to 10 minutes walk from the hotel. (Easy enough for most people in reasonable health, but not recommended for anybody with heart problems, because of the hilly nature of the town). Many of the restaurants are open-air, and you can sit at your table and watch the world walk by, as you eat. If you are prepared to walk a bit further (20 minutes from the hotel), you can go to one of the many fine open-air restaurants overlooking the marina.

Breakfast at the hotel provides a wide range of choice. We usually started with a plateful of fruits in season, which in July were strawberries, cherries, sliced fresh pineapples, melons, watermelons, etc, backed up with a few dried apricots, raisns, etc. We washed this down with a glass of Cava, provided free of charge, as much as you want, as part of the breakfast. I would then go and see Carlos, who would cook me some bacon and eggs, or an omlette, to my instructions. Then I might have some Spanish sausage and Parma ham. Susan seemed to prefer the cakes and breakfast tartlets.

The hotel has a table tennis table, and we were the only people that wanted to use it. So we could play as much as we liked. The table was on a slight slope, so you had to get used to playing either uphill or downhill. Once you got used to this concept, you could have a lot of fun with it. We tried outdoor badminton, also provided by the hotel, but we found that the least breeze would make the game difficult to play. We also had a lot of fun with the hotel croquet set. The lawns were a bit rough for this game, but we managed.

The hotel attracted quite a large number of young couples with babies or toddlers between the age of one and three. The parents were, without exception, good ones who knew how to keep children pleasantly occupied so that they were happy and didn't make a disturbance. But perhaps I cannot recommend the hotel for anybody who is intolerant of babies occasionally crying.

Overall, the Melia Cala d'Or is a lovely hotel, which I can recommend.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

The resort appears to be split into two areas, the main town centre and the marina.
Both cater foodwise for everyone although the marina is possibly a bit more upmarket than the town centre and a touch more expensive.

In 11 nights we only had one bad meal and the food is very affordable and tasty on the whole.

The beaches/coves in the main town are very small and crowded and this makes a pool in your complex a must.

The Melia hotel was superb, the best hotel in the area I would say and in a great location (5 mins walk to town centre, 15 mins walk to Marina) but also far enough away from the noise.

Staff were friendly and the service was excellent as was the food and all the facilities in general.

Rooms were spacious and very clean and whilst its not the cheapest hotel in the resort it was money well spent in our view.

I visited this hotel back in September 2003 and was so impressed I took my in-laws back with us in June of this year.

The accomodation is first class, the staff so attentive and friendly.

My mother in law and I even ventured to the Spa rooms and experienced an excellent massage and health session.

The main attraction for me, which may not appeal to others is the fact that the hotel mainly caters for adults and couples with small babies, so the atmosphere tends to be very relaxed and calm.

The food is also excellent with a good wine list.

Hostal Oasis D'Or - Cala D'Or

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We have just returned for Cala Dor which we booked a week before we went. We were looking for a cheep 2 weeks away.  We have always gone for small family run hotels as opposed to the larger ones available.  The Oasis Dor is no exception.  It is a family run hotel and is very basic but spacious clean and very friendly.  The rooms are serviced daily.

The breakfasts are very interseting there is no buffet you have to have what you are given but you were given something different every day and the meals were very well cooked.  If you have any special requirements then as long as you inform the staff they will try and get you what every you want within reason. The hotel is only 2 star but I think it deserves more.  There is a nice swimming pool that never gets crowded and its very private.  There is ever a fight for the beds and there is no towels on beds before dawn.  There is a snack bar and drinks bar and althought we did not use this service much as we like to cruse of an evening to different restaurants (of which there are pleanty) the meals that we saw cooked looked very nice.  The hotel is only 2 minuets walk from the main beach and 5 minuets walk to all the shops and restaurants in the town.

Now that I have sung the paises of this unique hotel there were some down sides, but they can be overcome.  So here goes, the hotel is on the main drag into town and on the outskirts of a residential area. There is a problem with local youth crusing around in their cars and scooters playing loud music and reving their bikes so if you are unlucky enough to be in the front of the hotel and an early to be person it might get you down a little, on saying that they usually go home before midnight adn it goes a little quieter. we were in the back of the building and had the noise of the local pet dogs that would bark at any little noise and once one started they all started.  Then theres the wheely bins being emptied from the hotels in the area in the early hours of the morning every day and as they are at home its not easy to do this job quietly.

The room we were in was below the water system that was housed on the roof above the room.  Every time someone turned on a tap, showered or flushed the toilet then there was a a loud noise from the water pump that sounded like a fog horn for a few minuets which was fine during the day but in the early hours of the morning is a little disturbing,  I don't think that this is a problem in all rooms of the hotel.  The problem is that, because there is no double glazing and no Air con in the hotel then windows have to be left open because of the heat so you get all the noise.  What I did in the end was to buy some cotton wool for my ears because I could not find any ear plugs and this seemed to help.  Last but not least there are 2 kareokee bars at the end of the road that are loud but on saying that they do close at midnignt so you have to either stay out yourself or put some ear plugs in.

Please don't be put off by the last noise comments because dispite this I would still go back there but would buy good ear plugs and ask foor a room overlooking the pool so I could get some better sleep.

ive recently returned form the oasis d 'or with 2 of my friends , we stayed for 10 nights in august and had a great time , if you're looking for a quiet break with somewhere to crash , this is the ideal place , theres a reasonably large swimming pool , with a bar area , which also serves food up until 5:30 pm  , there was no fighting for sunbeds whilst we were there , in short if you just want a place to sleep at night , and arent fussy about luxury , and just want a place to relax during the day , then this is probably the place for you ,

everyboy is friendly , and there were times when it felt like we were staying in our own private villa , as we were alone in the pool , oh yeah , and the beach couldnt be closer , cala gran beach is a stones throw away . look out for the fruit guy , oi oi .

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We only booked this holiday 1 week before departure, but still paid top prices.

On arrival at the Oasis D'or, we met the owner and asked for a safety deposit key, only to be told that there wasn't one and if we wanted to give any money or valuables to her, she would lock them in her safe and give them to us whenever we wanted !

She showed us our room which was on the 2nd floor overlooking the pool. We were really shocked that the room was so basic and old fashioned. I also did not know that bed & breakfast accomodation does not include anything like a kettle etc. We saw our rep the 1st afternoon and asked to move, Thomson wanted £150 admin fee to move us. Rep told us we had paid as much as it cost to stay in a 3* hotel anyway. She also told us 2 other parties had left the Oasis D'or this season, for much the same reasons. There were no other Thomson Hotels available in Cala D'or, so we decided to stick it out and make the most of it, rather than perhaps end up in a not so nice resort.

On the good side, the room was clean, the beds were made daily, although the sheets were never changed and we did get clean towels daily but these were very poor and left you covered in white bits ! The room was unbearably hot at night, no air conditioning of course. The shower was a joke, you could get warm water out of the taps, but turn the shower on and water was scalding hot. We did ask the owner to look at it, if he did it didnt make any difference, so we just gave up in the end. This was our 5th visit to Majorca, 1st time in Cala D'Or and we could not recommend this Hostal. There are so many better places to stay !

We thought that the lack of security was a major factor, one we were not warned about at all. There is also no facility to change money or travellers cheques, so that means you have to carry your passport with you to go to an exchange place - beware you can pay very high commissions !

The family are very friendly and the food is good - although I did get a very bad upset stomach for which I blame a chicken sandwich. The location is great, just across the road from Cala Gran beach. The place could be so much better, but is in serious need of updating. Even their own advertising leaflets on the reception desk were printed in 1973 describing the Oasis as 'luxurious accomodation' which it may have been 30 years ago but it certainly isn't now. There was nothing for children at all, so some could get bored.

Resort - We thought Cala D'or was lovely, so many restaurants you don't know where to go for the best. We did eat in the centre, but you are bombarded by people trying to get you in their restaurant, at every step, you have people giving you cards and offereing you freebies, so that can be a bit of a pain after a while.

The marina was about a 15 min walk away, or you can get on the little train for 3 euros. The marina was gorgeous with some lovely restaurants overlooking it. We were pleasantly surprised that it cost no more to eat here than in the centre, it was very relaxing and the sevice was better. We also found Walshies did good food and Mangos Tapas Bar in the centre was gorgeous. Cala Gran beach was very nice, but very busy, we were told 7euros for a sunbed, so we just bought a lilo and took it with us.

Tropical Garden was good, some good tribute bands on. Personally didint like Hollywood Bar mainly as the toilets were very smelly!

I would go to Cala D'or again, but definitly not to the Oasis D'or.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

This was my 4th year in going, as I have previously stayed slightly out of the town in a private villa, but I was extremely pleased with the hotel.

Here's my top tip though: FANS.
I knew it would be hot in the room with no air conditioning, so I nipped down to homebase where they sold little fans that clip onto desks for £4.99. I got 2 that went in the luggage easily - and they were a godsend! I don't think we would have got to sleep without them. The hotel was lovely, just a bit of A/C would've helped, but I guess thats what you get when you spend a bit less. If you follow my advice, make sure you take an english adaptor plug that you can plug 2 plugs into. I say this as by the bed there was only one plug socket, so we had to move one bed to the other side of the room so we could each have a fan going!!

The breakfast I found to be fine, as its hard to eat well when its so hot. Some cereals or yoghurt, bacon sandwich or beans on toast set me up nicely for the day!

The brochure misled me into thinking there were limited bar snacks etc. But they actually served alot. Many drinks, ice creams and a full cafe-style menu, you could get steaks or paella, although we never tried it!

The thing I loved about the Oasis D'or was the quiet. You are right in the centre, but it was always so quiet at the pool, with nice friendly couples who were just relaxing. No loud children's entertainment which I found great!

The family that run the hotel are very friendly and do a lot to make you feel welcome. Also their son is the spitting image of Enrique Iglesias!! Really! It was uncanny. Also very good on his lunch break when he'd get into his shorts and jump into the pool to cool off!!!! (Ladies trust me - go stay at this hotel!!!!)

Do the starfish glass bottomed boat trip - but don't forget the sea sickness tablets!! The sea was rather choppy and I was unprepared!

Also, its just 3 euros to go on the little land train - takes an hour to go round the town and you can get on/off anywhere - very useful

If you like the beach, Cala Gran is minutes from the hotel, but I think the next one Cala Esmerelda looked better (could walk or land train - not far) it was smaller and cosier and looked really nice.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

we spent a week a the oasis dor in july 2004, when we booked this holiday we knew that it was a hostal and not a 3star hotel however the oasis dor is an EXCELLENT and CHEAP hotel in possibly the best location in cala dor!

when we arrived we were taken to a room at the back of the hotel overlooking the pool, this room was approx 5 metres square with 3 full size beds in it, no camp beds here!
to solve the problem of the heat we took small fans purchased at asda for £5 each ,we also took a small travel kettle this proved very usefull and only cost £5.

we usually have lunch in the town but this year we stayed by the pool and used the excellent poolside bar menu,my daughter ruth claimed that marios pizzas were the best in cala dor!

the breakfast in the hotel was very good, normally sausage and toast or egg and bacon not a lot but enough and very well cooked, the rooms are always kept very clean and the towels are changed daily.
I feel it fair to mention something that happened while we were enjoying an excellent lunchtime meal the owner Mario came to us full of apologies because he had overcharged me by one euro!when did this last happen to you on holiday in spain or anywhere else?

The one thing that you find with the oasis dor is the friendly atmosphere from all the staff who really make you feel at home, that is why we have booked already for july 2005!

I consider this report to be a fair and accurate review of a most excellent hotel

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

The Hotel was excellent. Being called a Hostal is missleading, and is worth more than 2 stars.

The rooms are small but it is all you need really. They are cleaned every day with fresh towels, and every morning serve a good breakfast. Ranging from Bacon sausage and eggs to cereal and yoghurt. The service is excellent within the family run business. Everyone is friendly and will stop and talk with you. Pool area is excellent, very clean and a great sun spot with lots of sun loungers for everyone. The Hotel is just a less than minute walk to the beach and a short stroll to the town centre, and for a longer stroll you can see the beautiful marina. Cala D'or area is excellent, has great restraunts and shops with a lovely beach and lovely walks. I have visited many times and will continue to do so.

I highly recommend this Hotel and the Cala D'or area. Great for couples and young families.
