Hotel Cala Ferrera - Alcudia

Operator and Date: September 2005

Opinion submitted in July 2006 by : Beth Alexander 19, 48, 69

Resort Rating: Excellent

Accommodation Rating: Very Good

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

I had a really enjoyable holiday here. First and foremostly, the views from the hotel pool area are breath taking, right onto the Cala Ferrera cove and the beautiful clear blue water.
The food is delicious. Every night there was a large selection, meat, pasta and a huge salad, fresh fruit and cakes.
The staff in the hotel are very friendly. There are daytime activities, such as water polo and darts and night time activities including flamenco and live music.
The only down side is that the rooms are not air conditioned. This shouldn't be a probablem if you go late September - May.
There were lots of trips organised by the rep including a day trip to Palma and the Caves of Drach. There is also a local noddy bus which you can take to other resorts and the town centre.

Carabella's Apartments - Alcudia

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

This year was the first time we had returned to the Carabela Apartments in 6 years. Gladly nothing had changed No Highrises, No loud music after 12 am.

The resort of Puerto de Alcudia is the perfect family resort. The beach stretches for 9 miles in a large arc (hence it's a bay)with a beach front promanade for most of it's length. At various points along the prom are top notch beach bars and restuarants all serving food and drink enabling tourists to have a good meal and drink without going near the one main road that runs through Alcudia (important for families with small children).

The apartments are all privately owned and admittedly they could do with modernising, but that is down to the individual owners and I feel it is the location of the apartments and not the apartment themselves that you pay for. In previous reviews I have read of noise and swimmers in the pool during the night, we never experienced this, unless the guy was refering to us as we met another family from Newcastle who had a poolside apartment and we did have a couple of late nights socialising on their patio (Many apologies if you were there between 29th July - 6th August). We will definately be returning to the apartments if we can find a vacant apartment next summer,(as the saying goes it's like rocking horses shat to find a empty apartment in the school holidays).

The Harbour has been developed since our last holiday and is first rate with nice resturants (expensive 120 euros for a family of 4 + baby) and bars. The resort has a decent aquapark close by which is worth a day out, and I recommend using the supermarket on the way, to buy the daily neccesities (bread, water, milk etc)as resort prices are a bit over the top.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Having read many reviews I still wasn't prepared for Alcudia.
My family stayed in the Carabella Apartments in Puerto D'Alcudia and whilst the apartments are in an ideal location (directly overlooking the beach), they are extremely noisy.
It has a good size pool and a separate toddler one but it does not get closed off at night so be prepared to be woken up at 2,3 or 4 am frequently with late night LOUD swimmers !!!.

As for the beach itself - although it gently shelves and is therefore great for small children who can go out quite far very safely, the water contains an awful seaweed, a huge amount of it actually.
It is black and looks almost like the bark used for gardens and it lets off a disgusting smell many times during the day.
The smell is akin to rotten eggs and you could be forgiven for thinking there was raw sewage about - there isn't but the smell is awful just the same.
The local council invades the beach every moring at 6.30am with tractors etc and takes large amounts of the stuff away but it doesnt help very much.
Dogs are also allowed on the beach and the mess they leave behind isn't always cleaned up.

There are some great places to eat however, Sa Bota in the marina is excellent.
Expect to pay around 65-70 Euros for a family of four to eat out at night.
Good English breakfasts are about 5 Euros each.
The Pago Pago is one to avoid, the service is awful and its very expensive - the meat on the kebabs is not always cooked through either.
I have to say I was not impressed with Alcudia at all, it looks quite rough and brash, the beach is disappointing and so is nightlife with regard to a family.

One fantastic point however, We went on a 2 hour cruise with Premier Cruises and it was brilliant, well worth it and I would definately recommend it as one not to miss

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Flew out to Mallorca with Easyjet and arranged Carabella apartments through friends.

Apartments lovely, right on the beach. Pool area quiet with plenty of sun loungers and a decent sized pool. Resort lovely and people very friendly.

Found a fantastic bar called Smugglers just next to Hotel Piscis. Food excellent, happy hour 7 - 9pm, fab cocktails and really lovely staff. Dead reasonable too. Bar has a great atmosphere and has a lovely terrace for those sun worshippers!

There are plenty of restaurants round the port area & I would recommend the new Tex Mex, if they seat you upstairs there's a cracking view of the beach.

I'd definately go back to Alcudia.

Hotel Ciudad Blanca - Alcudia

Operator and Date: BMI  & Alpha Rooms - Aug 2006

Opinion submitted in September 2006 by : S Weir - London (48,42,13,12)

Resort Rating: Very Good

Accommodation Rating: Excellent

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We booked the flight through BMI flying from Heathrow then booked the hotel separately with Alpha Rooms. No problems doing this and probably saved a lot of money.  We decided to pay for All-Inclusive once we arrived at the hotel and again it was probably cheaper booking it all this way.

The hotel is excellent, very clean and definately of a high standard.  Daily towel service available for a small refundable deposit. One bedroom apartment was of a high standard.

Very good choice in dining room buffet plus an outside pizza buffet and evening barbecue in addition.  Hotel entertainment was pretty good and the entertainment team worked very hard. Waiters and Waitress's very friendly, especially Rebeka who made us feel very welcome.

Beach was very clean, sun beds were an additional cost.

Alcudia resort was very busy, with lots of bars, restaurants if you prefer self catering.

Our only problem was that the hotel, as mentioned in other reviews is mainly German occupied with other nationalities as well so our two teenage children struggled to make friends.

Inca Market every Wednesday, but very busy.  May be better to go to the Alucdia market on a Tuesday and Sunday as it is easier and not so busy and spaced out.

Drove to Caves of Drach on east coast.  Worth seeing but not impressed with customer service, no guides to tell you a bit about them but men placed at strategic points along the pathways who shouted at anyone who dared to take a photo, almost military style!!  When we came out they were selling photos of the caves which explained everything, wouldn't go again, not as nice a welcome we received in caves in North of Ibiza.

Definately would recommend Hotel Ciudad Blanca to anyone looking for a family holiday, all inclusive, Alcudia very much geared to families not young singles.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Our First Visit to Alcudia and on the whole it was very good.

THE RESORT/AREA:

The resort caters well for children but many restaurants do not have straps for the high chairs, even if you can get a high chair, so take some straps with you if you have a lively 1 year old.

The children are well catered for in the restaurants but the food got a bit "similar" after about 10 days, so we went all inclusive in the hotel.

There is a taxi/horse carriage rank outside the hotel, so we explored the resort; plenty to do but the "old town" is very good. Good restaurants and good food. Well worth a visit.

The water park nearby is OK, not as good as the one down near Palma, we were told. The crazy golf was unfortunately a big letdown; if this is your thing (Our 4 year loves it)

The beach is excellent, with good shallow water but the large amount of seaweed was a put off for our 4 year old.

THE HOTEL:

We were not sure when we booked this hotel because of some of the comments in previous reviews but I'm glad to say we were not disappointed. The hotel was excellent.

The position could not have been better, right on the beach!

The staff were all very friendly to the kids and we met some nice people around the pool, there was a slight language barrier, as we were one of only a few families from the UK but we got by, most Europeans speak good English and we learnt some German and Scandinavian.

The rooms were functional; they had most items, for self catering, although the kettle took a long time on the electric stove, hire an electric kettle!

We went all inclusive after 10 days as we were bored of the resort food. There was no problem with this, but once you decide to do this you have to pay for the remainder of your holiday, you can't do one day on and two off for example, so try outside first and then go all inclusive. This worked out much cheaper than booking through Thomas Cook.

The food was excellent, a good range for us and the kids. Well prepared and labelled well (You need this sometimes)

During the day drinks were included, along with ice creams for the kids, well worth it as ten ice creams at 2 euros add up.

We went to the kids club with the children a few times, there is a nice playground and the club entertainers, were excellent. Again our 4 year old struggled a bit with language, as most of the initial instructions were in German but they did get round to English, by this time however the other children were already doing the activity. He was OK but some times it was difficult.

We would definitely go to an Iberostar again; generally excellent but will try another resort next year.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

The hotel is excellent.  The staff are friendly, nothing is too much trouble.  The rooms/facilities are spotlessly clean, the pool is great for small children, with a separate pool for more serious swimmers!  Location is great right on the beach.  Would recommend asking for a room in one of the smaller blocks, we were in the main block and it was a bit noisy with people coming and going late evening/early morning.

We would definitely go back to an Iberostar hotel, but not to Alcudia.

There may be a struggle for sun beds in peak season.

The resort is based around very busy main roads and is quite commercial, can imagine it being very loud in peak season!

We struggled to find good eating places early in the week.  We tried Portofino restaurant on night, it was awful.  My well done steak was rare, I had to send it back twice before it was cooked.  No apology, very poor service.  We walked passed a few nights later and a lady was complaining to her husband about the blood dripping from her steak!  Tivoli Terrace is worth a visit, opposite the entrace to the Bellevue complex.

There`s a very good childrens playground at the Bellevue complex.

We were very lucky with the weather, would probably not go the first week in May again.  There had been thunderstorms the week before.

We did not go to the port, but believe there are some nice, but expensive restaurants there.

Hotel Ciudad Blanca - Alcudia

Operator and Date: (Thomas Cook Direct) Thomas Cook - October Half-Term 2005

Opinion submitted in Nov 2005 by : Paul H (46, 45, 9, 5)

Resort Rating: Excellent

Accommodation Rating: Poor

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

This was our first holiday to Mallorca and overall we did have a great holiday (despite any comments below, which may suggest otherwise).

We purposely chose Alcudia because we didn't want to be anywhere near any lager-lout or 18-30 types.  We were not disappointed.  Thankfully, the Alcudia area doesn't appeal to those types.

THE RESORT/AREA:
Alcudia beach is great for young kids because it is lovely clear water and the beach slopes VERY gently out for a long distance.  I felt totally safe with my five year old.

The beach is beautiful white sand and is great for children of all ages to make sand castles and dig holes!  The only drawback being that smokers leave their cigarette ends absolutely all over the beach for the small children of other people to find and play with.  So kind!

When not in/around your hotel, there are plenty of really beautiful places in the area to visit that are a world away from this.

For example, the old town of Alcudia is really beautiful and locals greatly outnumber tourists (which is nice).

Pollenca is another fabulous place to visit and if you can make it up the famous 365 steps, then the view from the top REALLY is worth all the effort.  Even my 5-year-old made it up there with only a bit of help and he was well chuffed with the view.

Puerto Pollenca is a prettier place than Alcudia with a bit of beach for the kids - but is more tasteful.  This is no Blackpool.  You won't find pie-n-pint establishments here (thank goodness).  No discos for miles and miles.

THE WEATHER:
One or two days of heavy cloud - but nice and warm all the same.  One day of strong thunderstorms and very heavy rain - but still quite warm.  Four+ days of very nice warm clear sunshine.  However, all the locals advised me that October half-term week is definitely NOT usually a warm time of year and that we were very lucky.  Be warned!

THE HOTEL:
The location of the hotel really IS virtually right on the beach.  No road to cross to get to the beach and it is nice and flat from hotel to beach.  There is a nice continuous windbreak of tall (but not too tall) trees between beach and hotel - which adds to the privacy of the hotel and makes the area around the hotel pool into a wind free area. The trees aren't tall enough to get in the way of the sun though!

Hotel rooms are very clean and plenty big enough.  Cleaned each day and beds stripped once in the week.

Self catering equipment was minimal.  Two electric rings only.  No grill or toaster or microwave available.  We even had to make a request for a tin opener.

Hotel restaurant meals were fine though; so we paid for those once or twice (a fixed price of 15 euros per person for dinner or lunch).  Half price for children.  So it was 45 euros for two adults plus two young children.  Drinks are quite expensive in the hotel (as with most hotels).  Good choice of food is available but it is the exact same choice every night.  Only a very small percentage of guests appeared to use the hotel's restaurant.  So, I kept wondering whether the food was merely being warmed up from the day(s) before.

Most of the kids' 'facilities' at the hotel had already closed before we arrived.  Others were closed whilst we were there.

On the Iberostar's hotel website, there were photos of a lovely outside bar right adjoining the beach; where you and your family could have a nice cool drink under a 'straw' parasol.  NO chance!  The staff spent all of Monday and Tuesday (noisily) power washing all the chairs and the floor area around them - needless to say, that bar never opened all week.

There was an outdoor stage and entertainment area but this was already closed; despite temperatures all week of 70 degrees Fahrenheit or more - and plenty of paying guests.

So, basically, we paid thomas cook a premium price (half term is VERY expensive) for a poor standard of holiday.

It didn't really matter though, because THIS HOTEL CATERS MAINLY FOR GERMAN GUESTS.

I will repeat that because it is important - THIS HOTEL CATERS MAINLY FOR GERMAN GUESTS.

The reception staff are mostly German and gave much (blatant) preferential treatment to German guests.

We were the only family on the transfer coach that got off at this hotel.  I should have twigged then!

The tannoy came on around the pool each afternoon for a game of Bingo and a quiz.  Or at least, I think that's what it was - since I couldn't understand a word of it (wasn't in English).

The only entertainment of any description at all for the kids was the nightly kids disco.  My kids usually/always love these and so we happily went along.  However, all was totally in German though.  It sounded like we had landed in a WW2 concentration camp - completely surrounded by hundreds of Germanic speakers and even the lady on stage speaking only in German too (with occasional lapses into Spanish too to be fair).  Don't get me wrong, I don't want all (English) 'beer and chips' when I go to Spain - but when I go to Spain, I expect to have to learn a bit of Spanish to get by - NOT Deutsch.

We would have given anything just to have heard one British voice once during our stay at the hotel.

So, with NO [advertised in the brochure] 'activities' at all, we went to our room to watch television - BUT - not one single British channel is available.  Almost all channels are in Deutsch.  The odd one was in Spanish and there was one English-speaking channel available - American CNN news channel.  This channel just repeats the same news story every 15 minutes or so.  Whilst we were there, it just repeated the same one or two major news stories all day, all week - highly entertaining [Not].

If you like a nice clean hotel which is next to the beach and has a pool of its own too, then this might be ideal for you.  If you have children though, and if you are not fluent in Deutsch/German, then you are going to have a very lonely and isolated holiday (though maybe that's what you want).  By the way, we were told that ALL Iberostar hotels are the same - good quality, but catering very much for German guests only/mainly.

FURTHER:
Not only was the hotel closing down around our ears for the end of season, but also the whole resort of Alcudia was too.  As we found out, the whole resort closes firmly shut at the end of October and turns into a ghost town.  The hotel staff are out of work for four months so hardly surprising they were not very hospitable, I suppose.  But when you've paid your 1500 quid of hard-earned, you do expect something in return, surely?

I had made a note from this website's previous reviewers, about where to eat out.  So, we went to the Peach Pit on Monday only to be told that it was the workers' last night and that it wasn't at all suitable for children to be on the premises (i.e. it was the staff end-of-year p*ss up!).

Plenty of places still open (just) but many were shutting down or were already shut.

So, unless you can get a cheap deal, don't go to Mallorca at October half-tem - coz its half-shut and the half that's still open is busily shutting down while you watch.

Only the mosquitoes were keeping busy right up until the end it seemed.  I was lucky and despite seeing a couple of the blighters on me, they chose not to bite me at all.  They seem to pick on certain people for some reason.  My wife managed to acquire a couple of bites whilst asleep in bed - so after that we used of various 'jungle formula' products (e.g. 24 hour room fumigator and a body spray) and no more problems.  Several people seen at the beach had obviously been quite badly bitten - (these often seemed to be very large/obese ladies - though I have no idea why).

EVEN FURTHER:
If you go to Alcudia, there are plenty of full-English-breakfast and pie-n-pint type restaurants/cafes if that is your thing.  But also, plenty of more up-market eateries too - particularly in Puerto de Alcudia (a 5 or 10 minute stroll along the beach!).  Plenty of choice for all tastes.

BTW, we had a very good (and very nosey) look into the Delfin Verdi Marina hotel whilst in Alcudia.  This is a 3 star hotel operated by JMC and is almost exclusively British clientele.  It's a nice big place and there is entertainment on every evening - right up until the end of October (unlike our hotel).  If you're used to 4 stars then you will have to 'slum it' a bit (or perhaps consider elsewhere!).  The clientele looked as though they would be well at home having a good night out at a typical working-men's club.  On the other hand, if you're a coronation-street-type family that likes a game of bingo and a good laugh etc, then this really would be ideal for you.  You takes your pick - its 'horses for courses' and this hotel does cater really well for its target audience.  Much for kids of all ages to do here, we noticed.  More smiles were seen here than amongst the poker-faced (stuck-up?) Germans at our hotel.  Our own kids would have MUUUCH preferred this place to where we were.  And it would have only been a 5 minute maximum flat/level walk to the excellent aforementioned beach.

We also made a visit to the 4-star First Choice Holiday Village at C'an Picafort.  This was a very clean and lovely place with plenty of space.  The hotel also left it until the very last day (Saturday) before it closed all of its facilities.  However, I guess that it is probably a good bit more than a 5 minute walk to a beach from this place and it is a 15 Euro taxi ride from Alcudia, though there are shops and small supermarkets in C'an Picafort itself.  Personally, having looked around the place, at the high standard of décor and cleanliness and chatted to staying guests, this hotel is now on my own list of possible places to stay in future - though it isn't cheap, unfortunately.

Excellent hotel with excellent staff.Right on the beach as the brochure said. Rooms very good but rarely used. Guests of mixed nationalities with about 50% German. No loutish behaviour and conduct around the pool and hotel very civilised. Entertainment very good albeit in about four languages. Food excellent and plenty of choice. Alcudia not my cup of tea but a perfect holiday and would recommend to anyone wanting a holiday without "football shirts".

Would definitely return.

the ciadad blanca was absolutely appaling, the rooms were very basic indeed and very dirty.

The food was always cold and the cooked meat was dripping with blood and the choice was very limited. The hotel was predominantly occupied by german nationals and nine days into our holiday we were unable secure a sunlounger. Whenever we complained to the hotel reception they simply shrugged their shoulders.Even the thomas cook reps. who were only youngsters could not get any satisfaction from the hotel management on two occasions the rep. was in tears.

The hotel pool itself was always covered in dead insects and debris which was constantly getting into my grandsons mouth as he swam. We were on the fourth floor and the lifts were constantly breaking down which meant we had to climb eight flights of stairs.

The nightly entertainment was geared around children and nothing for adults it can only be described as rubbish! we were all inclusive but because the food was so bad we had to eat out.alcudia itself can only be described as skegness with sunshine only much dirtier! unless you have german origins i would give this resort and this hotel a miss

Thought i would put a review on here as there are non for 2005 on this hotel!
We stayed for a week at the cuidad blanca which definately had 4* standads all around the hotel. Our room was a 1bed apartment, it was spacious, clean, and had everything we needed. The airconditioning worked really well in both the lounge and the bedroom. The block of rooms we stayed in were block 3 and they by far had the best views, both of the sea and the smaller swiming pool. The grounds around the hotel were also well kept and spotless. We were self catering and would recomend the beach cafe for breakfast, great value for money! We ate out every night, all the restaurants were in walking distance as were the bars. If you havent booked all inclusive there is an option on arrival where you can pay per day, this works out cheaper than in the brochure.

The beach was great for sunbathing and swimming, there was also a sea bus which stopped near to the hotel which takes you to the harbour.

The only downside was the usual towl on sunbed problem which you will experience at most hotels, so therefore one person (whoever got up 1st!) would nip down and claim ours!
This holiday was great and would deffinately go back to the resort of alcudia and this hotel, all ages would enjoy it there.

Alcudia was great for nightlife with various different Pubs such as the 'Flying Scotsman' and 'Molly Ryans' which had fab entertainment.

Lovely hotel.  Staff very welcoming and helpful.  Rooms excellent.   Our room was on the 4th floor with a pool view and a sea view.  Brilliant.  Maid service daily.  We were self catering, and there was plenty of good crockery and it all matched!!!!.  We ate out every night and can highly recommend Tivolis (opposite Bellevue).  We ate there several times during our two weeks.  Service very quick and great food.  Another good restaurant for a cheapie is The Peach Pit for their set menu (around 9 euros).

The hotel restaurant is excellent.  We only ate there once.  It is 17 euros per adult and 9 euros per child.  The staff allow you to have a look at what is on offer before you decide, which we found helpful.  All the food looked delicious and fresh, and not swimming in oil like at most places we have seen.

Ciudad Blanca hotel swimming pools are wonderful.  Plenty of terrace area for the all important early morning rise to secure the sunbeds!  There is a small bar at the pool area, and a pizzeria selling beer and snack food til 5pm.  The pizzeria is right on the boundary of the hotel gardens and is very close to the beach, so you can take in the view whilst having a spot of lunch.  The beach is literally two steps away from the hotel gardens.  The charge for two sunbeds under straw parasol is 6.4 euros per day.

Entertainment at night was nothing much to write home about.  As far as we could tell, it was mostly done by the staff, who worked very hard to entertain, but the hotel could really have done with paying for some good acts.

The hotel gives a good exchange rate for travellers cheques.  We hired beach towels at 10 euros per towel, towels handed in for changing whenever you wanted just about, and then you got your ten euros back when you checked out.  Saves having to dry your own towels over the balcony.

In summary, would definitely go again.  Superb hotel, lovely staff, lovely setting.

We had an absolutely brilliant holiday here.  The staff were helpful and friendly.  The entertainment provided for the kids was good and the kids club staff were great with them.  They also provided most of the entertainment at night which was quite funny and the kids loved it sitting right at the front of the stage after their disco was over.  They also got the kids involved in one show a week  and gave them medals and certificates which was a really nice touch.

The hotel was in a great location and was very clean with really nice well kept gardens and a fab pool which was safe we never used the other one having young children.  We ate in the hotel restaurant a couple of times and the staff were attentive and there was a good choice of food.  I believe the hotel has gone all inclusive for next year but that wouldn't put us off going back as we spent most of our time there and the food was nice enough that you wouldn't mind eating it every night anyway.  The hotel supermarket is more expensive than Sigfrido's just along the road.  Ola's was a nice place to eat the kids got a menu which they could colour in and they got their food first which was a bonus.

Wouldn't hesitate recommending this hotel.

We have just had a superb 2 week break in the lovely resort of Alcudia,to which we have to say we are a bit biased as we have been 4 times NOW!

The whole resort is perfect for families and the beach is safe as the sand shelves very gently into the sea.The one place i would avoid is the tropical golf place opposite the Belleview, the buffet style food looked awful!!
The local restaurants are well priced and the Tivoli is well recommended.

The staff at the Ciudad were friendly and very helpful, the hotel was excellent, very clean and the one time that we used the restaurant we found it well presented and very good. There is a lot of Germans in the hotel and very few English. The entertainment staff are good and constantly come round to prise you off the sunbeds for rifle, pistol shooting, archery, and other poolside activities.

The maids change the towels daily and make the beds, linen is changed every 3 days. The hotel location is perfect as it sits directly on the beach front, and although the main road is right outside at the front of the hotel you are not disturbed by the traffic in the main building which we stayed in because all the rooms face the sea and pool. The layout of the pools are good, the main pool is shallow, and the second slightly deeper, with the two over seen by one lifeguard,an unusual site in Spain.

All together a superb place to holiday and get away from it all.Congratulations to the Iberostar chain who run the Ciudad,we will be back.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Fantasic holiday, rooms very very spacious and clean. We stayed in block 2 on the ground floor(slight noise because we were close to the lifts),lovely view of gardens from balcony. Air conditioning worked.
Pools were excellent, kids played in both of them, pool area was never over crowded and there was no rush for sunbeds. The beach is right on the door step. This was great as we used to go to cool down in the sea which is clean and not deep.

Entertaintment was the usual theme with the reps singing, dancing and some profesional acts. The reps were all from different countries but all spoke very good English.Kids and adults all joined in with the reps games and entertainment. The kids loved them especially Christian and Stina.

We ate out every night and went to different places(try Bugs Bunnys very friendly, good, clean and value for money.

Location is very good you can walk to the port along the beach which takes about 20mins. Not far from the water park which the kids loved. Lots of bars, restaurants(serving all kinds of cuisine)and shops.

We went to visit the other Iberostar hotels and apartments which were all of a very high standard as well but we think we picked the best one especially for location as the others seem a bit isolated.

All in all this is the best holiday we have had. We loved it that much that we have been to the travel agents to book again but were told that there is no self catering available only all inclusive left. We are all dissapointed as we have been spoilt and finding it hard to find some were else with the standards we have just had. Could not find fault with anything. If you want either a relaxing holiday or want to join in activities this is a good place to come.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

we have just came back form alcudias club mac hotels we stayed in the mac marte 28th july to 11th august 2007.
the holiday was fab we were worried because we had read a few bad reviews before hand but we were supprised the place (if you have children) was great we took our daughter 12 years old and our friends came with there 6 year old they loved it. the hotel was very clean the food was very good and the snacks in between meal times were on just about all day long for an all inclusive holiday you will not go hungry  and the fact that you can use the sister hotels also made things even better.

only two downsides but only small were that if someones child had a toilet accident in one of the pools they closed that pool for 24 hours but it doesnt get you down because you have another 7 pools to choose from, also the night time entertainment was not up to much.

you must book a trip to magaluf to see the pirates show it is fantastic its the second time we have been and will go and see it again it cost £162 euros for two adults and one child but worth it, it includes food and drinks ie wine red and white, sangria, pop for the kids. you can purchase beer a jug for £6 euros.
there is a market in alcudia town on a sunday great for knick knacks and a change, a day out only about £5-6 euros in a taxi.we had a good holiday all round alcudia is lovely five times we have been to different hotels but the club mac were the best so far. one more thing if you want a sunbed in a good spot by the pool you will have to get up really early there were towels on beds buy about 7am so good luck but enjoy.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

WARNING..! You will definately put on weight if you go to this hotel...!!! The choice of food was amazing. Having read some of the reviews I was a little dubious(?) as I am vegetarian and my husband is 'Mr Fussy' with food, especially abroad - he ate in the restaurant 5 nights out of 7..!! I could not for the life of me see how anyone could complain about the food, there was just an abundance of it all day long and all over the huge complex there were outlets serving things like chips, burgers, chicken nuggets etc.

This hotel is definately geared up for families and kids. There was so much going on and my five year old was THRILLED that he could just go up to any bar in the complex and help himself to coca-cola and ice-cream! Only complaint I had (very small one!) I was glad we were on a low floor as the lifts (in the Marte - middle hotel) were really unreliable and unpredictable(?). I suspect that most of the time it was kids messing around.

Also, for the first 3 mornings we couldn't get a sunbed and I didn't agree with the idea of getting up at dawn to put your towels out, but alas, when in Rome, I eventually succumbed to the dawn rises and got a sunbed everyday after that! There is a small childrens pool down by the childrens play area that is a lot quieter as it is a little walk away from the hotel itself and so  you may find that a little more peaceful if you do want some peace. All the people who complained about getting wet by the pool and all the inflabables - YES - it's a pool with kids, don't sit at the poolside if you want to stay dry! Quite noisy sometimes at night along the corridors as the hotel soundproof wasn't the best, but we were so tired each night that we rarely heard it and our 5yr old was out for the count the minute his head hit the pillow!

Another drawback is the location, it is about a 20 min walk into Alcudia, or the free courtesy bus, but it does fill up quickly so expect a queue. One restaurant to avoid (in our opinion) in Alcudia itself was the London pub. My husband ordered a steak well-done and he had to send it back 3 times! I know he is fussy but the thing was still 'mooing' when it came! The restaurant next door - Portofino - (or something) a proper restaurant, not a pub-come-bar-thing, was the best meal of the week.

You will enjoy this hotel, but don't go if you want rest and relaxation - be prepared to let your hair down and join in the entertainment at night times (usually down at the circus stage,) lots for the kids and if you can sit back and have a drink and just let them get on with it, you will love this hotel. xxxxxx

As per the holiday report before mine, we had an excellent holiday ,when we arrived the reception staff were lovely we were checked in within 5 mins and given our room cards, our room was lovely and clean although it was a bit cramped because we had a cot in it, but it was manageable!

the maids came and cleaned everyday and fresh towels were left, beds made properly etc. im a really fussy eater so this is the first time i have ever been all inclusive, i imagined it to be cold food and little choice but i was really impressed, there was a massive selection with show cooking everyday, everyday there was something different, they even have a seperate corner for children which was brilliant for my toddler. If you wasnt hungry at meal times in the restarants there were sandwiches on offer in all the bars and the mac buger did bugers, chips, wedges ,chicken nuggets  etc from 12PM Till 12 am which was brilliant. there were loads of bars and they served pesi and 7up and san miguel beer, they also did all you spirits and these were available from 10am daily till 12 midnight. They also had slushes, ice creams and ice lollies and you could have as much and as often as you like.

there was constant entertainment, and the bingo and night was brill the house was over 1000 euros every nite. the entertainment was really good the shows were really entertaining. my son loved it, there were loads of pools and we didnt have any trouble getting a lounger. Theres a childrens area at the back of the complex with a park a swimming pool which is knee high and a little fair with bouny castles etc (although you do have to pay on the fair) i will honestly reccomend this hotel to anyone with children espcially if they are children that constantly want want want as everything is free. They also have stalls in the grounds at night that sell toys jewelry, hair braiding and characatures etc. Well worth the money

i would just like to say i was regretting booking up this hotel after i read some of the reviews about this hotel,
but the thing is you have to go to find out and a holiday is what you make it at the end of the day.

hotel was brilliant staff where so helpfull and the food was excellent i cannot believe that people complained about it as far as i am concerned they are either fussy eaters of they are you just to stuck up.
and while i was there people complained about drinking out of plastic cups whats the big deal of moaning about that the way i see it is you have loads of kids running around you have one of them drop a glass and fall on it people aint going to be to happy about having to take them to hospital.
the only thing i was cheesed off about was with it being all inclusive i thought that the pedal boats and other things would be free but you had to pay for them,
the beach is excellent and clean if you dont mind a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel or they have a coach on from the hotel which is free and takes 5 minutes or so.

beware of palma airport if you have never been before it is massive the biggest i have been to takes you 20 minutes to walk to collect your bags when getting off the plane and watch your luggage dont go over the ammount stated on your tickets or you will have a big ammount like us to pay for every kilo over it is 9 euros.
bit of advice about a exchange place across from the tabac shop in alcudia dont go to change money up as she tried to rip me off of 40 euros just to change £200 i went to the bank in the end up the street from there commision free and you got a better rate too.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Just arrived back from Club Marte. Was worried after reading reviews.
We booked the Marte but on arrival were put in Saturno. Probably the quietest of the three hotels. Although we did experience a terrifying night when a couple had a big domestic and loud bangs and abusive language could be heard most of the night with nobody calling the police. By the way our phone in the room did't work and no signals on any of our mobiles.Rooms were small but very clean. We were on the 7th floor it was very high and it went up to 10 floors.
No chairs on the balcony but that suited me as it was too high to sit out anyway.
Small problem the lifts kept breaking down.Staff friendly and helpfull.
Food was amazing, I always go all inclusive and this was one of the best, you can eat in any three of the hotels.Eat all day long if you like.
Drinks are good though I didn't get drunk. Ice-cream served at the bar all day long.
No need to get up to reserve a bed as there are plenty, although the beds are flat and don't raise for your head. It was very busy and is very much like Butlins lots of children but we sat back from the pools and had no problems with there being so many little ones.
Entertainment was poor and not much of it in the evenings.
Good news I always get millions of mossi bites I only got one here.
Free bus to the beach was excellent, a very nice coach. Beach was beautiful and had to pay 10 euros for 3 beds and and umbrella.Went to the local market on Sunday 5 euros in a taxi. Not a great market but was ok and cheap. Had a horse and carriage back cost 25euros but good fun and well worth it. Go to BelleVue to shop it is great lots of shops and a nice walk in the evening, ask rep for a map to get there.Don't buy bags from the shop on site as I did and it was broken when I got home. Cigarettes cheaper in the resort than in airport 29euros.

have just got back from our holiday and glad to be home , i was worried about my holiday because of the bad reviews but now i am one of those people who was sorely dissapointed.

the hotel itself was beautiful and clean and the staff always very helpful however , we were dissapointed with the food which was quite repetative and very salty. my main concern was the health and safety issues i had with the complex. with there being 3 hotels on the complex meant that there was an awful lot of guests and my fear was losing my youngest children amongst so many people, also i didnt think there was sufficient lifeguards for so many pools.the floors were also very slippery when wet as i soon found out, i was coming from the ladies toilets when i slipped and badley grazed and bruised my knee and put my back out at the same time, this was always a worry to me as i often comented on how slippery the floors were. many of the seven lifts were constantly out of order and we had to wait an awful long time for the remaining working lifts and as we were on the top floor was very difficult to use the stairs all the time with small children. in my opinion the childrens and adults entertainment could have been better.

the resort itself was lovely but not as much there as i expected. summing up my 2 weeks , my son had sickness and dihorrea , then my daughter got it , then i had my fall and on the last 4 days my son spent it in hospital suffering from a stomach infection so i can safely say im glad to be home .

Just got back really liked alcudia   except the mosquitos really irratating but hey its what happens.Hotel well were do i start food lovely good choice every night and lots of it , drinks well there not exactlt half or full pints and its very cheap vodka beware taste like turps! Rooms pathetic size we had a cot so your cant move room cleaning service a joke didnt have clean towels  for 4 days till i eventually moaned .

Pool was ok but we went the beach as the pool was 2 cold for my baby and the sea is warmer he loved it at the beach. The entainment is a lot to be desired as there is nothing for the kids except a mini disco were you cant relax as your up and down with the kids and when other kids are being badly behaved mine tryed to join in and some parents just wanted the free drinks we spent most our time out of the hotel round the other bars in the resort as sitting in the jupiter bar was like being in a airport waiting room BORING with loads of screaming kids definitly would NOT go back Ever!!! it was a cheap last min hol and and well next time we will pay the extra and go 4 ao 5 star . If you like a butlins in the sun then it the place 2 be .

On a pos note alcudia lots to see and do beach lovely bars and restaurants good too especially the queens and weather brilliant .

Marte Complex

I went on this holiday after reading the poor reviews but went open minded.
I can honestly say that i have never wasted so much money on a holiday before.
The rooms were small and basic but always very clean, infact the whole "mac Marte" was impressivly clean.

However i was unimpressed about the lack of evening entertainment, During the whole 2 weeks of our stay we saw a few people on stage trying to sing, but on my accounts it was preety poor. I think that a complex as big as the Club Mac should have better evening entertainment, such as Hypnotists? comedians and maybe even the reps puttin on a show or 2, but nothing, entertainment that was provided was held over at the "circus" where many people avoided due to the huge amount of mosquitos.

Food was the repetative, not really alot for children, infact during our second week we ended up dining out in the towns restuarants. which really wasnt the idea of this holiday.Overall Alcudia is a quite place, if you are after more shops and bars head to Port d'Alcudia, this has a fantasic bay, with gorgeous restaurants, an evening funfair. Easy to get to by foot, cheap Taxi about £2.00 or more adventurous horse and cart, about £15.00.

Reps were aways available in hotel foyer if required.

Children where dissapointed in the so-called ice creams, A small yohurt sized pot of vanilla and chocolate or strawberry.
we spent a fortune on proper ice creams from the hotel shop.

Am really miffed we spent so much on all inclusive as the standards where so poor,
I have had far better holidays going self catering.
Definatly WONT be returning to Club Mac although i cant say that about Majorca. I love this Island.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

What a holiday that was.  I was a bit worried after reading some of the previous reports, but I am so glad that I booked this hotel.  We had a room in the Marte hotel.  The room was very spacious and we had a double bed each. (Fantastic)

The food was excellent, with a variety of choice everyday.  We didn't think much to the entertainment, as it was more for families.  This didn't effect us a great deal as we used the bars in the hotels up to a certain time and then hit the clubs.  You need to try Cheers bar.  This is a Karoke bar, which changes into a nightclub late on.  This is situated about 10 mins walk from the hotel and was the best bar we went to in Alcudia.  There is still plenty of nightlife, even in late season.

A thing I did notice about the people in the hotel is that I got the impression that as it was an All Inclusive hotel then people were making use of the facilities and stopping in the hotel all week.  You really need to get out of the hotel and have a look at Alcudia, as there is so much more to see.  I have been to Alcudia two years in a row now, and I couldn't believe how much there is to the resort.

Overall, I thought the holiday was the best yet and I plan to go back in the near future.

after reading a number of reviews on club mac we were all dreading this holiday but once we go there it wasnt that bad. Rooms were an okay size had no complains there we had a cot in the room for our youngest and there was still plenty space to move not as small as people are saying in there reviews. Cleaned everyday towels changed every 3 days but if you need clean towels they will give them without a moan.Food and drink, food was great plenty variety not once did i get a bad meal. drink was locally produced dont drink too much though gives you a really really bad hangover and sore stomach only complaint was there wasnt a good variety of juice only served fizzy high in sugar juice which our children are just coming down from all the sugar.

GREAT ENTERTAINMENT thoughout the day and into the night for children and adults loads of kids clubs big kids area in the complex as well.At night club mac turns into a mini village with stalls hairbraiding and henna tattoos they do perminant ones aswell which is well worth the money my husband got one, they take you to there studio in the morning and bring you back in the afternoon very clean and professional.

Alcudia is self is great lovely beach great pubs visit cheers family pub great for familys ,the flying scotsman goodfellas all great for familys and very reasonable.Only complaints i have about club mac are the lift in the saturno building very slow not always working had to lift buggy and baby down 5 flights of stairs on a number of occasions. Some parents letting there children and teenagers do what ever they liked not supervising them at all letting there young children bathe naked without a nappy which meant they pooed in the pool and had to be closed for 24hrs. some english tourist should be ashamed leaving litter reserving tables and chairs then having the cheek as soon as you leave your chair to ask if your still using it when your only going to the toilet.

On the whole great holiday lovely great pools ,people(some of them),food, nice rooms,alcudia100%,staff pleasant and helpful. We are going back to alcudia next year to try a different hotel back to club mac in a few years time

After reading reviews on here we were dreading the holiday but we had a good time.
We stayed in the Saturno on the 9th floor, the room was basic and cramped for 4 people and in need of some updating but it was cleaned regularly.  We found the entertainment a bit lacking but we still enjoyed ourselves.
The choice of food was really good and the staff were friendly.  We didnt have any problems with queues at the bar, and there was never more than 4 people waiting for a drink.  There were plenty of bar staff serving.
There is plenty for the kids to keep themselves occupied.
I would not recommend these hotels if you dont have kids though.

Overall it was definately value for money.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We arrived at the Mac complex at 05.30am, checked in at reception and ate freshly made sandwiches from the fridge and  hot tea and coffee from the machines.

On arrival at our room on the 3rd floor we were disappointed by the size, we were greeted by two double beds, and a balcony with two chairs, we were unable to unpack our suitcases, there was no room to put them anywhere.
We went down for breakfast at 8am and were greeted by happy smiling staff, loads of choice, good quality food, freshly cooked in front of you.

Next a trip to the pool, nice and clean loads of beds, loads of towels too (and no germans in site), as usual the selfish people reserved themselves several beds at stupid o clock and came down hours later to utilise them. By 10am the poolside at all the pools was choca block, the beds so close to one another we thought foreplay was in order. On our second day someone had a poo in the pool, so the pool was closed for exactly 24 hours, (nice and peaceful) when it reopened it was about 10 mins before someone was sick in the pool and it was closed again for 24 hours.
Lunchtime was a chilled and relaxed affair with plenty of space to eat. Same again with evening dinner, we ate around 8pm less busy. Lots of the diners could not read the NO BEACHWEAR signs or did not think it applied to them.

The facilities at this complex are fantastic, the shows superb, the hotel staff catering, cleaning and management deserve mentioning in despatches for the work they do.

The British people should be ashamed of themselves for the disgusting mess they leave everywhere, by the pool, by the bar, in the foyer, in the toilets, very few of the guests used the hundreds of bins available, and every evening as we left the pool there was rubbish dumped by the bathers, the bigger the family the more crap they left.Everything was cleaned and jet washed everyday and left spick and span by the cleaning staff.

There was loads for the children to do at all   times, our only complaint is that there was a lack of parental supervision, we caught 3, 9 year olds throwing chairs in the lake, and untying the kyaks. At night time parents tended to let there kids run wild, the older ones availing themselves of alcohol, more often then not supplied by the parents, that is the 13 _ 17 year olds, It is a massive complex more like a small village  with around 3,000 people and with that many people  and that much alcohol there is bound to be trouble and there was...... UNSUPERVISED UNRULY YOUTHS.

Last orders at the bar was like Harrods sale time, as were the midnight sandwiches, people grabbed far too many just because they were there.
If you like a very busy and noisy holiday, with loads to do and lots of people to meet, then this is for you.
We had good food, good facilities, happy smiling staff, good weather, SHAME ABOUT THE BRTISISH COULD NOT GIVE A DAMN ATTITUDE.

Well what can we say about club mac villas? Simple, if you havent booked dont go! If you have booked phone your travel company and ask have they been cleaned lately.

We arrived on sat 1st of this month for two weeks, opened the door and the smell nearly took your breath away! filthy couch and chairs, dirty cooker top and oven, glasses you wouldnt drink out of unless you wanted to die! Drawer front hanging off, filthy patio windows and floors not cleaned(dust hairs and crisps) To be honest upstars wasnt to bad(apart from dirty underware under bed! i aint joking) So off i trot with my now disgusted and upset family to find a rep, we booked the villa after being told by DEDICATED HOLIDAYS that villa was within the complex grounds,, not so! two main  roads to cross and 400yds later we get to jupiter, allas no reps on site, get phone number demand to be moved or flow home!!

everywhere full and the last plane just left, steam coming out my ears and my head about to burst open we had a family confrence, with the promise of a squad af cleaners (the next day) we decide to wait and see, cleaners arrived on monday, one of them, the rep and head house kepper came on sunday for a look! so cleaner came and moved dirt and grime around, my wife ended up doing what she missed, which was most of it.

All nine villas water went off for about five hours on saturday evening, apparently quite a regular thing, the guy that came to fix it told me. The pool water was tested twice in two weeks poolside not cleaned once. The villas are nice but one cleaner is sent to do all nine so its a quick change of beds sweep stairs and away.

The club mac complex very very busy but very helpfull smiling staff, lots for kids to do but a lot of things still have to be paid for! My advice, if you want a mad busy complex, go book into the complex, if you want a high standard villa to stay in dont go because they dont have any at club mac, and all the other eight villa familys i am sure would agree with me, as we all had various problems from dirt, no water and patio doors that had broken locks(not our villa) that werent repaired for full guests stay!! Dedicated holidays realy need to sort the very low standard of cleanliness of villas and make sure that people are not missled that villas are within complex grounds!

Hey but if you go it may all be sorted out by now, if so you will have a nice holiday (I hope).

We had never really been bothered with package, all inclusive holidays before but with 4 kids getting bigger, hungrier and more bored with our choice of holiday, we decided that an all inclusive package holiday was worth a try. Although we wanted the benefits of all inc. we didn't want to be part of a herd within a complex so when we found the Club Mac Villas with a pool serving just the 9 individual villas, we decided to take the plunge. The price was a reasonable £2200 for the 6 of us, not too bad although we were outside the legitimate school holiday period.

On arrival at Palma airport, the 'Dedicated Holidays' rep put us on the wrong coach, could have been problematic but the coach was travelling to the Club mac resort just a short stroll away so no trauma as we were dropped off en-route. The villa appeared partially equipped for self catering so we had various utensils etc we thought we wouldn't need, but they did come in handy. The villa was a bit grubby in places and the lounge furnishings had seen better days but each room had an air-con unit, big bonus.

The pool was quite small, would have been impossible if everyone had wanted to use it at the same time but that didn't happen so  we were ok.The 'Dedicated Hols' rep held a welcome meeting during the first morning and recommended some excursions, telling us that the tickets were cheaper from him than at the gates, especially the local water park, which was a lie as they were exactly the same price. No loss of money but annoying to be told a blatent lie. The other trip recommended was a snorkling trip. Quite expensive but a nice time. However, what the rep failed to tell us was that for less money, we could have had a snorkling, lunch and shore visit trip. Makes one wonder if commision was received!

The Club Mac resort was well staffed and well equipped but all inclusive is a bit of an elaborate descrition in my book. Virtually all the activites were charged for and they were more expensive than the other locations around Alcudia. The 9(!)pools were clean with plenty of sun loungers available and staff always in attendance. In fact, the one thing that I would say is that the staff were the most hard working bunch I have seen in a long while, they never seemed to stop and always had a smile. Some of the visitors treated the staff like dirt and seemed to make an effort to ignore or be down-right rude to the staff, especially the waiting staff. Hopefully they got the same in return. 100% for staff dedication to the Club Mac Staff.

Our Transfer home was disappointing. We had to carry 4 large suitcases, all our hand baggage and supervise 4 children between the villas and the resort. It was only a five minute walk usually but took twice that with luggage including crossing 3 roads. Having paid for a transfer, I was very annoyed at this treatment.

All in all, not a bad holiday, despite the Reps trying to spoil things. The Club Mac staff made up for it. We'll not be going again but if you want to try all inclusive, I would recommend the Club Mac Resort and Villas. Do take lots of spending money though!!

After reading the reviews on this site we were dreading this holiday. We couldn't have been more pleased. THIS IS A 3 STAR HOTEL FOR FAMILIES!!!The rooms are basic, but clean. The food is basic but edible and lots of it! I would NOT recommend this place if you don't have children.

In all a fantastic holiday. (Its what you make it!)If you want luxury and an a la carte menu go 5* otherwise this place is great.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

what can i say....after reading all the horror stories written on here i was absolutely dreading going, but boy am i glad i did.

we have just returned from one of the best 2 week holidays i have ever had. we enjoyed it so much we have booked to go back again next year, and i am really looking forward to it already.  i was told that there was broken glass all around the pool area i'd love to know how that got there considering all the glasses were plastic around the complex exept for in the dining rooms and you couldn't bring them out of there.

the food was brill there is no way anyone could starve there is always something on to suite everyones taste even the funny ones. the rooms were very basic, but they were very clean and lets face it your only sleeping in them and using them to wash so you don't really need luxury.the reps are fantastic i have a child with special needs and they were all excellent with her and even came to wave her off when we were leaving.the staff were all really friendly, there was just one that wouldn't smiled so we made that our challenge and before we left we had him laughing so it just goes to show if your ok with them then they return the compliment.

one complaint i had was ignorant holiday makers they give us all a bad name. no manners just asked for what they wanted no please no thankyou just get it type of attitude and i don't think there is any need. no wonder the staff seemed unpleasant to them i would have been if i worked there and was treated the way they were. these people work really hard to cater for everybody so a little grattitude wouldn't be too much to ask for i don't think.

well i think thats all i have to say for now we all had a great time. anyone that has already booked here and is worried after reading some of these reviews my advice is go and enjoy yourself i think you will be pleasantly surprised i know i was. this complex is very clean, the staff is very friendly and there is so much to do i would be very surprised if anyone can say they were bored here. i am so looking forward to going back next year.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

If it's long delays, sub-standard travel and poor accommodation that you're looking for, then Dedicated Holidays are the agents to travel with.

After suffering delays both ways (30 mins & 6 and half hours)without even been notified by our reps we travelled on a plane that made easyjet look like BA first class. Before we even arrived at the Club Mac alarm bells were sounding.

Once there we quickly found the place to be extremely busy (mostly younger children)- even though the school term had just started, so people looking for a relaxing holiday without kids would not like it there (heaven only knows what it's like in school holiday times).

We were given our room details and off we went upto the 4th floor to cell block H. The room had 2 tiny single beds squeezed into the below average room. The bathroom was not clean and the linen (although it did appear clean) had seen better days. We tried to ignore the room as we slowly unpacked and tried to put the whole terrible experience of just getting there behind us.

The next thing that struck me about the hotel was the food. As it was later in the evening when we had arrived, we were starving. We went over to the only diner serving food at that time to be served with cold food (that should have been hot) and warm food (that should have been cold). The flies were a real problem as well. The bread rolls had been left there for so long that it had gone hard all over. As I have just returned from an all inclusive in the Moon Palace in Mexico, the month before, I was expecting a similar set up with the restaurants, and so decided to leave the poorly cooked, fly infested food in this diner, in persuit of another restaurant on site. I had no such look and ended up spending 50 euros on my first night on an all inclusive holiday at the local bar drinking proper beer and eating warm nicely cooked food.

There did seem to be plenty of entertainment for the kids in the evening like outdoor movies, games and karaoke, amongst other things, but the next day was mayhem in the pool area. Beach balls and inflateables all over you, whether you wanted them or not and by the late morning I'd had enough of queing for hours for watered down beer, unfriendly staff and poor food so we went into the hotel Jupitor reception to request new accommodation. Luckily we got there first and were offered alternate accommodation in the Paraiso de Alcudia apartments about 20 minutes away on a bed and breakfast basis. Because we had lost the all inclusive aspect of the holiday we received compensation (180 euros) on the spot to cover the taxi rides to and from the hotel to the apartments... needless to say that we never went back to the Club Mac, we just spent the compensation on eating out in our new location.

What can I say about the apartments... Above average condition, superb location (beach front, shopping, supermarkets, boozers, restaurants etc, etc...)the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and it goes without saying that as the week progressed we bumped into more and more like-minded people from the Club Mac. One lady actually wept when she had been refused the apartments due to a then shortage of avaliable rooms.

We do not consider ourselves holiday snobs and our holiday in Mexico was in no way a bench mark for this holiday as we knew there would be great differences just based on the prices that we paid, however, I believe that you should never spend hard earnt money on going to accommodation anywhere in the world that is sub-standard to where you would be comfortable living on a day to day basis.

A few people that we had talked to on the way home had actually enjoyed their experiences at the Club Mac, but these were the people with 4 or 5 kids running around.

My advice to anyone looking for a relaxing break would be to look up the Paraiso de Alcudia apartments. 4 out of 5 for that one.

Not a brilliant place to go if you don't like children & being round a load of holiday makers that let their young teenage children drink alcohol , most of the young teenager's that we so hung aroung in gang's of at least 10 (how off putting is that). Whist we were their (3 days) the pool in the jupiter complex was closed due to someone been sick in the pool itself, also someone had deceided to place a no2 in the pool. The hotel complex itself had trebble over booked (exellent managementship!!!!). In the end i asked to be moved to a different hotel away from club mac complex ,i was moved with my family within 2 days to the hotel Paraiso right on the beech & it was fantastic, we also received E300 compensation in full up front.from then on we had a great holiday.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

After reading reviews on this website, we bagan to have second thoughts on whether our last minute deal was going to be a nightmare rather than a good holiday.

We stayed in the villas, which are only a short walk away from the main complex, but this was far enough to escape to if we needed to.The villa was huge for the four of us and was well airconditioned to a point where we had to turn it off as it got cold! The fact that the villas share a pool away from the main complex was great as we could relax.

The complex itself was huge, allowing space through the day without the feeling of being overcrowded. There were many activities at various times of the day for all ages to take part in so no excuse for being bored. The swan pedelos were free in the morning and you could spend as long as you want on them. We only waited 5-10 minutes for two which again isnt bad.

Breakfast offered something for everyone, including early risers (it statrs at 8) and those not so good at getting up (in the saturno it ends at 11:30) Full english brekkie, eggs however you want them, fruit, yoghurts, cold meats and cheese, bread rolls and crossiants to name a few things on offer. Snacks start at 10 so if you did miss breakfast you can grab something before lunchtime. Lunch is only served in one resturant but we never found it overcrowded. The food was good, with lots of variety, especially types of fish. Dinner was the same and we have no complaints about the food. If you cant find something you like then you must be really fussy as there is something for all. The marte is open for late night snacks if you are still hungry and again there is quite a bit of choice. The kids menu is good, and we often ate from it, as many other adults did.

Ice cream may be a bit of a walk from the actual hotels, but it is in a sensible place next to the kids activities and play area, so there is no need to complain. Fresh fruit was readilly avaliable at the fruit stall with watermelon, necterines, peaches, bananas, oranges and apples there to be taken.

Entertainment at night was good with a kids disco and bingo every night before the main show. However it is pretty hard to get a good seat outside at the jupiter unless you have dinner really early, but there are plenty more inside. The saturno was not as busy and the entertainment was just as good. Longest time we spent queing for drinks was about 5 minutes, which isnt that long and the staff did everything they could to speed things up. No alcohol was served to under 18's and those who could not prove their age were turned down. Drinks are not served in plastic all day as after 7:30 they are served in glasses.

All of the staff work non-stop and many are there working from when you get up until when you go to bed. They are all friendly and helpful, and do their best to ensure you have a good time.

The holiday was no where near as bad as we expected from the reviews however we feel that more than a week would be too much if you didnt like that sort of busy hotel environment and you could become bored  after a while. This was our first all inclusive holiday and it hasnt put us off so it couldnt have been that bad.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

this was a a last minute booking and althought the previous reviews are a bit mixed on the whole they are quite favorable.

PASSENGERS FROM GLASGOW FLIGHT FCA1686 that departs Glasgow at 00.30 on sunday mornings (return flight FCA1687 05.20 Sunday mornings) you will only be staying for 13 nights and not the 14 that you paid for.  We found this out when the cleaner came to strip our room on the sunday 5th August to tell us our room was to be cleared by 12.  After a meeting with the Hotel Manager and a call to First choice as the Rep didn't bother to show AGAIN! I was told that the room is reserved from the previous day therefore you are paying for a room that is impossible to accomodate because you don't arrive until Sunday Morning so be aware that you will be out of your room for 17 hours and 20 minutes until you flight departs (if it's on time!!!!).

The manager told us he was not helping us and we should take it up where we booked it I told him he was unhelpful and because we had complained he had taken this stance with us, he shrugged his shoulders at this.  I also asked if there was a courtesy room and he said no because they were full also be aware that when you leave your room there is no secure place to leave luggage, you will have to leave your bags at the open reception area which is at the front door and sometimes unmanned.  We were lucky to meet some great folks at the hotel who stored our bags for us and others who let us shower in there room so another tip would be to keep some towels from your room for this purpose.

Only by sheer chance I was sitting just near the reception when a couple were given a key by a receptionist and told that that was their half hour for the room it was only then that I discovered that there were 3 courtesy rooms set aside at half hour appointments for guests so it was quite clear the manager if you complain he will not help you.  On the Sunday we reckon the temperature outside neared 130 degrees so to have no facilities is appalling.

1. on arrival we were directed to room 801 on the 8th floor.  We were dissapointed with it's size being on the small size and the bathroom was very narrow but it was immaculate with the sheets being crisp white as were the towels.  our beds were changed at least 3/4 times during out fortnight.  Towels were replaced all the time despite a notice telling you that you should put towels in the bath if you want clean ones. Maybe it depends on the cleaner you have but ours was helpful and extremely thorough. The view from this room is stunning as you can see all the way from the port all the way round to c'an picafort and beyond.

2.  We discovered that when we ran the tap at the sink sometimes a putrid gas like smell would come through the air con system.  we complained to reception who sent a technician when we were out.  He left a calling card to say he had fixed the problem and if any more probs we were to report it again.  The smell continued and we reported it again. We have no idea if someone did call again as no calling card was left but it continued for the duration of our stay.  We then reported the matter to the Rep. to be told " that's just the smell of Alcudia"! we were also told the hotel was full and no other rooms were available.

2. there are some good points though.  The hotel is in a great location and you don't have far to walk to the fantastic beach or the shops, restaurants and bars.  The bus stop is neaby too and it's about a half hour walk to the old town.

3. We though the food was great even our 11 year old tried almost everything but my favorite thing was the night they had lasagne on.  It was fab.  There was something different every night but you should still go with the frame of mind that the food is not british but a variation of our food but very good it was too.  some nights there was a carvery too but every night was different and we were there for 2 weeks and never got the same thing twice apart from the deserts which were almost the same every night.  The food displayed on our first week seemed to be more of a choice than the second week but no-one would go hungry and if you don't try and like some of the stuff then you must be extremely hard to please. There were no upset tummies at all that we knew of.  Just some folks that decided from the outset that the food would not cross their lips and ate elsewhere.

4. the activities for kids were good.  Michael and Belen are great with them with different activities every day ranging from sports to arts and crafts the winners given certificates and anounced in the evening after the the mini disco which is on at 8.30 every night the kids are taught dances and then bingo from 9.30 with a professional show at 10. There were also adult sport activities every day the winners also announced and given certificates the thing we thought was great was that when there was an adult activiy on there was also something for the kids at the same time.  If there was one moan I have about this it would be this.  There are two little boys who live in an apartment that overlooks the pool (I don't know if they are related to one of the staff) however, they had use of the pool all day from opening till closing this itself was not a problem however they also took part in activites and sometimes won therefore quite often their names were read out to collect their certificate but of course as they were nothing to do with the hotel they never collected them  some of us felt that ok give them a certificate but the kid that was placed second and a guest of the hotel should have received the certificate.  you may feel that this is sour grapes but I felt it more appropriate.

5. The pool has a life guard from 10 until 6ish Isabelle the one with the braids in her hair was great with the kids we even observed her getting into the pool to teach a couple of kids to swim.  there was another girl when Isabelle had a day off but she just sat under cover of the bar area and did not appear too interested.

6. We didin't book any trips through the Rep.  Where possible we never do.  There is a tourist office along at the marina where you can get indipendent info of how to get to places yourself without the highly inflated prices of the tour companies.  I took my son to Inca Market for 8 euros return for both on the public bus but the prices from tour operators are between 6 and 16 euros each for the same thing!

7.  We didn't go to the pool during our fist week as there were no loungers available all reserved during the night.  i asked the rep why it the reserving before 8.30 policy wasn't enforced.  Her answer was unbelievably this: just take the towels off throw them in the pool, or dump them on the ground, or hand them to reception or to her as the rep! absolutely shocking as was her lack of people skills.  So because you can't beat them you have to join them and have your lounger booked by 7am ar earlier.  I observed 3 members of staff from the Alcudia Gardens Hotel just opposite who took it upon themselves one night (2am in the morning) to strip off and use the pool and then use the towels that people had put out already on loungers to dry all their bits and pieces quite thoroughly I might add!!!!

This was our first visit to Majorca and we really liked it we would love to go back and maybe try another resort.  I wouldn't be totally put off this hotel and would maybe even go back to it but I would prefer to try elswwhere in Majorca first.

If you are already booked to go to this hotel I wouldn't worry too much as this is just individual expriences most folk have no problems at all but always the down side seems to come to the forefront of our minds.  As I said don't worry at all, have a great holiday and make up your own mind.

Condes de Alcudia - Alcudia

Operator and Date: First Choice - July 2007

Opinion submitted in July 2007 by : Christine & Jamie (28,35)

Resort Rating: Very Good

Accommodation Rating: Good

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Have just returned from a week at the Condes de Alcudia and am glad to say it was nowhere as bad as I feared after reading some of the reviews on this and other holiday review sites.

1. The transfer took just over 90 minutes which was a pain but we arrived in time for evening meal (we were half board).
2. Our room overlooked the pool and beach and was big enough for me and my boyfriend with twin beds that were bigger than a single but not quite a double. Bathroom was good size with shower & bath and was nice & clean, as was the room. Due to air vents in the bathroom and thin walls though you probably will hear some of next door's conversation both in the bathroom and bedroom. We hired the safe (24 euros plus 10 euros deposit, dumped our suitcases and headed down to the dining room.

3. Food - this was definitely the low point for me as I'm quite a fussy eater and ate nothing but chips for three nights! My boyfriend found much more to eat but said that everything tasted the same (bland) no matter what it actually was. As a result we ate out for 4 of the 7 nights. Breakfast however was lovely with the usual choice of cereal, fruit, yoghurt, bacon eggs etc, although the toast machine is not the fastest and as far as I could see there's only the one!
4. As stated in most reviews there are just the two lifts that only hold 4 people each and even then if the total weight is too much then the lift won't go anywhere. We were on the 8th floor and occasionally walked down although I don't recall waiting more than 2 or 3 minutes for a lift, and that was only when we timed it wrong (eg when everyone was piling down to evening meal). In the peak summer holidays though it may be a pain if you're on a higher floor.

5. Pool - we didn't even attempt to get a lounger by the pool as when we woke about 8 every day the bulk of them had already been reserved, despite the notice in reception saying that this was not allowed.
6. Beach - we went to the beach every day as it's literally over the road from the hotel, and costs 7 euros for 2 loungers. The beach is stunning white (almose as white as the beach I saw in Dubai) & the water is lovely & clear, and is a lot warmer than some beaches! There didn't seem to be any public loos on the beach except for some next to a restaurant/bar as you get onto the beach, which are used by everyone (not sure if they are meant for customers only). They weren't the most pleasant so we generally strolled the 2 min walk back to the hotel and used the loos in the bar area which may be a pain if you have kids. If you are eating anywhere on the beach then obviously you can use the restaurant's loos.

7. The resort is a lot quieter than I expected and the port/marina is absolutely gorgeous. We never bothered with going to the busier end plus I think this would be at least a 15 min walk as we walked for about 10 mins for a nosy but didn't come across anything except a burger king and a disco. We headed to the marina every night for a few drinks, and for food on the nights we didn't eat in the hotel. We ate once at a bar called Chili but it was not nice. Tex Mex was ok just your average American diner type place and we ate at Bistro Mar twice. This is the first restaurant you come to as you walk down to the port and is absolutely the best food we had all holiday. For a starter two meals and a drink each it was 35 euros; it was gorgeous food and big portions. We also ate at a pizzeria place on the beach; the first time was delicious, the second was ok and the third was disgusting so that was a bit hit and miss. You also must walk right to the end of the marina where there is a bar/restaurant that overlooks the sea and is cheap (4 beers were 10euros). We didn't eat here but it was so nice to sit and look out to sea on a warm evening with a cold beer and we went there pretty much every night. We had mosquite plug ins and sprays and we didn't get bitten once. I also didn't see any pick pockets trying to sell you flowers, as stated in some reviews but I would say be aware just in case. The hotel is based in the middle of bars but the noise tends to die down at midnight (I wear ear plugs so had no problem).

I think I've covered everything, the hotel staff are friendly and were very helpful when my boyfriend left his bag on the coach the day we arrived. I did hear of some people who had small rooms and I also thought that my air con didn't work but I then realised that you have to turn the dial to under 25 degrees for it to come on!
